What a journey with PRK, and I don't regret it one bit. It's true what they say: PRK is a marathon, not a sprint. The staff were professional and made me feel welcome from the start. My first appointment was a consultation, during which they explained everything thoroughly, including what to expect before, during, and after the procedure. I appreciated how carefully they examined my eyes. Unfortunately, I had a small scar on my cornea, so I wasn't a candidate for LASIK. Dr. Faktorovich highly recommended PRK instead. On the day of the procedure, I was given oral Ativan to help ease my anxiety about the procedure, and honestly, the whole thing probably took less than 10 minutes. I spent the rest of the day napping and applying eye drops. I definitely recommend staying home and avoiding anything strenuous for the first few days. The procedure itself wasn't too bad, but the post-recovery was a struggle. Post-op days 1 & 2 were the toughest. My eyes were watery, EXTREMELY sensitive to light, and it was uncomfortable. Felt like sandpaper on my eyes. But don't worry, they prescribe pain medication to help manage the discomfort. The pain eventually went away by the 5th day, and I was no longer taking anything for pain. Keep in mind that PRK recovery is significantly different from LASIK. For the first few weeks, my vision was fuzzy, and I definitely didn't feel comfortable driving. I also developed an astigmatism, which made my night vision worse initially. I was told it was completely normal and would eventually go away once my corneas were healed. I had to keep reminding myself that with PRK, the vision improvement is gradual, there's no overnight change. The healing process takes time. With PRK, I had more follow-up visits with their optometrist and a longer duration for using eye drops. The first few months were all about allowing my corneas to heal. I think around the 1.5 to 2-month mark, I finally noticed a difference. By that time, I was comfortable driving at night. Now, I'm about six months post-op with 20/15 vision. I couldn't be happier with my results! I used to have a vision of -6.50 to -7.00 and was completely dependent on glasses and contacts. Now, I wake up and can see clearly and that is life-changing! To summarize my experience in 1 word: WHOA! But let me leave you to be the judge of that. By far, one of the best patient care I've ever received. Dr Faktorovich, Dr Garg and the entire staff here are great! I originally came in for a Lasik consultation and found that I wasn't a great candidate so I ended up getting PRK. Yes, more invasive yada yada yada. You hear of all these horror stories, so please stop googling the procedure and here's why... During your consultation you are provided more than enough information with true results from the horses mouth. I can not express the amount of gratitude for the information, statistics, and sources of truth for me to make an informed decision. It was a no brainer. Yes! Do the surgery. I'm about a month and a half out from my surgery and my vision is 20/15. Yup! Better than 20/20, I literally can see the future (I can't but you get the gist). I highly recommend taking a week off from work after the surgery. Yes the pain is intense, yes you don't want to open your eyes, but it's well worth it. By week 2-3 your vision starts to normalize and you finally realize you aren't squinting or relying on contacts or glasses. It's magical. Wow, from start to finish, this was a fantastic experience! It's a well-oiled, seamless outfit, it reflects they've been perfecting their game for years. This was my second opinion, I was nervous, apprehensive and honestly, just freaking full of trepidation. I have a very high rx., and was going in for a cataract surgery assessment. Anastasia, who has finessed manners and graces for miles, was welcoming and going through the general steps we'd be proceeding with. I loved this initial part because she laid out in a stepwise, super logical and systematic way, what to expect for that day and beyond. It went exactly the way she'd outlined. At some point, I saw another gentleman who did some measurement/digital mapping of sorts, which also went well, and Dr. Faktorovich I saw several times. I did consultations with about 10 laser eye professionals and ended up choosing Pacific vision institute for my laser eye surgery in 2018 Boy am I glad that I went with PVI. During my surgery, the doctor found that I had a rare eye condition that only affects less than one percent of the population (Epithelial basement membrane dystrophy) and was not able to be diagnosed prior to the incision being made. Fortunately, Dr Faktorovich knew exactly what needed to be done in the moment to complete my surgery successfully. Afterward, she calmly explained what had happened and set up a schedule to follow up the next day as well as a few days later. Over the next few months, I needed to continue going in for check ups. I explain to Dr Faktorovich that I was taking a trip abroad and would not be able to come in for an extended period of time. Upon hearing this, she set me up with a list of trusted eye doctors in every city that I was visiting during my trip (London, Hong Kong, Tokyo), telling me that my visits would be covered under my laser surgery package with PVI. After a year, I noticed that I was still having some trouble with bright lights at night. The team at Pacific vision Institute continue to see me with no hesitation, and continued to provide consultation and support throughout. Although they did explain that doing another surgery would be an option if I really wanted to, they explained that for my case due to my condition, healing may take longer from my initial surgery and urged me to continue seeing if they would be improvement with regular usage of medicated eyedrops. Sure enough, my low light vision did improve over time. While it still isn't perfect, I am happy with the results even 5 years later and still maintain 20/20 vision. I would not hesitate to recommend a Pacific vision Institute and Dr Faktorovich. The main drawback for most folks will be the cost. PVI was the most expensive clinic that I did a consult with. But if I could go back in time and make the decision again, I would still choose Dr Faktorovich and her team! I had my surgery a few months ago. And wow - I couldn't recommend Pacific Vision Institute enough. My vision is better than 20/20! I was worried that I would lose my 'best-corrected vision,' but I can see far better after LASIK than I ever could with contact lenses. (I had a slight astigmatism that my contacts never corrected for.) For what it's worth, my prescription was around -3.5 in both eyes. The last thing I'll say, is that Dr. Faktorovich is one of the most genuinely passionate, caring, reassuring, professional and expert doctors I have ever met, in any specialty. This is her life's work, and it shows. ps. Friendly reminder to use artificial tear eyedrops. This is by far the nicest eye doctor office I've visited and I'm an optometrist myself. Dr. Faktorovich is a refractive surgery specialist meaning she makes sure you can see 20/15 coming out of surgery. This means most of her patients have vision better than 20/20! Dr. Faktorovich has the most up to date medical devices to help confirm if you would be a good candidate for Lasik or PRK. She also does surgery called "cross-linking" for people with an eye condition called keratoconus. Staff is great! You are set up with a staff member (Anastasia or Liz) to explain to you different surgery options and what to expect before and after surgery. You have an optometrist go through a very detailed eye exam to confirm your prescription (Dr. Quan). You get imaged on a few imaging devices and then Dr. Faktorovich reviews the data and talks to you about the surgery she has selected to do with you. Overall 10/10 stars! 3/24/2021 Quarantine Day 373 This is THE place to go if you want the BEST lasik journey experience. I was referred here by my optometrist and I was pleasantly surprised to receive a call from them only a few days later. I scheduled a consultation with Marguerite in two weeks and they are really great at sending appointment reminders, which is helpful for me because I can forget things. Pacific Vision Institute is located near Fisherman's Wharf/Pier 39 area. Parking is expensive in the area, so be prepared to pay the meter. I was immediately impressed by the cleanliness of the facility and everyone is so nice! For my consultation, they did tests and scans of my eyes to first make sure my eyes were qualified for lasik surgery. Dr. Faktorovich took a look at the results and they told me that my eyes were perfect for lasik surgery. Marguerite went over the financials and brief pre-and post- op care and answered all my questions. After some thought I decided "yes, let's do it!" My surgery was scheduled for 3/24/2021. Up until the day of my surgery, I wore just glasses the entire time in preparation for the surgery. Dr. Chen was very professional in explaining to me how to prepare for the surgery and what was going to happen to my eyes during the surgery. Come surgery day, I was nervous and excited at the same time. Throughout the whole surgery, Dr. Faktorovich's calm demeanor put me at ease. The procedure overall was painless. In the beginning, I did feel like my eyes were being pushed into my brain, but other than a small hemorrhage on my left eye (which is almost all gone by now) it went well. I was ubered home, I took a short nap and BAM... I COULD SEE! I followed Dr. Chen's post-care instructions very carefully and 2 weeks out from my surgery, I can see better than before. At first it felt like I was wearing contacts for the first few days, but then I had to remind myself that I would never need contacts no glasses again. I recently came here for Lasik, and like most of the other reviewers on here, absolutely had a great experience being treated by Dr Faktorovich. I had -4.0 and -4.75 before and after I was able to see 20/10! Feel free to send me a message if theres any more questions I can help with or you want a referral :) [TIMELINE] From deciding to reach out and ask about Lasik, I could have been done with the procedure within 2 months. I usually wear day contacts, and some other lasik places I reached out to required me to be out of contacts for weeks before my operation and preop, but PVI only needed me out for a total of 1.5 weeks. My timeline was: 8/23 - Request for consultation 9/23 - Consultation 10/18 - Preop (Contacts out a week before) 10/26 - Original Operation (Contacts out 2 days before) - I cancelled this because of personal reasons and rescheduled for later [OPERATION] My operation was scheduled for 9:45am and I was done and able to go back at 10:45am. You first go to a regular room where they give you relaxants and put some drops into your eyes. You then wait for a bit for the medication to kick in, this is probably the longest part which took maybe 15 minutes. Then you go into the operating room to the first machine, and I believe what they're doing here is creating the flaps on your corneas. This one hurts for maybe a minute on both eyes, to me it mostly felt like someone was pushing really hard against my eye socket. Then they lead you out of the operating room to sit for a while. Your eyes are very blurry and my vision on my two eyes were different - this is normal. Then you go back to the operating room and stare at some lasers, which doesn't hurt at all. Then you're done! When you're done with all your operations, you can already see pretty well. Things are blurry and it feels a little like youre underwater, but you can generally already see pretty well. They also help you call an uber home if you need it! [POST OP] Immediately after, you take a nap for 4 hours and by the time you wake up your eyes are seeing pretty well and you're basically back to being fully functional (except with very dry eyes). You're put on a regimen of eye drop medication for a week. You're not allowed to sweat or get stuff in your eyes, use lotions/creams, or use make up for about a month. Its now been a week after surgery, and my eyes are still kind of dry (I use eye drops every 1-2 hours) but besides that everything is great! read more

After the annoyance of wearing glasses and contacts for years, I finally got up the courage to consider LASIK. After asking countless friends and acquaintances, all the recommendations let me to one clinic - Pacific Vision Institute. I went in for a consultation and was a good candidate. I am a risk-averse person and take my time in making decisions. However, research I'd done on line, the consultation of friends who had the procedure and the steadfast feeling that going through the consultation process at the Pacific Vision Institute and meeting Dr. Faktorovich herself allayed my fears. I was ready! On the day of the procedure, I was nervous. All of the staff were quite used to this and reassured me that I would be well taken care of, and I was. The procedure itself wasn't pleasant (very weird not to be able to close your eyes as bright lights shine into it), BUT, they were completely truthful about it - it didn't hurt and was over very quickly (and Dr. Faktorovich has a very soothing voice while she talks you through it). And though you are meant to rest your eyes for hours afterwards, you can immediately tell that you have perfect vision. It has now been a few months since I went through the LASIK procedure with Dr. Faktorovich and I am thankful every day for my decision to go to her (and for her excellent precision!) My vision is amazing (20/10) and I swing between constantly being amazed at my perfect eyesight and completely taking my new eyesight for granted (though sometimes I try to push my - non-existent - glasses up the bridge of my nose!). From the very first consultation, PVI made me feel welcomed and excited to be under their care. The office staff are warm and professional, always donning a smile while being attentive to your visit details. The office itself is beautiful, well-designed to create a relaxing environment. It is not your average doctor's office. During my consultation to determine if I was a candidate for LASIK or PRK, I was educated on the procedure itself and underwent ocular testing. Dr. Faktorovich reviewed my results and signed-off on me being an eligible candidate for LASIK. I was excited! I then met with Dr. Faktorovich where she reviewed my test results with me. I was impressed that there were so many different test results she went over with me, and it made me feel comfortable, her showing me why I qualify as a LASIK candidate. One thing to note is I felt at-ease continuing this process because I could feel the passion she has for LASIK, and Dr. Faktorovich conveyed her knowledge of LASIK to me. The biggest reason why I am recommending PVI is because Dr. Faktorovich was so candid. Ironically, I had no questions because she covered the gamut with no stones unturned. Writing this review has put a smile on my face because I genuinely had a lot of fun with PVI! But let's get to the good stuff: the LASIK procedure! PVI made sure I knew exactly how procedure day would go, and it went exactly as planned. I had no anxiety entering the procedure suite as PVI made sure I was comfortable. The procedure itself is really quick, and I 'm sure this is in-part due to Dr. Faktorovich's many years of experience! She's a LASIK veteran for sure! I felt no pain or discomfort during the procedure, and Dr. Faktorovich's calming voice as she talked through the procedure steps added to the relaxed environment. When the procedure was done, my vision felt like a movie dream-sequence, hazy but everything was visible! PVI arranged for transportation home for me to rest and recover, and by the late afternoon, I was at the gym, being very careful of course avoiding getting sweat in my eye as instructed! I know this has been a long review, but I honestly cannot say enough about how amazing Pacific Vision Institute is. This is definitely the place to go for LASIK in San Francisco. I went to several clinics for a LASIK consultation prior to choosing Pacific Vision Institute and was really surprised by their lack of professionalism and poor attention to detail. In one of the clinics, the tech person who did pressure check on my eye even managed to scratch my cornea. From the moment you walk into Pacific Vision, you understand that these are top notch professionals and they will take your vision very seriously. The celebrity pictures, the pictures of eye doctors Dr. Faktorovich did LASIK on, the pictures of athletes, and the tech talent that line the walls of the clinic are a great testament to the skill of the doctors who work here. I felt immediately at ease. 1 month later, and I am seeing better than I have ever seen with glasses and contacts. There are a few reasons why I am rating PVI so highly. 1. Results of surgery. This clinic was the only clinic I went to that provided me with their results. This was important to me in making a decision if I wanted to proceed with surgery and where I wanted to do it. 2. Staff. The staff here are knowledgeable and kind. Dr. Faktorovich was always generous with her time. We've had pretty long conversations on the phone and in person. I never felt rushed. We've even spoke on a Sunday. 3. Aftercare. I received complimentary artificial tears and the staff was generous with the amount they gave me. They were also attentive and were able to accommodate my schedule. I had to call several times into the clinic with questions and Dr. Chen promptly returned my calls and provided me with very helpful advise. Overall, if I could give more than 5 stars, I would.
