Paws down, the BEST doggie fair we've attended! So many…read morebooths. Lots of vendors handing out samples. Shows & contests. Food trucks. Lots of dogs & cats available for adoption (ONLY $30!!! AND, they come already micro-chipped & spayed/neutered.) No admission or parking fees. We've been to a lot (check my "Dog Friendly Adventures" list) and for a spur-of-the-moment decision to attend, this was a really good experience for us & our little Ruxin. Venue's great at William S. Hart Park. Grassy & shady. Accessible restrooms. Parking wasn't a problem since we came early. Found a public lot 2 blocks away. Our Ruxin is apparently tired of his current dog food so we wanted to pick up some samples to see if he'd show interest in something new. Came home with all kinds of food & treats. The various vendors were great about explaining their products & letting us know where we can buy them locally or online. We pup-sit our son's Corgis often and these samples will be shared with them. One of them has a really fussy tummy & most of the samples are organic. Several veterinary offices also had booths there if you live locally & want to meet the staff. There was a shots clinics also which had a long line. Someone told us the various shots were low-cost or possibly free. There's also pet-themed art & crafts being sold. I bought some dog toys at very reasonable prices. We seriously considered adopting another JackChi, but Ruxin was being a weenie. He wasn't being nice to the other dog at all. Additional notes: Dogs must be well-behaved and on leash. Please bring poop bags. Small dogs should be carried or in a stroller. It got crowded very quickly. Our lil' guy got his tail stepped on, so the hubby carried him for the rest of our stay. There's donation boxes situated here and there. The donations help to keep this festival free for all of us. We had a great time and will definitely want to come back next year.

Here comes a 5 star review if there ever was one! Our beloved dog had to be put down around 6…read moremonths ago. Had no interest in a replacement for her until we thought more and more about it. My wife and I have so much love for each other, we needed to share that with another dog! After all, a house with no dog is no home! We thought about getting a nice puppy, but then thought about saving a shelter dog, and that seemed like the thing we wanted to do now. Enter Robert and Yana. Saw a pure white Maltese online at their rescue that we thought could be a candidate. Drove over there and there were at least 50 dogs there, horses, and all kinds of animals! The Maltese, named Coco, as it turns out, had been a stud for making puppies at a puppy mill. Never got any love or attention. Was treated badly. Owner had actually cut his ears (still can't figure out what that nut was thinking!) He was then abandoned, chained under a house and left for dead in the hot Lancaster sun for months as he deteriorated, his fur became terribly matted, he lost almost all his teeth. Nearby people threw him scraps once in a while, but nobody cared to save him. Then somehow Robert and Yana found about this and drove out there to try to do it themselves! But Coco wouldn't come to them. They tried treats, and everything, but he wouldn't come to anyone. He was a wild dog. Then Robert thought! He brought a female dog to entice Coco, and just like that, he came out to do his life-long duty, when they grabbed him. He has had a lot of health issues, as mentioned, and a bad ear infection to boot. A lot of these things were addressed by Rob and Yana. These Incredible people do God's work, I'm telling you! I was so amazed at how they devote their lives to saving precious fur-babies like they do! We decided this dog was for us! A challenge to be sure for me, but I've always been good at teaching dogs tricks, etc. Coco is a bit rough around the edges, of course, but I feel confidant as he makes strides learning and most importantly enjoying life, with ALL the love for him and him alone! To get puppy-chinos from Starbucks, go on long walks, given the best food, doggy parks, having his own people to lay on their laps.We've had Coco for three weeks now, and you wouldn't believe the changes in him! (and how fast he has become spoiled!) Our hearts feel SO good knowing the good life we will provide him with, no matter how long he has with us in this world and we feel so good for HIM! He comes when called, is learning how to 'sit' and 'sit up', and is very loving! He is very sensitive personality. I can't imagine him being this way and still surviving everything he was up against. Robert is the nicest guy! A great guy! They set me up with all kinds of stuff. Food, treats, some medicines, and everything we needed to know about him. Leash, collar, harness, and this is just the beginning!,They care so much about what they're doing you can't help but get sucked in! Yana is such a hard worker too. Just super loving, caring, knowledgable folks! They went out of their way to help us out every way they could, and no we have a happy, sweet baby that's all ours! "I'll be there in 1 hour" then 2 then 3 etc. That was just an annoyance. When it came time to deliver us rabies proof and all the other paperwork things took a rapid dark turn. We simply wanted proof of rabies to be safe with the training requirement and our liability when the dog is out n about. The owner responded to our brief request with a multi paragraph emotional rant. Truly baffling stuff. Then came lie after lie. In a single email thread the paperwork was available but she was too busy to deliver it then sick then came the doozy that explains why this is a pattern behavior... The states intent of mutt match is to deceive the adopter into thinking they will get paperwork upon adoption then withhold the paperwork until the trainer friend is paid. This is not what you will be told upfront. Once we knew the trainer friend for some reason did not worry about rabies proof (most do require it) we booked training immediately. The trainer is fantastic and likely unaware of what is happening. Then the paperwork showed up. In the 2 month process of dealing with deception and negative emotional commentary that borders on childish name calling (to give a flavor of how weird it gets) our pet was unable to go to our groomers or vet as they require proper paperwork. In summary, The dog is not the priority. The money is. And that would be fine if it was a honest adoption process. But the bizarre deceptive business practices turned a simple process into a constant headache with a high conflict personality at the cost of the dogs well being. Poor management. Would avoid this place like the plague. The owner says she simply "laughs" at Yelp negative reviews when respectfully asked about the pattern we saw in other reviews.

Being a rescue, which doesn't euthanize animals, and without taxpayer funding, they are running on a much smaller budget than your local shelters are. As such they can't rescue every dog that is turned in. Anyone on here ripping Rhonda for being unable to rescue your neglected animal is just sounding entitled and awful. Do you have any idea how it must feel to have to turn away neglected animals because you simply can't save them all? Shame on you for bashing someone who spends their time helping the best they can in a sad situation. 3. Rhonda is picky in finding homes for her animals. Why shouldn't she be? My families application was denied for a reason I particularly don't agree with. But I 100% respect her decision. Instead of assuming a stranger knows you and your integrity, try to imagine how hard it is to spend your life seeing abused, severely neglected, and unwanted animals come in over and over again. Let's get into it and elaborate on why you should work with literally any other rescue in LA. - I was trying to rehome a husky who is in a tricky situation. After a few years of living outdoors, the dog had become infested with fleas recently. - Home owners are ill equipped for this and cannot tend to the situation. Quite literally do not have the means for treatment, and are disabled. All of which was told to Rhonda, but only after she yelled at me and scolded me because she didn't care to ask follow up questions before attacking me. Just immediately went into attack mode. - "What are we supposed to do about it? What are YOU doing to help the situation?" Let's put on our thinking caps here. Well, Rhonda, you might have to use someone's else's. YOU are QUITE LITERALLY SUPPOSED TO HELP. I am REACHING OUT TO YOU for help because NOBODY IS EQUIPPED FOR THIS. Do your job maybe? Just a thought, Rhonda. - Rhonda wouldn't let me finish explaining anything. She said to me, "what do you expect us to do? Knock on their door and teach them how to care for a dog?" YIKES! This is why your business is in shambles and can't even break 3 stars! Just loud, impudent, and shameless. - As Rhonda interrupted me for the third time, I finally caught an attitude because who do you think you are? I told her, "Well if you let me finish what I'm saying then you'd know. You are being rude to me and I'm literally calling you for help. I'm trying to save a life and you're being rude and have an attitude. Why are you yelling at me?" To which she responded "Oh wow you're about to give me a bad time" and hung up. Yes, hung up. Not surprised she acted like a victim, it's a pattern. Look at her responses to one star reviews, excuse after excuse. - Reader, this was after she gave me an absolutely horrific time. After she shamed me, blamed me, yelled at me, and kept cutting me off. Once she jumped to her own conclusions, I wasn't allowed to get a word in. Rehoming a dog is NOT EASY. I found myself in a very complex situation with an animal that is not mine, which according to Rhonda, does not matter. Your situation does not matter. She flat out doesn't care. - Rhonda, I understand that with geriatric age, cognitive delays are expected. But what you have needs clinical attention. Cannot be from old age, no way. Seek help immediately. Genuinely, I am concerned. I am not the first person you've been extremely difficult with and I won't be the last, which is sad because people turn to you for help only to find out that you are futile. It's hard to believe that an unkind person created a dog rescue. When did your irrational behavior begin? A brain tumor perhaps? Rhonda hung up on me, which only prompted me to call her back and leave a strongly worded voicemail. Because Rhonda wanted to prove whatever point she was proving (weird, but ok), she left an animal in need to suffer. Wow, you really got me! Your pride took priority over your "passion" to save animals... is that the look you were going for, Rhonda? Imagine claiming to love animals but then willingly leaving one to suffer because someone snapped back at your unprofessionalism and impertinence. My goodness Rhonda. Your responses to reviews just prove everything I'm saying -- You lack basic manners and basic etiquette. Grammar and spelling as well. Pick up a book since you're shifting priorities. You are much better off calling quite literally any other rescue in Los Angeles. Any. Other. Rescue. This is THE worst rescue I have ever (attempted) to work with, by far. And Rhonda, enough with the "anyone can say anything on yelp!" That is simply untrue. This is my true and honest experience with HUSKY HAVEN OF LA SPECIFICALLY WITH RHONDA. I applied for a dog and was called the very next morning to go see him. I ended up taking him home the same day! I was surprised at how clean and nice the facilities are, especially since they have so many dogs. The dogs are really taken care of, and every single staff member I interacted with was helpful and kind. They answered all of my questions and gave me a lot of advice since it's my first time owning a dog, let alone a puppy. I was able to text and call them with questions after I brought him home too. Their free training sessions are a huge benefit. I've already had a one on one (they offer group sessions too), and it helped my puppy make a lot of progress with jumping and leash pulling. They're really called paws for LIFE for a reason--they care about making sure it's a good fit both for the human and the dog. If you find it's not a good fit, they're happy to take the dog back, which I think is a great policy.
