I've driven past this spot so many times and we decided to finally give it a try - it wasn't very busy so there was no wait to be seated and our server was nice and welcoming. The chips and salsa are good - the chips were fresh and the salsa had good flavor. I had the shredded beef chimichanga for lunch - the cheese sauce on the chimichanga was really tasty and they put a generous amount on there, I really enjoyed the flavor of the shredded beef as well, would definitely order it again. My kids had the chicken ranch quesadilla and the kids chicken tenders and they both devoured their plates, so I'll take that as both of their dishes were delicious as well. The food came out quickly and our server stopped in and checked on us just the right amount of times. The exterior of the restaurant looks like a big red barn, and the inside was much nicer than I anticipated. There's some cute decor and neon signs with catchy phrases - there's booth seating as well as normal tables and it's very open and spacious inside. Very disappointing experience at Vallarta's Mexican Restaurant. The service was poor and extremely slow. We ordered skinny margaritas, but they were so overwhelmingly sweet that we could barely take two sips. We also ordered nachos that never arrived. Eventually, our server admitted that they had forgotten to place the order. The chicken fajitas were another major disappointment. The portion and quality of the chicken were pathetic, it honestly looked like scraps. The photo speaks for itself. On top of that, the food was excessively salty. We have been here before, and if this was the first impression we would have walked right back out. Our table was so sticky that we could not even move the menu or drinks around, all five menus we had literally had food all over the outside and inside the plastic wrapping, really gross. Went hereon a Friday night to try it out. We lost our Dale Mabry location when it closed suddenly without notice. This location was a step up from our old location and the place was packed. Our server was nice and helpful and we had our food fast. While the food was a little different from the other location we enjoyed our meal and would certainly return. We came for dinner on a Friday night. Though it was full of patrons, we did not have to wait for a table and were seated immediately. The decor is colorful and really fun. The complementary chips and salsa were very tasty. I ordered a chile poblano and a soft beef taco off of the a la carte menu. Both were very good and it would definitely get them again. I have been to this restaurant a couple of times because it is near our home. Both times food was terrible. Over salty and red sauce poured straight from a cold can. A lot of the $16.95 combos don't even include rice and beans. The chili relleno is a soggy green pepper filled with over salty ground beef unless you "upgrade" but even then I'm not sure it would be good. I love Mexican food but I won't be back to Vallarta's. read more

I frequent this restaurant, it is our go to Mexican restaurant in the Trinity area. The prices are fair and the food is what you would expect from a Mexican-American restaurant. Nothing that will blow you away, but given the environment, the great service we always receive the great drink specials, we always enjoy our dinner and I recommend. We go there once a week, the service is impeccable and the food is delicious. I highly recommend the chicken tortilla soup it's definitely enough for two meals. It is filled with tons of pulled chicken and avocado. Their salsa is always consistent unlike other Mexican restaurants in the area. read more

Ordered the Floutas along with a pitcher of margaritas and a bowl of queso as an appetizer. So several of the reviews here between 1-3 starts are on point. Service is below expectations and a main reason that I stopped going to Vallarta's by the AMC Vets theatre years ago. We did get the chips and salsa in a timely manner but it took a while for our server to come by and take our order. By the time we got our queso we were ready for a second basket of chips. Queso was good and what you would expect from a Mexican restaurant. Now in a few reviews I read the author stated that the meat was bland and not seasoned. They were on point. I dipped mine in the queso or the salsa depending on my mood. I think that they should season the meat more to give it flavor instead of having to dip it in salsa/queso. Margaritas were good and the pitcher was really full. I would urge the managers to review the 1, 2, and 3 star reviews to see where they can make simple improvements that will garner higher customer ratings. Personally I will hit the other Mexican restaurants as I like my Mexican food with more seasoning and faster service. read more
