I stopped by for a takeout order 30 minutes before they were closing the girl upfront who picked up the phone was super polite. When ordering on the phone, she put me on hold to check on questions I had I was able to give me an answer . I'm glad I was able to stop by and pick up the Menudo. It was super delicious. My wife and I ate there for the first time today. We were heading home (to Tampa) from NPR and decided to stop in and eat lunch. The service was phenomenal. Everyone was nice and attentive. Standard, friendly Mexican restaurant with ample seating, nice decor, large menu and plenty of staff. I've visited twice in the last year with a large group including children. Service was very good, food arrived fresh and correct. I recommend coming here. They have two kinds of queso, and most of my dining companions prefer the white. We also recommend, if you want to top off your burrito for example with some, order the side instead of asking the kitchen to do it. The price is almost the same but you will be happier with the serving size and ability to control the amount and share it. Two kinds of salsa with the chips; maybe more. The tomatillo green chili is spicier than the regular red. I'd say it's medium or a like above that... you feel it after the initial flavors. Both salsas are very good. I truly don't understand how this place has as many stars as it does considering how bad everything is. First we ordered cheese dip and it didn't arrive. Wish I hadn't said anything because when it did arrive after our meals did it was the worst I've ever had. Their salsa was bland and watery but that's complimentary so can't complain. Our mains, oh my gosh not a single good thing to say. I got the chile rellenos I asked for spicy HA still had NO flavor. My husband got the steak burrito "spicy" again no flavor and the steak was a strange texture. I have never been so disappointed in a meal than tonight and all for $60. Both of us agreed that the meat could have been more tender. My grilled chicken was tough and chewy, either reheated or overcooked. But the portion size was good. I ordered corn and a side salad. The corn wasn't sweet, so I didn't eat much. After the three tacos with guacamole, sour cream, tomatoes, and lettuce, I was too full to try the salad. Umm... the service was good! Our waitress was friendly and attentive. The food was unfortunately what I expected from experiences at other Mexican restaurants in the area. The enchiladas I ordered weren't heated enough, and the chicken didn't have much flavor. I did like the green sauce it was served with though. The rice was dry, but had nice flavor. The corn was from the can I think, and it didn't have any seasoning or anything added. I tried the refried beans my husband ordered with his dish. They had an odd smokey flavor that tasted like that artificial seasoning. This is the New Port Richey on Old SR54. Today is my birthday May 6 and yesterday I called about their special on birthdays (last year my neighbor took me on May 5th and they would not honor because they said it has to be your birthday) I thought this year I would go since it is close to my home. I called and asked the girl what the rules were. She said I could come by myself but I had to buy something else beside the meal like a drink. I said ok I can do that. When I arrived today the girl at the door said I had to have two drinks, two meals to get the birthday special. I was just going to go home and make lunch but then saw a neighbor was home so I asked if she wanted to go. She said absolutely and we headed back over there. When we got the bill the birthday special was not on it. The same girl said they needed to see my drivers licese to verify-NO ONe said anything about that when I called or was there the first time. My neighbor was just going to pay for it but I said no I will go get my drivers license. I rode home while she waited at the restaurants and got my license and returned. Slapped it down on the counter in front of the manager and she never even looked at it, I will never go there again. Misinformation and they made a living hell out of my birthday. I'm always searching for a fabulous Mexican restaurant with great chips and salsa, and a chimichanga. My husband and I have struggled with this task for nearly 6 years now. We stopped by Carmelita's after church one Sunday. The chips, while a bag-style and not homemade chip were served hot with yummy salsa. They had the chimichanga on the menu so I ordered the chicken style. Requested queso on it which was accommodated with an extra charge. The flavor of the chimichanga was good. The side of rice was also tasty. Three of us ate for just over $50. We will make a return visit. I totally enjoyed their nachos. They were loaded with meat, cheese, olives, onions, tomatoes, guacamole's and sour cream. What makes these nachos so great is that it was constructed in layers. A layer of Nachos followed by a layer of all of the yummy toppings. Then another layer of nachos with all of the toppings, then baked to perfection. Hint.
