I was excited to see the shop and was very interested in purchasing some cheese. My husband and I drove 45 minutes from across town to visit the shop. It also happened to be the Friday after the large ice storm we recently had, so we were happy to be able to support a local business after they had to close for a few days due to the weather. Upon arriving, we parked in the garage and walked around for a good ten minutes trying to find the shop. There is no good signage to show you exactly where the shop is, and walking around in 25-degree weather trying to find it was frustrating and we almost left. We finally found it, and upon walking inside, it was a warm and inviting space. There were two employees in the shop/restaurant area - one was helping a customer at the register and the other was talking to a friend/customer from behind the cheese counter. We were looking at the wall of non-cheese items, which seemed like a nice selection of crackers, mustards, honeys, and other accompaniments you could purchase. We walked up to the cheese counter and started looking at the cheese in the refrigerated display. We went back and forth between picking up cheese to see what it was and patiently looking up to wait for someone to acknowledge/help us. While we stood there, another employee came out from the back of the restaurant to bring samples of cheese to the customer at the register and promptly went back into the kitchen. The friend/customer of the other employee left, and the second employee that had been behind the counter moved out into the restaurant and started wiping empty tables. At this point, we had probably been in the shop for a good ten minutes. None of the employees acknowledged we were there, not even to say they would be with us shortly or to offer a hello. At this point I was frustrated, so we left to go to the bathroom in the hallway and didn't go back in. I'm not sure if we weren't "hip" enough for them to even say hello to, if we didn't look the part or what, but being completely ignored in a tiny shop for over ten minutes was beyond rude. I was so excited to visit this shop, but the experience left a bad taste in our mouths. As they say, "you never get a second chance to make a first impression", so we will find other places to spend our money.

We each started with a wine flight which we all very much enjoyed. To eat, we started with the French Cultured Butter and Bread which was incredible. The bread was super fresh and had some seasoning on top that was just so delicious. It was served with a seasonal jam and French cultured butter. I'm not usually a fan of jams, but whatever this jam was almost turned me into jam lover. It was super smooth and not overly sweet, pairing well with the butter in a way that made me smile. The cultured butter was also so delicious on its own. We also ordered a charcuterie board which came with two meats, three cheeses, the same bread as the other dish, almonds, pickles, and jams. It was a lot of bread given it was the same bread as the other dish we had, but it was all so good, we didn't mind. Everything was super fresh and each one of us gravitated towards different cheeses, meats and accompaniments in such a way that you could tell the selection was well-rounded. My friends each also ordered sandwiches which they loved. They mentioned being short staffed that day and the service was a tad slow, but thankfully it didn't impact our experience much. This place is an absolute gem and I'll definitely be back!

We sampled all the products currently available. They change periodically. The cheese spreads were original, veggie, pumpkin, fig, honey and red pepper. They were all fantastic. We bought one of each plus a Greek Kiss cheese wrapped in grape leaves and a Southern Bell with pecans and bourbon flavors. All of it was so good I'm sure we will use it quick and be back. You really should visit or order online. I for one am hoping they can open a restaurant somewhere in the area using their products. I really want to try that ice cream or a cheesecake. After reading other…read moreYelper's reviews, I opted out of the tour so this review is only for the café, and products. The quaint town of Elkmont features Belle Chevre (and apparently another goat cheese farm that is going to go to the winner of an essay contest). Parking is ample and I believe the owner is a graphic designer as well as artisan cheese maker, so the design is spot on! I love the logo and the look and feel of the café. On the checkout counter of the café, are the samples. The lady doles out the samples on a wooden spoon reminiscent of a tongue depressor. I didn't care for that. However, they have crackers that you may break into squares for your samples. Win! I tried all the goat cheese samples and loved the fig, the coffee, and the pimento cheese the most, and then the "regular" is really good too. Behind where you sample cheese (meaning behind your back) is a refrigerator containing the items for purchase, and you can buy the cheesecake (my family's fav) at the sample and checkout counter. I ordered a grilled pimento cheese BLT and it was really delicious! I don't recall the price (8.00 maybe?) but it was hot and delivered in a~ 15 minutes. I purchased several of the cheeses that are in jars at room temperature and we really enjoyed one of them (I believe it was the Tuscan Chevre that we all liked, but it may have been the Greek Kiss 'Grape Leaved' Discs). I also purchased the cranberries and walnuts disk of cheese. The cheese wrapped in grape leaves was really good, but not the grape leaf. It was tough, but imparted a delicious flavor! I've been told that Isom's Orchard on 72 in Athens carries BC's products and that Costco in Huntsville does, but don't quote me on that. Go here, it's so quaint, you are missing out if you don't take the pretty drive and try this good cheese!

It is really on Spring street just prior to Jefferson. The experience starts with the service and atmosphere. Top notch'. Came in solo and they had options inside, bar, window or wine bar. I asked what they recommended and she said the wine bar. Denise is the host de jour in the wine bar. Perfect she was great and 70's classic light rock. So cool. Check out the pics. Great place to chill drink some wine. Even cooler on a date for a nice quiet time relaxing. Denise really knew the menu and chefs. I went with the canadian bakin baguette and farmers market plate with chicken. The baguette was warmed nicely and the garlic spice butter was really good. The farmers market plate was a great surprise. All the veggies melded together perfectly. The flavor profiles with tomatoes, watermelon radish, asparagus, brocolini.... was awesome. Add in a little salty spice with sweet potato mash at the bottom. Dayum great dish. I did get the chicken with the dish. Totally not needed, the veggies carried the day. Minor feedback for the chicken would be a char on the chicken to go with the dish. I forgot about the duck fat fries and ordered them. Almost perfect. They came out piping hot with great flavor. The curry catchup and garlic aioli were great. Minor feedback is the fries did not appear twice fried. They were good but that would be the additional touch. I will count the fries as dessert. They were delicious, definitely a shareable side, I did my best on my solo date. Service continued to be amazing. Denise replaced my water bottle not because it was empty but because she thought it may be warm. Great experience, great food, great atmosphere. Definitely recommend for party or date to relax. Thanks Domaine South. Another 5* for Huntsville.

These were birthday gifts for my favorite Sister. Fast forward to Tuesday, and the extremely well packed box arrived! Wow, talk about fast shipping! The lip balms were treated with so much care! They were packed in a reusable ice pack envelope, and packed so well, I had to get the scissors out to open them, which sadly, damaged the envelope package but not the balms. 1818 offers a handwritten note along with their products, which I forgot about. After Sister joyfully opened her gifts, I remembered the hand written note, which we retrieved from the abundant bubble wrap in the trash can, and Sister just loved the note! Such a nice, sweet, personal touch! To this day, Sister is looking for the perfect easel on which to display her beautiful resin tray, and you can even specify a color scheme for the flowers in the resin products. Do consider 1919 Farms for unique, natural, and in nearly all [perhaps all] cases handmade items that support a locally owned Farm. Thanks so much 1818 Farms for making my Sister's birthday extremely memorable!!!!!

Events here may triple the population of the town on a regular basis. In addition to Natasha's line of cosmetics, the beautiful little farm raises organic produce, heritage breed Babydoll Southdown Sheep, and other farm animals. It is a popular site for weddings and receptions I understand. Seminars, children's camps, classes and retreats are just a few of other activities that are found here. When I first met the owner, she told me about their farm-to-table dinners featuring produce grown on site and when I got home, went online and made reservations shortly before it sold out. On June 10, 2016, I attended my first Dinner on the Farm featuring Chef Jakob Reid of the Albany Bistro in nearby Decatur, Alabama. You will not find a prettier setting for a farm-to-table dinner. A rustic pavilion with fans, elegant seating and table settings is located in a shady corner of the property with a view of the woods and a nearby creek. Beautiful music provided by the Mellotones of Madison, Alabama, provided a really serene background of perfect relaxing live string harmonies. Appetizers were the first enticement offered to guests. A platter of grilled shrimp on miniature grit cakes tasted as good as they looked. A variety of pickled vegetables made in the Farm kitchens were spread with an assortment of cheeses, including a local goat cheese, and crackers. An egg salad dip from on site farm chicken eggs rounded out the bountiful appetizer table. A special treat with the Camembert cheese was a blueberry jalapeño jam hand made with on site ingredients by the hostess, Natasha McCrary. The slight spiciness of the jalapeños was a surprisingly good compliment to the sweet blueberries. With the cheese, it was a powerhouse combination. The first course consisted of a beautifully prepared bruschetta with heirloom tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, with a drizzle of Georgia olive oil and balsamic vinegar, and farm raised basil grown and picked just feet away from our tables. The second course was a small salad of fresh, young cucumbers marinated in Georgia olive oil, vinegar, dill and basil served on a wedge of Italian flat bread. The main course was a perfectly roasted moist and flavorful skinless chicken breast, named by the chef "airline chicken" with a wing bone left attached like the tail of an airplane. A grit cake well toasted on all sides with a faint taste of Andouille sausage was a great side to the chicken and was a fitting compliment, almost like a Cajun cornbread, to perfectly cooked vegetables which were my favorite dish of the evening. Farm grown squash, zucchini, and pole beans were steamed with a light seasoning that complimented but did not hide the wonderful taste of the vegetables. Chef Reid has the ability to showcase the taste of the wonderful fresh produce he prepares without over seasoning. The final course for the evening was a very French inspired baked meringue with a topping of strawberry mousse from locally grown strawberries and drizzled with a dark chocolate Ganache. It was a very decadent desert to end a very wonderful meal in a very wonderful setting. The special dinners served here do not include beverages except for water and so you are encouraged to bring your own. Most guests did bring their favorite wines which were very abundant. I prefer wines matched to the food on special dining occasions so a menu, which was not provided, would be a helpful suggestion. Dress is casual and should be comfortable for an outdoor setting.
