We came here for a cheese and wine class and had a blast! Their head cheesemonger is entertaining and knowledgeable. They also had a local wine rep to educate us about the wine. We had five wine and cheese courses, in addition to the introductory wine and cheese to "warm us up." The space is warm and open. Tons of open coolers to check out cheeses and wines after. We paid almost 200 dollars for two people to have wine, cheese, a charcuterie and crusty bread board (optional). So about 100 bucks a person. I thought this was a reasonable value and we had such a great time. Keep in mind, this is was you make of it . . . the more questions you ask, the more you will learn. We learned about politics in cheese, cheese thievery, under-appreciated cheeses that smell like gym socks, but taste like a dream. A very laid back and congenial environment. We definitely plan on returning to shop! And they have a "girl scout and cheese pairing" class every April that I can't wait to try next year! As far as people complaining about parking, not sure what they are talking about. There is a commercial parking lot out front and the first two hours are free. read more

I found Grey's online after wanting to find a local cheese shop that might have some options that are not available at the grocery store. I was excited to see the shop and was very interested in purchasing some cheese. My husband and I drove 45 minutes from across town to visit the shop. It also happened to be the Friday after the large ice storm we recently had, so we were happy to be able to support a local business after they had to close for a few days due to the weather. Upon arriving, we parked in the garage and walked around for a good ten minutes trying to find the shop. There is no good signage to show you exactly where the shop is, and walking around in 25-degree weather trying to find it was frustrating and we almost left. We finally found it, and upon walking inside, it was a warm and inviting space. There were two employees in the shop/restaurant area - one was helping a customer at the register and the other was talking to a friend/customer from behind the cheese counter. We were looking at the wall of non-cheese items, which seemed like a nice selection of crackers, mustards, honeys, and other accompaniments you could purchase. We walked up to the cheese counter and started looking at the cheese in the refrigerated display. We went back and forth between picking up cheese to see what it was and patiently looking up to wait for someone to acknowledge/help us. While we stood there, another employee came out from the back of the restaurant to bring samples of cheese to the customer at the register and promptly went back into the kitchen. The friend/customer of the other employee left, and the second employee that had been behind the counter moved out into the restaurant and started wiping empty tables. At this point, we had probably been in the shop for a good ten minutes. None of the employees acknowledged we were there, not even to say they would be with us shortly or to offer a hello. At this point I was frustrated, so we left to go to the bathroom in the hallway and didn't go back in. I'm not sure if we weren't "hip" enough for them to even say hello to, if we didn't look the part or what, but being completely ignored in a tiny shop for over ten minutes was beyond rude. I was so excited to visit this shop, but the experience left a bad taste in our mouths. As they say, "you never get a second chance to make a first impression", so we will find other places to spend our money. read more

I had the pleasure of enjoying the wine and cheese pairing night at Greys! I loved the intimate nature of the experience (less than a dozen people) and the shop is only open to those there! The cheese was delicious and it was cool to try some new ones I wouldn't normally eat. The wine pairings were delicious, I loved the white wines the best. This is a fun event to do with friends or as a date. You are able to shop from them afterwards as well. Parking is free for 2 hours and there is a large lot and garage. read more

I cannot recommend this place enough! came here on a Saturday afternoon with a couple of friends and it was phenomenal experience! We each started with a wine flight which we all very much enjoyed. To eat, we started with the French Cultured Butter and Bread which was incredible. The bread was super fresh and had some seasoning on top that was just so delicious. It was served with a seasonal jam and French cultured butter. I'm not usually a fan of jams, but whatever this jam was almost turned me into jam lover. It was super smooth and not overly sweet, pairing well with the butter in a way that made me smile. The cultured butter was also so delicious on its own. We also ordered a charcuterie board which came with two meats, three cheeses, the same bread as the other dish, almonds, pickles, and jams. It was a lot of bread given it was the same bread as the other dish we had, but it was all so good, we didn't mind. Everything was super fresh and each one of us gravitated towards different cheeses, meats and accompaniments in such a way that you could tell the selection was well-rounded. My friends each also ordered sandwiches which they loved. They mentioned being short staffed that day and the service was a tad slow, but thankfully it didn't impact our experience much. How can you not love a shop that's all about cheese? I'm a longtime fan of the Greys inside Factory at Franklin - but had yet to stop into this location in Sylvan Supply. They are open everyday except Monday for your cheese and charcuterie needs. My husband and I wandered in on a Sunday after grabbing lunch nearby, and chatted with Tucker, who recommended some delicious cheeses! We went home with a fun buffalo Taleggio (great melter!) and some of my current favorite - Cabot Clothbound. Greys also carries a variety of jams, jellies, and crackers, making this a one-stop shop for any cheese board building you may be doing. It's important to note that this is Nashville's only "cut to order" cheese shop ... and you can literally just hold up your hand to demonstrate how much of a certain cheese you'd like. The customer service is excellent - and I'm confident that there's no place better to stock up on specialty cheese than Greys! read more

I heard there was a new cheese shop behind Bearded Iris (between the barista and the wine shop). I figured I would go in and see what kind of cheese I could buy (apologies for not taking a snap of the cheese cooler for purchasing). I stayed for a board. If you look at the picture, you can see what a $30 cheese & charcuterie board look like here. They also have a larger board for $50, but I think this could easily serve two. Add on a glass of wine and you have a nice afternoon snack that is filling enough to have a light dinner later. The board came with a variety of salame and cured thin sliced pork delicacies. On to of that was one blue and a couple of additional cheeses of various hardness. Topped off with peppers, pickles, and crostini, it was a nice board. The cheese choices were fantastic, as were the meats. I want to go back and try a sandwich, as that is what most people were raving about when I went over. A bit pricier than some delis, but these are high end meats and cheeses, so worth it if you want to experience finer foods. While I was there, the owner opened up a pack of epoisses and let me sample some. Good enough I grabbed a rind to take to a beer share we were having the next day. I must say my friends, overall, don't like a stinky cheese (this one is a rind cheese that has been washed in burgundy wine and then cave aged. As for finding cheese, it is a mixed bag. They do sell cheese as a shop, but the selection is limited and on the higher end. You can find some rare cheeses, hand selected by the owner, but you won't find as wide a selection. I don't think that degrades the spot at all, but it is something to keep in mind if you are just shopping for cheese to take home. Would I return? You betcha. I have to get a sammie at some time and see how it ranks. read more

We loved our date night at Grey's. We had the Olive starter, a wedge salad w blue cheese and 3 cheese/2meat planche. We also had the red wine flight. We sat at the bar and the cheese monger Michelle was incredibly knowledgeable and so much fun to talk to. Our dishes were all lovely with a good variety and they have a great. Case of cheese that you can select to take home. The service was fantastic and having so many flavors to taste and try was a really unusual sensory treat! We saw some larger parties sitting in their casual couch seating with large grazing trays and we will absolutely consider grays for our next gather of friends. A few notes for the owners: our 3 cheese planche was all hard cheeses, we enjoyed them but would have appreciated the option to choose from a list of cheeses, or at least be sure to put one creamy cheese in the selections. Also - we had both dill baby pickles and pickled okra...we would have appreciated an aioli or coarse ground mustard to go with excellent bread and salami. One more minor request- please put in some baffles or other soft textures to help reduce the ambient noise at this location. It gets quite loud which detracts from the intimate character of the menu and seating choices. All in all - 5 stars! We will definitely be back. The shop offers a wide variety of cheeses cut to order mostly from large cheese wheels. Drinks including wine and beer options. Also retail products including entertainment books. If dining in you can grab a charcuterie board and wine on site. They also have small bites. The happy hour is currently generous from 3-6 everyday. I was meeting with some friends from all around the US who haven't seen each other in years All of us have lived in Switzerland and we wanted to have a special dinner while we were in Nashville. I found Grey's Cheese Shop online and noticed they advertised an authentic Swiss raclette experience. Raclette is the unofficial national dish of Switzerland and we was skeptical it would be authentic but decided to give it a try. Grey's got everything perfect. All of us agreed it was like we were back in Switzerland. All the employees were very knowledgeable and were able to fulfill all our special requests. Do yourself a favor and try the raclette when you're in Nashville. I know I will next time I'm there. read more

We were a reunion group of nine exchange students to Switzerland in 1976 and went for the Raclette experience. It was outstanding!! The cheese was to die for, accoutrements were plentiful and the staff was super friendly and helpful. Only downside was the little ovens to melt the cheese weren't hot enough so it took a while to melt the slices. I would still 100% recommend it. read more
