The special education dept is especially strong at this school, particularly Ms Cherry and Ms Gaglax.

I toured this school with thinking I was going to enroll my son here. I attended a lot of events at…read morethis school growing up since my cousins went to school here and this was my home church. Unfortunately, I am extremely disappointed to say that the experience I had wasn't that great. First, when I met with the principal she let me know there was a "waiting list" then later speaking with the secretary she said there was no one on the wait list they just say that. During our visit my son was taken back to a room for an assessment where I wasn't present. I sat in the office area. During the assessment, the teacher asked my son questions like "do you get in trouble at school" and "do you talk a lot in class" and things around his behavior. When prior, during the tour, I was asking the principal questions around safety and what that looked like. I even shared certain challenges like talking in class. The following day, the principal called me to let me know that my son could do a "trial" with the school and see how he does in a month. This, I've never heard of and how is that even possible! It sounded like they were being selective and wanted to see how he would behave before fully accepting him into the school. Just by this, I decided this school wasn't the best fit for him. This school lacks diversity, acceptance of all people and judge. The 2 stars are for adding a park that the school didn't have, kudos for the secretaries kindness and her transparency that the principal hid. My son is thriving at his current school and an A/B student.

After a lot of research into private schools in Solano County 7 years ago, we landed on this one,…read moreand haven't looked back. Our kids actually get sad when they have to miss school for whatever reason. They love their teachers, and the teachers clearly care about their students. They could be teaching for teachers' unions in public schools, earning more money, but they choose our school because they care intensely about our kids and our families holistically: Intellectually, emotionally, physically, spiritually. I've trusted all my many kids with many normal kid-play injuries over MANY years to the wonderful women in the office, both the office manager and office assistant. They call me right away, disclose all the details of the injury, tell me how they treated them (with a lot of medical experience, I assure you they do everything I would have EVERY time), offer to talk to my child and of course allow me to pick them up if I ever deem it necessary. The teachers and administration answer every email and Class Dojo message I've ever sent, no matter how small the topic, within a very short time. Whenever I've approached the principal with a question or concern, she welcomes it with humility and openness, and actually makes changes worth making (this is notably not the case with many school principals). She surrounds herself with committees to make sure she's not missing anything. Between our excellent principal, our wonderful office manager, and our warm office assistant, the ambience in the office is pleasant and welcoming. As a parent, I don't want to leave when I stop in! The school community has really wonderful families we've befriended over the years or worked with on school volunteer opportunities. But for us, the most important aspect is the faith aspect. Our kids get to learn about the Catholic Faith through a beautiful and formational religion program; and they get to see it reflected in the faculty and administration in various ways, through their unique gifts, virtues, and sacrifices. My own faith has been enriched just through getting to know them and seeing their own, personal love of God.

Unless you are Catholic and care about your child receiving a Catholic education, there are far…read morebetter schools to choose from. Not in Vallejo public however, I would recommend district transfers. Their student assessment scores are struggling across the board for all grade levels. I find this very disappointing considering the tuition increases almost every year. With St. Basil's now having the highest tuition fees among all Vallejo Catholic schools- St. Basils, St. Catherines, St. Vincents. (According to current fee schedules posted online) You may notice St. Basils' STAR testing scores online are almost 3 years out of date. The image is shrunk down to size so that you can barely read the font. I had to request updated records directly from the school administration, and after going back and forth a few emails and getting the run-around, I was finally provided the schools' updated academic performance. Comparing this year's academic performance to that of 2020-2021 the scores have continued to steadily decline. Almost 50% of all students are in "intervention" or "on watch" for intervention in both Math & Reading. In my unfortunately honest opinion, I believe St. Basil's School hides behind their Catholic image to win over the community's trust and market themselves as an appealing alternative. However, many parents are busy balancing work/home life and do not have the time to look into their child's academics. They blindly trust that their child is receiving an adequate education, simply because it is a private school. I encourage all parents to first do their research on a school's performance regardless of which school you choose. If you receive any push back or hesitance, then chances are there is something they don't want you to see. Lastly, there are some miscellaneous items that I found distasteful at St. Basil's: Many times I showed up to my mandatory volunteer hours, i.e.- set up the gym for parties, etc. Only to walk in on the other parents drinking and getting tipsy in the kitchen like it was some high school reunion. I found this to be very off-putting and frankly unprofessional. The school staff and administration can be very cliquey, depending on how much you engage in their social events or donate. Some rules will be enforced for certain families; while another family in violation of the same degree will be overlooked and receive favoritism.
