The community is so warm and welcoming, of something happens (which is bound to at any marina) someone always speaks up and the marina is swift to handle it appropriately ! I tell all my friends to bring their boat here or just come enjoy the beautiful paradisiac atmosphere.

According to California law, deposits are not to be used to cover capital upgrades. I have call multiple times and give the run around, check in the mail, new accounting system upgrade..... Now it's looking like I'm going to have to take them to court, to get my money back. This use to be a good marina with a great location, not anymore. Renter beware. If you decide to keep your boat here, you may have the same problem.

A beautiful spot!…read more The Berkeley Marina quickly became one of my favorite weekend spots while going to school in the city. There is something here for quite literally everyone of all ages and physical capabilities. I visited on a warm Saturday afternoon and was pleased to see there were people literally everywhere. On the land, there were dozens of children playing on the playgrounds. My friends and I were walking by the Adventure Playground (a wooden, quite industrial-looking play area), where we heard what sounded like the hammering of wood. I jokingly asked, "what is that noise? Are the kids in there building the playground themselves?" To my surprise, they literally were. This playground offers the unique opportunity for children to build and design the play area themselves. There are forts, towers, and even a zipline. This is a great way for kids to build community and work with their hands. Right next to this is a more "traditional" playground with slides, swing sets, and all the works. There are also many walking/running trails around the whole marina. Along these paths there are benches and tables where you can have a picnic and enjoy the beautiful view of the bay. You'll see people being active throughout the whole area. The main paths are paved so they are accessible to those with mobility issues. There are public restrooms available that are relatively clean. The water activities are endless here. There are kayak rentals, sail boats, and just plain swimmers. There are multiple docks to launch small crafts and to take a dip. In the shallower beachy areas, there were children swimming. If you look off to the distance, you'll see the strong open water swimmers practicing in their wetsuits. You may even see people learning how to use a hydrofoil board. People are often flying their kites off the bay's breeze too. I believe this is truly a spot for everyone who enjoys the outdoors. But, must I warn you...beware of the squirrels because they WILL run up to you and they sure aren't shy.

The trail is along the water and you can see Mount Tam, the Richmond Bridge, and the East Bay in the distance as well as East and West Marin Island which are close in distance. Many birds like herons flock to this area. It's great for a stop to walk around if on a drive through China Camp.

But none of that makes up for the absolute disaster that is this marina's management. Power at the slips is unreliable--often dipping as low as 206 volts on a 50-amp pedestal, well below safe standards for sensitive equipment. Report basic maintenance issues, like leaky spigots, and you'll be met with silence. Maybe it's a revolutionary self-cleaning dock feature that I'm not privy to. Far more troubling, though, is the culture of selective rule-making and enforcement. Pat, the harbormaster, zips up and down the dock on a scooter, seemingly deciding who gets harassed and who gets a pass. Christine splits her time between marina duties and bartending at the yacht club, bringing inconsistency and attitude to both. In fact, the dysfunction here is so pronounced that it made headlines. A Marin Independent Journal article from 2013 (with several follow-up updates) details a surreal incident in which a marina regular bit off Pat's finger during a dispute in the vacant lot next door (now occupied by the housing development known as "The Strand"). The man had been building a catamaran out of Home Depot parts--destined for Hawaii. Sounds unbelievable--until you've spent time here. Then it just feels like another day at Loch Lomond. I briefly served as the entertainment director for the yacht club, and while the members were gracious and welcoming, their warmth couldn't compensate for the mismanagement that defines the harbor itself. I went to the restaurant and left…read more But this time, I took a chance to look around and marveled at all of the funky wood and metal treasures surrounding what would otherwise be a barren wasteland. The funkiness of the creative touches were cool. It was nice and sunny and there was a slight breeze. There were tables to sit, an unmanned cart for food, and the stage. I find it interesting that all of that was there because until I came to another restaurant in the area, I didn't know that this area existed. Now driving there is a beast because the roads are littered with potholes and there are areas where there is essentially one lane to drive, so you have to be very, very careful. But this spot, once you get to it, is it worth it? Maybe, it depends on what's going on. I'd love for them to have a bit more going on, but I respect the fact that it is so far out of the way that it may be a bit difficult. The marina down there is quite small and there's no way to tell how much business would come by that. So, this wouldn't be a destination like Berkeley or Richmond Marina's where they have options if you want to eat, but it's cute and funky and with the restaurant they have in the area, it's not a waste of time.

Ask around in the boating community about the harbormaster here, and you will get a VERY wide range…read moreof responses...a hint that we may, in my opinion, be dealing with a bi-polar or sociopathic personality. On one hand, you will get raised eyebrows, shaking heads and warnings like: "she can be sweet and nice, always with a slightly bitter saccharin aftertaste, but pity the fool that gets on her bad side. Others will say she is wonderful, with no complaints. IOWs, in my opinion, she seems to have two faces, one for slip owners, and another for the renters who she tends to view as second hand citizens. Rather than viewing customer SERVICE as the staff's paramount responsibility, customer POLICING is the focus, and the very long list of stringent rules are SELECTIVELY enforced, seemingly with the focus being renters Diane does not like. For example: Look at the aerial view of the marina on Google Maps. I count 36 boats that extend 1-3 feet beyond the ends of the slip fingers, which is not allowed in the rules. But, if you're on her s-list, Diane will come out and measure your boat, reprimand you for the violation, and demand corrective actions, including moving to a longer, more expensive slip. The same violations all around the marina are ignored. Diane also finds it impossible to admit when she is wrong. She simply will not say it, and it has been my experience that she will bend and stretch the truth mercilessly in order avoid having to admit she's not right about something. AND, even worse, if you do dare to disagree with her on even the most minor topic, and prove her wrong, you will never escape being on her bad side, and will be subjected to condescending passive aggressive communication as long as you are there under her very large thumb. For example, if you disagree with her or complain about something, she will tell you that if you don't like it there, you can leave, as if every boat owner doesn't already know that. I have at least 10 emails from her ending with that passive aggressive, threatening comment. Hardly a message the owners of the many vacant, unrented slips, or owners trying to sell their slips, would want current renters in good standing, potential renters or buyers to hear. And, if she doesn't like you, and you disagree with her more times than she can tolerate, she will EVICT you without cause, no reason given, a pure act of spite by a person who seems "mad with power". Not everyone can handle a position of power with consistent grace and kindness.

The staff here are incredibly unpleasant and they have policies that are nearly impossible to comply with. I bought a boat in this marina and before they would give me access they require I show them proof of ownership. I've never heard of this requirement before and I should have known what was coming. If you make an appointment with the DMV so you don't have to lose a work day it takes a month to get your new registration. Here is the rub, you only have 30 days from the day your boat is sold to vacate the marina. So you buy the boat, you are not allowed access to it for nearly a month and then you have to immediately leave. This really killed me because I bought an old boat that had been sitting for a long time. So somehow I was supposed to make is seaworthy to leave without access to it. I was going to try to keep it in the marina a couple months to get it in good shape but they told me the wait list was full. Every time I tried to talk to them about the situation they kept telling me "I've made the policy clear!" and "I hate when people ask me to break policy!" The marina was mediocre to begin with but the staff made it my worst marina/boating community experience I've ever had. I highly recommend avoiding this place.

Brickyard Cove beat them all out. it's nice to have the little town of Point Richmond nearby to catch dinner or pick up some supplies. we also like to have breakfast at All's Fare, the local diner at the dock. but, hands-down, the greatest thing about this place is how fast we can get out onto the bay and get the sails up. it takes just minutes! the only thing i would like to see is free wifi. they had something set up but apparently it's not worked out well and they're changing over to something else, but it's sure taking awhile for it to get set up. other than that, we love this marina!

And Klamath was great at answering the phone and paying attention to me when they were courting my dollars, but after I purchased a boat, the service turned completely terrible. Twice they sent me touch-up paint that doesn't match, and when I've sent emails and called, they just don't reply, though I was promised they would. They just don't care. If you're relying on a company to stand behind its product and treat customers with appreciation and respect, Klamath Boats is not the company for you.
