Started with chips and salsa. They make their own salsa dip. 2 types, spicy and no spice. I like a mix of both. I ordered a house salad and my husband ordered the 4 taco. They were both very yummy. Carne asada dinner was quite good and very reasonably priced. The steak, beans, and rice all were cooked in seasoned to perfection. Chips and salsa were tasty and voluminous. No topo Chico, but plenty of club soda on the tap. The dining room is very casual but clean and comfortable. There are sports going on the TV, and there's even a little Mexican candy stand. Found this restaurant on Yelp and had high hopes because of the reviews. We walked in on a Sunday evening and it was very empty and there was a very strong smell in the restaurant. We were given our menus and instructed to sit on one side of the restaurant that was dark (lights off). The smell was not going away! We waited several minutes for a server to come to our table and nothing. My daughter wanted to wash her hands so we went to the restroom. Do NOT go to the restroom, they were definitely having some type of plumbing issues. The whole bathroom smelled like sewer and we were gagging the whole time we washed our hands. My husband felt bad just walking out so we ordered drinks and two appetizers which were mediocre, but it could have been the smell that ruined the food experience. Really good. I ordered a basic chile Colorado burrito. I eat out 2 X's a day, everyday. I pick something basic and hope for the best. I am disappointed often. THIS PLACE is authentic! Super tasty homemade flour tortillas are hard to find in this town but rest assured valley azteca delivers. The place has a tv if you're looking for a place to watch something with your meal and some nice music playing regularly. The employees there feel more like friends as they are very helpful and well mannered. They make me feel comfortable everytime. My favorite meal there is the super quesadilla. Well, just another outstanding lunch at valley Azteca grill! There is plenty of parking, when we come to town this is always our first stop, the folks here are super friendly and they always are smiling. We love the Mexican music playing and the mood and ambiance. The decor is old school Mexican We ordered the machaca with rice and beans , and my wife ordered 2chicken enchiladas . They offer bottled and fountain drinks. Once again the chips were hot and the salsa was very flavorful. The owners came out to say hi to us and we really appreciate their friendliness. Just moved up here and I've been trying out places. I got a chile rellanó and chicken enchilada. The red sauce was so good. I would've eaten it out of the bowl with a spoon. Several salsas to try. Delicious rice and beans not over seasoned. Cute little nostalgic decor all over the place. Clean. I got jamaica and it was so delicious. I could've had three glasses of it. This review will be mixed. My husband was happy with the chips and salsa but I wasn't super impressed with the chips. I thought they could have been more hearty. He got a carne asada burrito and said it was very flavorful and loved it. I got the carne asada plate with salad. The salad was the typical light romaine lettuce (not much green which is what I prefer). The carne asada was very thin and a little over cooked for me but had good flavor. I took the rest of it with me for leftovers (so it was at least good enough). The service was friendly and the ambiance was very casual. The restaurant itself is much bigger than it looks from the front; it's in a corner of a strip mall. There were a couple of transients outside at a nearby business but that's not under the restaurant's control. read more

Recently visited the area again and stayed off Giuntoli Lane. After a long drive we were dying for some decent food but didn't want to go far. Luckily, Valley Azteca was right across the street and their food hit the spot. Although it's location is a little eyebrow raising with a smoke shop and dispensary sandwiching the business, don't let that turn you away if you're not used to that sort of thing. I've had good experiences with all of the businesses in the shopping center. There's plenty of seating in the restaurant and there's an expansive menu sure to satisfy whatever Mexican dish you are craving. Though they were out of the Chile Colorado, there was plenty to choose from. We had the Carne Asada plate which was good though the carne was a little tough. Being a picky carne connoisseur, it could just be my over-pickiness too. I also had the enchilada plate with Asada and Adobada. The Asada was better in the enchilada than it was by itself, but the adobada, man... that was tasty! The adobada had a good rich flavor and I would definitely recommend. Overall the staff was courteous, polite and attentive... and the food was exactly what we were craving. Would definitely stop by here again to try some more adventurous things on the menu. read more

Omg - this place is amazing! I was staying at a hotel across the street. I've ordered from this place once, I got Chile verde and remember it was being really good. Then my next visit in town, I ordered from somewhere else and remember paying a lot for small portions. I went in here today, and ordered chili Colorado and beans. Sometimes I just get lazy and order from whoever I can just order from online. It seemed like a husband and wife who own the store. A large chili Colorado was $14 - delicious and came with home made tortillas! The beans were also delicious and $5 for a large size! My partners family is from Mexico, and this truly reminded me of a home cooked meal at my family's home. The prices were low compared to other places - yet food was tastier than other restaurants! Food was unbelievable! Very authentic Mexican food, some of the best we have had in California. Service was superb and our little waitress, Vanessa was just slammed. She was so pleasant and attentive to us while still dealing with about 50 little league baseball players and their families. Ambiance was fun and pleasant. This little spot near the Hampton Inn was the perfect Mexican meal for our tennis team after a very long drive from the Bay Area. They accommodated all 12 of us, even though it was past 8 pm and they stayed open til 9:20 pm to allow us to eat without racing through our meal. Margaritas were delicious and the chicken mole was wonderful. I heard from others that the tacos were delicious as was the chile relleno. With so many Mexican food restaurants in this town, this is just another average beans and rice place. A friend wanted to eat lunch here on a recent visit, even after my suggestion of a better locale not far from here. My lunch did not prove to be anything beyond just average Tex-Mex, nothing new or original about the food here. It's not bad and surely not great, just average. And for this town average Mexican food is not worth the effort . My tacos were okay the shredded chicken bland and the refried beans and rice tasted like they had been sitting all day. The beer was cold, and the chips (stale) and salsa just average. There are a lot of better options in this town for this type of food. Valley Azteca is the best Mexican restaurant in Humboldt. My favorite is the Green Buritto with Carney Assad, an their baby tacos with toung, or tinga. They treat everyone like family. I have family that lives in Idaho an when they come to visit they have to stop here. read more
