This quaint little restaurant was busy and constantly flowing with people. They can accommodate parties of two and they had tables of 8 or so! The food was unique with hints of Asian influence but there are some very French things as well. We ordered way too much for two people so I definitely recommend one main, and only 3 or so small plates to share. The pork chop was really tender and my favorite thing we had as well as the burrata. I had brunch at Valley on a Saturday in late June with my two adult daughters. We had visited Sonoma Square a day earlier and we had noted Valley and wanted to check it out. The physical space is larger than it looks. The main seating area is on a covered patio in the back of the restaurant. We were promptly shown to our table and looked at the interesting menu, which has an eclectic mix of French and Spanish (I think!) dishes. We started with drinks, including a latte, an espresso and tonic, and a chai. All very good. We decided to order the French toast for the table and it was delicious. For our mains two of us ordered the chilaquiles and the other the Valley Mezze. Everything was very good and satisfying. The service was prompt, friendly and efficient. Nestled in the historic downtown Sonoma Square, Valley has a sleek appearance, esthetically pleasing decor with semi-open kitchen concept, and exceptional waitstaff. Farm to table menu changes slightly depending on season and what is available. 4-5 items were recommended for a party of 3 and that all dishes were complementary of each-other (unfortunately that was not our experience based on it in the photo- flavors were poppin but each dish was vastly different flare culturally). Really appreciated that they are very allergy considerate as the host was aware, who let the server know, and the server confirmed with our table- love close loop communication. Stopped by twice during our Sonoma trip! Once for pastries in the afternoon and again for a quick breakfast before driving home. We got there a bit too early for the weekend brunch patio service (in the back - dog friendly!), so we sat out front with our dog instead. Shared the yogurt bowl and classic breakfast plate. The granola was the highlight! I think they make it in-house, and paired really nicely with the Straus yogurt, kiwi, and peaches. I got a glass of white wine and ordered a chicken salad sandwich. The bun was softer than I expected and was a bit sweet almost like a brioche bun. We loved Valley for brunch! The backyard patio is covered with many tables and benches for dining. Kid friendly and dog friendly. We shared the cold sesame-peanut noodles with spicy tofu and CA crispy rice with Dungeness crab and avocado. 10/10 for both!!!! Sesame peanut noodles were perfect without being too heavy, tofu seasoning was mildly spicy. Fresh cucumbers and colorful cherry tomatoes kept the dish tasting light. The crispy rice with its outer crunchiness and inner softness reminded me of one of my fav childhood crispy rice (Ci Gao) breakfast treats in my hometown in China. The Dungeness crab over the rice was a very decent portion and the combo with the creamy avocado and freshness of the micro greens and cucumbers made this plate my personal favorite. Perfect with my glass of the CA chenin blanc :) Excited to come back again the next time I'm back in Sonoma. read more

Valley has been a big hit since day one. The cozy setting can be a bit loud at times indoors, but the outdoor patio is a nice option. We have had excellent meals here and assistance with wine pairings has always been spot on. As locals, it's nice to come in midweek for drinks and small plates at the bar when it's not too busy. Probably more than any other place in the plaza, Valley has a very welcoming vibe and we seem to always meet other nice people there while dining. Highly recommend for lunch and dinner, never tried the brunch yet although I hear that is very popular. read more

We ventured in one night recently - I somehow didn't connect the dots that this was the same owners as Valley Swim bar, which we've been to a few times, until the end of the meal. We sat in the heated patio - it was a little chilly - but I was at first impressed by the menu. It looked so good and inventive and I joked that I felt I could make a meal of all of the sides. The only thing I'd say is I did have to guess how to order as far as portion size. It looked to be split up by snacks apps, entrees and side and shareable but I think we did over order. There were three of us and we chose 2 apps, 2 entrees and two sides - or what I thought were those "plates". Dungeness Crab roll - like a lobster roll. My partner loved it - I'm just such an east coaster I prefer blue crab. Burrata with nettle pesto - pretty yum. Liked the idea of the nettle pesto - totally unique Pork chop - this was delish. Perfectly cooked and the accompaniment hit all the marks. Mandarin slaw and a type of chimichurri Roasted chicken was good with a green tahini sauce Carrots and a type of spring onion as a side. I loved the carrots. Service was good, although I think they might have been a bit busy for the amount of people on the floor. Interesting wine list. The morning spot in Downtown Sonoma to grab a quick breakfast! Stopped by right at opening and already had six people in line! Valley is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I ordered their Bodega Egg & Cheese Breakfast Sandwich and opted to add the bacon. I asked for the bacon crispy which they said it normally comes that way; it was not and was definitely very fatty. The ingredients were super fresh but sandwich is messy with the egg is fried. Also, there is siracha on the sandwich which wasn't listed. If you aren't a fan of spice, I'd ask for it without. I also ordered the Dona Rose Cardamom Chai as a Latte which they said they could do but then gave me a regular latte. I was able to try my husband's Chai and it had great flavor! We had a reservation for 7:30pm but came around 5:30pm to ask if they had any openings and luckily they did. The restaurant is an intimate setting and the tables had small plants and real candles to set the mood. Since Chinese New Year is around the corner, their menu had some Chinese inspired flavors. Dan Dan noodles had a good amount of meat with noodles but were too peppery for my liking and overpowered the other flavors in the dish. The black cod with leeks and ginger was delicious, the fish was buttery smooth and the ginger and sauce went well with it. The server recommended the sticky rice to pair with the cod which was a good call even though it wasn't like traditional sticky rice. Although the portions were small given the price, the dishes were tasty. For dessert, we tried the olive oil cake with sour cream and preserves and it was nice sweet treat to end the meal. Server checked in on us multiple times and refilled our water but took our dishes without asking if we were done. What a cool little lunch spot! They also offer brunch and dinner, but we went for lunch on a weekday as while their menu is very limited for lunch, they still had items we loved. Their special was a panko breaded chicken breast over a salad with ranch and it was really tasty. Their hippie salad is very popular, as we saw many tables (including ours) with it. The staff was friendly and the setting is quaint and nice. We sat in their outside, back patio area, it was quite large and shaded, so we were comfy. We enjoyed an absolutely spectacular meal here. We started with the fried artichoke and sauce that was perfectly fried and served in nice sized bites. The Halibut fish with ginger and leek matchsticks atop and a vinegar based sauce underneath was so very unusual and absolutely delicious. The fish was so tender and moist. I'd heard great things about Valley from locals. I cancelled a dinner reservation at another restaurant to come here on a Saturday night. I found the restaurant charming and the staff polite, engaging and friendly. On the other had the food was disappointing. We started off with the onion rings which we both enjoyed. Perfectly seasoned, crunchy and not oily. Then the lamb dumplings. We didn't care for the flavor and they were way TOO SALTY. Those were followed by the ginger-scallion noodles, we added crab. This dish was under seasoned. The crab helped. The ratio between noodles and scallions was off. There were too many scallions. Then came the beef and broccoli. Once again too salty, although the flavor was good. I got an olive oil cake to go, and the cake itself was delicious. The accompanying sauces were savory. It's a cute place but the menu is very small. The one thing I wanted was the salad, however the chef refused to let me have the dressing on the side. Salad is my go to order whenever I'm at restaurants and I've never once been told they can't put the dressing on the side. This chef must have some ego. Interesting spot on the square in Sonoma for lunch. Small and unusual menu. Hard to picture what you will actually get by reading the menu but the waiter was very nice about explaining the dishes. My husband got the hippie salad with chicken and enjoyed it. Chicken was moist snd tender. But it was served in a much too small bowl , spilling out on the table. Ask for another plate and you'll be fine. My friend got two eggs over lentils and she liked it a lot. Not my type but she was happy. Had one of the best prix-fixed meals I have had in a long time. Visiting food influencer Steph Whitaker presented a five course Neapolitan dinner. Every course was a winner. The trout roe was overly fishy, which maybe I was just not a fan of, never had it before. The pork chop was delicious but the vegetables sides were all pickled and way too salty. There was celery in the mix which is all water, which means it was all vinegar for this dish. Overwhelming taste that was mellowed slightly by the sauce but it was just too much. We came here three times out of four days. The food here is out of this world good! FRESH, flavorful, healthy. The sauces are to die for and what makes the dishes. The outside covered patio in the back has a cute vibe and ambience. The staff is friendly. The wine is good. We truly enjoyed everything. The meals sound simple but they are so delicious. We came for lunch too and it was just as good. You won't regret coming here. The salad is so refreshing and good. I can drink that dressing. Went here for dinner, and although it was part of a private event, everything we had to my knowledge is also on the regular menu. Bottom line is I can't think of a single dish I didn't absolutely love. The standouts for me were the halibut, the trout, and the coconut braised beef. But what was most surprising, in the best way possible, were the anchovies, which were served in oil and tasted just perfect spread over the light crusty bread. Others at my table also raved about the green garlic dip with crudités, which hit the spot. It seemed like the dishes all had one thing in common -- farm to table, fresh, simple, flavorful N. California cuisine -- but they combined a variety of influences from French to Latin to Vietnamese. My favorite breakfast spot in Sonoma. I would love to come back and try their dinner as well. They have indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a covered back patio with heaters. It looks really cozy back there. We were just here for breakfast and sat inside. It's order at the counter and then they bring you your order. I had a delicious chai latte, yogurt with granola and fresh fruit as well as a bagel. Everything was delicious. They use quality ingredients and have excellent presentations. Very food-loving vibes and that's always a treat at a restaurant. These folks love food and do it well. The inside is a little noisy and hoppin with good vibes as well. We wanted to like Valley, we really did. But the food was just so disappointing, especially at the price point. Interesting restaurant concept that seemingly appeals to the locals, but poor execution. My husband and I went to Valley for dinner on Saturday night and sat outside at the outdoor patio. The good: Ambience was fairly casual, which we liked. Service was friendly, their wine list was a bit eclectic for the area, and our server (Ben) had some good wine recommendations. I enjoyed the Grenache/gamay blend. The bad: Food was just poorly conceived, executed and/or uninspired. It all sounded good on paper, but was just disappointing when eaten. What we ordered: * XO egg ($5) - just a hard boiled egg with XO sauce heaped on top. The XO sauce wasn't particularly exciting - lacking the umami that it usually should have - and tasted a bit more like blander chili crisp. Fine but not great. * Bread and butter ($8) - good enough, but I haven't often met bread and butter I haven't liked. Would've been amazing if the bread was warm and/or had something more to it and if the butter had a bit more sea salt sprinkled on. * Black cod ($38) - the most disappointing dish of the night. The fish cook was great; in my estimate a decent ~7oz piece. However, the fish was underseasoned and the sauce it sat on was just strange. Combining tomato, curry and corn perhaps sounded good in theory on Top Chef but it did not work here. The sauce was weirdly sweet but with an overly heavy curry flavor, topped with what seemed to be frozen sweet corn kernels. The dish needed some more savory elements to balance it out plus maybe some color and texture (instead of the corn). * Greek lamb ($38) - a sizable chunk of braised lamb. With feta and tomatoes, the flavor of this was better than the black cod, but honestly nothing special. Also, they piled the dish high with aromatics like parsley, mint, pickled shallots, and other herbs and it tended to overwhelm the lamb. We didn't even bother with dessert since we were so underwhelmed, and decided to just go elsewhere for a nightcap. Sadly there's much better food in the area so we'll likely not be back. read more

We had a really bad experience at the Valley tonight. The service was off from the moment we walked in, and the food was not as good as expected. The host made everyone wait a long time to be seated with no explanation. Our plates weren't removed in the usual manner, and food was plunked down with no comment. Despite our main server being cheerful, the rest of the service was borderline hostile. Worst of all, the food wasn't good at all. The chicken tasted freezer burned, and the halibut crudo was not fresh. We were really surprised given two friends have recommended it. I would pass on this place. read more

The cutest, eclectic natural wine bar right in the heart of Sonoma's plaza. I loved the variety and unique quality to all their wines. We tried the Beaujolais, orange wine, and the Son of Man cider and it was all fantastic, tasted great and had funky, tangier twists and flavors than just any boring old wine bar.
