Schnitzel
Sean J.

It had been awhile since we had gone out in the Sonoma Square and the Plaza Bistro was the only place that had openings. It was still quite warm outside in the evening, so we sat inside with the AC. Our waiter gave us some time to peruse the menu before ordering. For starters we got the fried calamari and the caprese salad. The breading for the calamari was a little thick, however the sauce was delicious. The caprese salad was chilled and no complaints. For mains, we got the Schnitzel, Seared Scallops, and Chicken Picatta. The schnitzel was fried in the same oil as the calamari, so the seafood flavor came out. The meat was tender and the mushroom sauce was amazing. The scallops were a tad overcooked so they were a little chewy. The chicken picatta was the best dish, with a lovely sauce, but the mashed potatoes could have used some salt. This was a good restaurant for tourists coming in town and may need a meal after a few winery tastings, but there are better options for food on the Square for locals. Hopefully this was an off night for the kitchen.

Expertly prepared char burger with all the right trimmings and fries.

Schnitzel the last time wasn't as good. More bland sauce. Spaetzle over done. Chicken battered and not totally cooked through had a mealy mouthfeel instead of crispy. 5 out of 10. So much potential for true greatness when it's done well. I've gained enough confidence that I would come back. I will send it back next time if it's a repeat performance.

Rude owner/Manager. They don't accommodate people with disability

I came here with friends and one of them has a service dog. As soon as we arrived, we were approached by the owner saying " you can't bring the dog and asked for id". We told him that he was not supposed to ask for an id". He rudely disagreed. They charge $5 for a soft drink with lots of ice with no refills. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Flies flying all over our food as they had the front door wide open so they don't have to turn on their AC.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] On top of it they charge an admin fee . I asked what this was for? They said it was for cc fee. I would not recommend this place to anyone Not worth it Please see the pic of my spaghetti . It was more like soup than spaghetti. Very little spaghetti with lots of sauce. The owner is very greedy and do not care about anything other than his pocket

The food was unbelievably delicious for a Bistro. I was amazingly surprised by the menu and options for any palette. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is Italian cafe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Thank you for the sweet and honest service.

Steak and mashed potatoes with green beans.

Our server was amazing! She was very attentive and constantly checked in on us. She also gave suggestions that were honest. Place is mellow, we sat outside, nice vice of the park. The food was pretty good and decently priced. I wish I would've tried more of the foods. I got the steak, and it was a good size and surprisingly good, loved the sauce. Oh get the bruschetta, pretty good as well. I'd probably come back again to try new items. Definitely cool little spot, recommend going here and giving it a chance.

When I asked our guide for a recommendation, he suggested making a reservation here. My mom and I, as well as another party of two from our tour, booked as such, while the rest went elsewhere. It was the day before my birthday, so I didn't notate a special occasion in my reservation. I guess OpenTable told them though?? I remain perplexed, but they were soooooo kind and stopped over to ask whose birthday it was. TBH, every last person who worked there was ridiculously friendly and made us feel like we were part of their family. The patio dining area was stellar too. They're known for their homemade gnocchi, so my mom and I both purchased variations. She had it with pomodoro, while I tried it with the white sauce. They were unlike gnocchis I've tried at other spots, and I mean that in a good way. I'm still so bummed I couldn't bring my leftovers with me, because every bite was truly delightful. I'd also be remiss to omit their homemade bread, which was wonderfully flaky and fresh. We didn't order dessert, but they did bring out a berry-themed birthday cake. It was like they knew that was my usual birthday order each year! It surpassed the meal/dessert I had on my actual birthday, and even the presentation was exceptional. I wish I lived closer to California so that I could easily return! Thank you for a top-tier birthday-eve memory!!

Penne Contadina: generous with sausage and an interesting red sauce. Pear? Delizia: Rum-infused sponge cake served with cream. Yes, please Other dishes are fine but not quite there Pesto linguini: wish it had more kick, maybe a little more garlic and some pine nuts. Enjoyed but not crave worthy. Prosciutto & melon: a special. Eh. Nothing stood out. Figs might have been the best item. The food gets a passing grade but the ambience and service drags it down. Perfunctory might be the word. Several Yelpers have commented the attitude comes from the top and that seemed to check out.

We ordered the Caesar salad, meatballs, eggplant parmigiana, sole fish, pappardelle bolognese, capellini pomodoro, ravioli along with bread and two light beers. My wife and I split the Caesar salad and pappardelle bolognese. The pappardelle noodles were sticking together and the bolognese lacked flavor. Another person at the table has the pappardelle and loved it. The eggplant parmigiana got rave reviews as did the other pasta dishes, meatballs and the sole. The light beers we ordered were highly carbonated and we would have preferred a Peroni. The service from our server Fox was great, he was friendly and attentive during our meal service. The food was reasonably priced and the restaurant is a small intimate setting.

The evening kicked off with Oysters on the Half Shell--each one a little oceanic gem--paired with a Champagne Mignonette that whispered sophistication and a Cocktail Sauce that thankfully didn't scream spice. For the main event, I tackled the Cioppino, a seafood stew that felt like a warm hug from the ocean. The Tomato Ragu was rich and comforting, while the Mussels and Clams were so good I half-expected them to thank me for eating them. The Calamari? Eh, not their finest hour. Scallops were impressively plump, but the Crab was playing hard to get. The Prawns, however, were unapologetically large, and the Bruschetta on top was the culinary equivalent of a mic drop. The service and vibe? Perfectly chill, with just the right amount of nostalgia. Honestly, I was amazed this gem of a location is still standing tall. We were able to grab one of the last reservations of the evening, and after the short drive over, we were seated right at our 9:00 reservation time. From the moment we walked in, the hosts were warm and welcoming, and we knew we had made the right decision. One of the managers, Stephen, stopped by our table and welcomed us with complimentary glasses of Prosecco for the birthday celebration, which was such a thoughtful touch. Our server was attentive, friendly, and made sure we were taken care of throughout the evening. We started with the Pasta Fritta con Prosciutto--crispy, rosemary-scented pasta dough wrapped in prosciutto with mascarpone espuma, honey, and Parmigiano Reggiano. It was the perfect balance of savory and sweet. We also shared the Caesar Nero, made with little gem lettuce, black garlic, and Parmigiano crostini, which was fresh and flavorful. For cocktails, we both ordered the Porch Punch. Made with Redwood Empire Pipe Dream 101, yellow peach, oolong tea, lemon, vanilla, and clarified using the milk punch process, it tasted like a refreshing peach tea. The etched ice cubes with wine glasses and utensils were a small detail that made the presentation even more memorable. For our entrées, Face ordered the Salmon Risotto, while I had the Carbonara. The carbonara is topped with an activated charcoal Parmesan tuile, and while it looks dramatic, it doesn't change the flavor at all--it simply adds a beautiful presentation. The pasta was rich, creamy, and absolutely delicious. Bottega didn't just serve us an incredible meal--they rescued what could have been a very disappointing birthday dinner. The hospitality, service, and food were exceptional, and I'd happily make the drive back to Yountville again.
