Former graduate here!! If I can stop even one person from enrolling there children here then that's enough for me. Going here was one of the most traumatizing experiences of my life. I won't go in to detail but from the education, to the way the way they handle discipline for girls verses boys all of it is outdated and disgusting. I wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy to attend this school and any merit it has was done by students INDEPENDENT from the school, not because of the school. I will be unpacking the trauma from this place for a long time so don't subject your children's young minds to this horrific institution. read more

Caring teachers and staff provide the kids with a positive environment to learn and grow.

When reaching out about possibly having my children attend here the response back, though was prompt, was also super demeaning! The volleyball coach was unprofessional and inattentive to responding to my questions. They made it feel as though my children and I were such a bother communicating our interest. If you want caring, compassionate people to work with your children, these people aren't it. read more

This applies only to the High School. And as someone who has gone from pre-school to Senior year, I have seen the school evolve significantly over the past fourteen years. Math: 5/5 Has the most amazing math department you will find in the state. Higher level teachers are passionate about what they teach, and get kids excited about learning math. The teacher's love for their subject sets the classroom environment. The most experienced "mathmagicians" here are worth every ounce of tuition. English: 4/5 Upperclassmen teachers in this field are phenomenal. Junior year classes prepared me for the AP exams excellently and Senior advanced classes stretch the kids in a very intense manner that prepares them so well for college. The only downside is the freshman and sophomore year classes. Didn't learn a whole lot here but got some decent literature in. Science: 3/5 Biology teachers are amazingly friendly and helpful to all students. Regarding other subjects, the teachers are still either young or adjusting to Valley, so their teaching styles are still developing. History: 2/5 Valley has some massive shoes to fill here. A recent retiree and an even more recent departure have left a bunch of younger less-experienced teachers in charge. And while that isn't a bad thing, it just means that the program has a lot of room for development. Religion: 2/5 Other than an excellent Relationships class and a great Catholic Social Teaching course, there is a lot to be desired here, especially for a Catholic school. Kids need to be taught how faith can be applied to everyday life, and they need hands on experience to fully understand Catholicism. Campus Ministry: 2/5 Masses here are underwhelming and the general faith-vibe on campus is at a low point. Changes are coming very soon that will hopefully make it easier for the head of ministry to focus on improving this aspect of the school. Foreign Language:2/5 There is still a lot of work to be done here. The school is down to two languages, having eliminated its once-proud Japanese program. There is also a massive difference from the era when Valley only had native speakers employed. . Physical Education: 5/5 Valley does a good job here. Other schools make P.E. and health a living hell sometimes, but the instructors at Valley are understanding and very helpful to the needs of the students. In addition, the emphasis on CPR and life-saving procedures leaves life-long lessons that have already made a huge difference in the community. Athletics: 5/5 For a 4A school, this is as good as it gets. The support that Valley has given to its teams is very generous. Athletics are the center of the campus community and the players are very well taken care of. Fine Arts: 5/5 You will not find a better set of music teachers anywhere else. Valley is one of the only schools left that has a full orchestra. The band director is an Oregon Music Hall of Fame Inductee and ex-member of the popular group, the Crazy 8's. The choir director is phenomenal, having taken the choir to State competition twice... and he's only been here three years! The Sisters of Saint Mary of Oregon have a proud history of supporting the arts and this is where the school shines. If you are a musician in Beaverton, this is THE school to go to!!! Administration: 1/5 Can be very unresponsive to the needs of students and does not support initiative. Just stay out of trouble and you'll be fine. Change is coming though. Within the next couple of years, an entirely new administration will be put in place. So let's send some prayers up there for the best! :) read more
