We were on a day trip from TN to WV to see some waterfalls and found this restaurant on the way right at the start of lunchtime. We are so happy we did. There's outdoor seating and we walked past it to go inside. It was a cute place with 3 different rooms with tables. The decor was country. My husband and I split one of the day's specials, which was the salmon cakes plus 2 sides. We chose cabbage and green beans. It was all very delicious and plenty to split. We highly recommend this great restaurant! The service was great too! The restaurant was full when we left. It's obviously a favorite for the locals. read more

Went in the restaurant, sat there for 10 minutes. No waitress came to our table. We were in the middle room so we moved to the front room HOPING someone would wait on us. But no, the two girls working went into the middle room and started taking orders from people who had just walked in the door and left us still sitting and waiting. After waiting a total of 20 minutes, we got up and left and my husband decided to go back in and ask what the problem was. One girl actually told him " your wife should have come told one of us that you needed to be waited on." My husband told her "that's YOUR job" Needless to say we will NOT go back there. read more

This is the definition of a little country restaurant. They have daily specials on food and desserts. The decor is country/farm themed. The staff are courteous and respectful. If you want some good stick to my ribs, reminds me of grandma, I'm sick of McDonald's trash, down home country food, eat here. If you want super cheap, plant modified, let's ruin the planet to produce soybeans to feed the cattle kinda meal served by a clown and a mayor who can't catch the Hamburgler; this is not your kind of place. read more

Disclosure - I have not visited this restaurant. This review is to commend them for inspirational behavior that my friend recently witnessed. In which they loaded a humble man with dinners when he was unable to feed his family after being unemployed. In fact, the story was so moving and so perfect, that if I had seen it by 99.9% of the human race, I'd put it down to well-meaning internet prattle. But coming from him, I KNEW it was true. The owners really need some recognition of their good deed and people deserve to know the kind of folks who run the restaurant, but living across the country, ways to do this are limited. If I ever visit my friend in WV, I'll be sure that we eat here at least once. And I'm told that their mac and cheese is the bomb! read more

If you like down home country cooking, this is THE best place in our area. You'll find it in Green Valley on the road running parallel to and between the Airport Road and 460. (The old road up to Hills for those of us old enough to remember Hills.) My fave foods here: Pork Chops; Old Fashioned Cheeseburger; Fried Egg Sandwich. This place is now called Mitchem's Valley Country Restaurant. The new owner took over a few years ago and has brought it back to its former "glory". It is packed with locals almost every night. They serve up country favorites such as fried chicken and hearty spaghetti. The food definitely has a home cooked taste, too much so... if that is possible. Our first experience there and probably our last. I had ordered the steak cooked medium. It was so rare that blood was dripping. The gravy tasted like dish soap. The macoroni was dry. The cole slaw was wonderful. The rolls had a nice flavor, but were dry. The girl came at the end of the meal and got very defensive about the bloody meat even though we never once complained to her. She said she could have fixed that if we would have told her. We basically left hungry and very disappointed. Most of our meals were left sitting. read more

This place has been an institution since I can remember. The mac n cheese is amazing and anything dessert related is always a sure bet. I've always known it was delicious to eat here, but today I learned just how amazing and generous the people who run it are. WOW! The kindness and generosity exhibited by the staff towards someone who could really use a hand up inspired me. Thank you for being good, decent people. Sat there 20 minutes was never offered a menu water or even hello, After watching patrons who entered the restaurant after we had being waited on, We left as if we were invisible no one spoke to us or offered any service. I've been to this restaurant several times now, but this last time I finially got the Loaded Ribbon Fries, amazing. They had chili, cheese and bacon and were served with ranch. Yes, a veritable gut buster. I usually get the BLT with fries, which is standard and always a good. The place has a usual crowed and is for the most part quite busy in the mornings. Overall not a bad experiance for southern West Virginia. read more

We tried this place for breakfast on the recommendation of a friend. The restaurant has a welcoming feel and we were greeted and seated promptly. I had a cheese omelette and my husband had two pancakes and scrambled eggs. The eggs were very fresh tasting (obviously not powdered eggs) and his pancakes were light and fluffy. My omelette was delicious. Our server never let our coffee get less than half empty. The owner came by and chatted with us and thanked us for visiting. We will definitely be back for dinner. This may be the least publicized but most publicity-worthy restaurant in our area. Located out in Green Valley near but across the road from Schewels, Valley Country Restaurant is a great favorite of those who live nearby. VCR features good down-home country cooking. If you want a pork chop that tastes like pork chops should taste, this is the place for you. They also have the best cheeseburgers in town. Another favorite is brown beans with cornbread (and onions, if you like). Be sure to leave room for one of their wonderful desserts. My favorite is a heated slice of their cherry pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. So stop by VCR, and enjoy the country! read more
