Dr Gurdian is a very skilled & thorough doctor. I have extensive issues with my vision from an accident. He carefully tests and monitors my vision, takes time to explain things to me & answers my questions. I travel quite a distance to see him, & will continue because of the time, knowledge and care he devotes to his patients. read more

I'm over it. I've been a patient of Valley Eye & Laser Center since I was a small child. In light of the COVID-19 situation, I asked that I get a small handful of contacts to tie me over until this all blows over, and they refused. They said I HAD to come in for an eye exam before I could get any contacts. I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Not to be trusted! Very disappointed in how they billed me extra for services after I paid in full at the agreed price. When I complained they were dismissive and rude. Dr Jahnke denies responsibility for the actions of the billing department, even though as owner the buck should stop with him. The reviews and complaints are pretty consistent, which means it is a business practice of this office. read more

I was in 5 months ago- called to get new contacts. After multiple calls with no response, I was told I needed to come in for another appointment as they could not find a record of my appointment from just a few months ago. This is not the first time they've been unable to find a recent prescription for myself as well as my daughter- and then they argue as though they never saw you....despite the bill to prove it. Valley Eye will make you return again and again and pay each and every time all for one simple eye exam and contacts. The manager refused to even come out and speak when I had a question that the receptionist couldn't answer. Trust me, you are better off going anywhere else. read more

I booked a visit for an eye exam and contact lense fitting. Normally, the doctor is able to send me away with a trial pair of contacts and I am able to order contacts through them either at that time or later over the phone. Instead, I've had to come in 3 times total, missing work for each visit. Once for the first visit, which was the exam and fitting. A second time to pick up my trail contacts and for them to look at them. And a third time to pick up my contact prescription because they refuse to release my prescription to me until my insurance has covered the cost of the visit. They insist that it's company policy for me to pick up the prescription in person too, as they will not email it. I also do not live in this area full-time and so it will be quite a while until I am able to order contacts again. The doctor is the one who makes these policies and I was told that he refused to make an exception. My experience with this center has been incredibly frustrating, expensive, and time consuming. read more

Dr Jahnke is a wonderful physician. Very knowledgeable and I would gladly go back to him. However... His office staff keeps me from going back. They were very short with me and rude. I may as well not have been checking in. I asked for a printed (not handwritten) receipt detailing the service provided and the amount charged because my FSA card required it. I was told I could pick up the receipt when I picked up my glasses. When I picked it up, they had simply photo copied the hand written prescription and printed the word "receipt" at the top. I reexplained what I needed for the FSA requirements and was treated rudely. I never received a printed receipt for that visit and was never able to file the FSA claim because of it. You would think that a in today's computer age, a printed receipt would be an easy thing to provide. And the lady who helps with picking out and ordering frames? The first time I picked up my glasses she had ordered the wrong Rx and then told me I was wrong when I told her it was wrong. She told me she would rush the reorder, but when I called a week later she yelled at me for expecting them too quickly. When I went to pick up the glasses the second time, I called her to let her know I was coming. When I got there (5 minutes later) she had just left for lunch and would be back in an hour. When she finally came back, she just handed me the glasses and walked away. She didn't fit them to my ears or make sure they were the right Rx. So... Doctor is good. Everyone else is bad. I just had cataract surgery, for both eyes, at Valley Eye & Laser Center. It has been the most positive experience I have ever had, with any medical procedure! I was not able to drive at night and now I have 20/20 vision in both eyes. Dr. Jahnke is the most through , efficient ,considerate physician. His staff is one that every Drs office staff should be like. If you are needing any correction done for your eyes, please consider this eye center. read more

Dr Jahnke is a great doctor. On my last visit he detected that I had a torn retina and made arrangements immediately to get me in that day to a retina specialist. His quick action saved the sight in that eye. He will be my eye doctor forever. read more

Getting lasik was the best decision, and best investment I have ever made. The doctor and staff are so knowledgeable and friendly, I was put right at ease with them. I'm so glad I'll never need glasses or contacts again, but if I did, I would absolutely go back to valley eye and laser. read more

Made an apt for my mom who is in a wheelchair to get her eyes checked for glasses. When we got there because she is a diabetic they wanted to do a medical exam first and asked if she could get out of her wheelchair for a transfer to the equipment which we told them she was not able to. They made an apt for us to come back for the routine eye exam for glasses in a few weeks. This was disappointing because it is so difficult to get my mom around but we accepted the fact we'd have to come back as she couldn't see clearly with her glasses she had on. When we got into their office the first thing they asked was if she could transfer out of the wheelchair to another chair. I said no and that they had asked us that at the last visit. They said then we will not be able to exam your mom unless she can transfer. We had to leave without her being examined for glasses. It would have been nice to know upfront that they couldn't do the routine exam...even before the medical exam we would have chosen another provider. Walmart accommodates people with disabilities in wheelchairs that can't transfer. We didn't want the medical exam but went along with their wishes. It seems like a dr that really cares about all their patients would get equipment without a chair to examine patients eyes for glasses when they can't move themselves to the special chair. No one apologized for the inconvenience or seemed to care about all the trouble they caused. All they asked on the way out was if we could pay for the first visit. Was very disappointed in the visit. Dr Janke is a very nice man and I thought he would have come out and talked to us but he didn't. read more

I wish I could give this place a better review, as it was recommended to me by a very dear friend. Unfortunately, I experienced the staff to be very disorganized and incompetent -- both in terms of administration and customer service. For one thing, I had called ahead of time to make sure they carried my brand of contact lenses before scheduling an appointment for a contact lens fitting. They said that they did, but when I came in for my appointment I was told that they do not in fact have carry that brand of contacts (and never have). I therefore had to come in for another appointment two weeks later (and pay an additional co-pay). For another thing, I was told that my actual contact lens fitting would cost $75 upon check in. Then, when I went to check out I was told that the visit would actually cost $125 due to the brand of contact lenses that I wear. Lastly, the receptionist was so dismissive and patronizing to me that I left feeling incredibly demoralized. On a brighter note, I will say that this experience has really made me appreciate finding a quality service provider that you can trust and I'm hopeful that there's got to be one in Newberg :) read more

What can we say - we have been with the Jahnke family since it was under Jonathan's Dad, Paul. We would not go anywhere else even though we live in Hebo on the Oregon Coast. Jonathan saved our sons vision with surgery and has been the best for My wife and I for all these years. The staff is so friendly and it is a joy to enter the door and be greeted so well. We like to see the Doctor as he explains everything so well and if there is some possible concern, he just says do not worry as "I will keep and 'eye' on it and will let you know when we need to do something". What more do you want from a medical person and his personnel. read more
