This office has changed significantly since their senior optometrist has retired. The office feels tense as the front office staff women mostly dress in very unprofessional, uncomfortable clothing. I didn't enjoy hearing one of the eye doctors argue with one of the office staff in front of all the people in the waiting area. Was glad to see that they hired a woman optometrist. This office could go either way in the future. I hope they get rid of the high heels and tight skirts up front. Not comfortable or professional. read more

I was very disappointed with the service and attitude here! They took over 3 months to get me my new glasses, due to a couple of errors and backlog, and did not expedite as I requested. While some of the staff were more friendly and responsive. Alan the optician in particular seemed very disinterested, and had poor customer service orientation. When I told him it had taken that long, her said, "well, you have them now"! I do not recommend them, and will not be going back. read more

$231 for a routine exam? Are you kidding me? And then ditching me to wait in an exam room midway through for 20 minutes? The staff were nice and professional, but they all seemed rushed and its much too expensive. Better off going to Corvallis Vision center downtown, they are cheaper and just as nice even if they do seem a little behind the times. read more

The two times I went here, one of the male salesmen kept trying to get me to get "special lenses" that cost around $500. I asked for quotes without the upgrades, and he gave me values that were lower than the actual billing price. He is pretty forceful in trying to get you to spend too much money. Dr. Young has been great, taking care of my, and my kids eyes, contacts and glasses for several years. He pays attention to the details, like what activities they're doing, or what meds you're on that may impact your vision or eye health. Optometry is a little less attentive. I've gotten two pairs of glasses there that the ear piece is too short. Wish they and I had paid more attention to fitting, but its minor. Definitely recommend. read more

HORRIBLE! NEVER GO HERE. Staff is incompetent and the doctor that I did see (Robert Young) had NO patience with me and was always 20+ minutes late to see me. I have had to reschedule appointments just because they are running so late. ON TOP OF THAT, THEY ARE KNOWINGLY RIPPING PEOPLE OFF. It's all about the money for them! I liked my trial lenses of Acuvue Oasis so I proceeded to go through with ordering a year supply. When I went to pick them up, they only had four boxes which I knew from prior research on these lenses that four boxes are ONLY good for a 6 months as these lenses are supposed to be changed once every two weeks! Thank god I did my research online to find how out how often to change them out. When I made note of this fact to the lens "technician" she proceeded to tell me to "just clean them" so I can extend their wear for a month making my four boxes last, but the fact is that I PAID FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR! WHAT PROFESSIONAL MEDICAL OFFICE WOULD TELL THEIR PATIENTS TO IGNORE THE LENS INSTRUCTIONS?! When I called them to see how to go about getting a refund, the staff (Brittany) hung up on me and didn't even offer to make things right and give me the other four boxes to make a real years perscription. HORRIBLE PEOPLE. Please save yourself the trouble of refunds with your insurance company and any out of pocket costs and stay away from this place! read more

They have expanded during that time and we've had the opportunity to work with a couple different doctors and several assistants and opticians as well as the office staff. We have always been treated as valued customers from the youngest kiddos on up. They are helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. My most recent glasses were ready for pick up within 2 weeks. We went here +5 years and I couldn't tell you why. Most recently they were running +20 minutes for our last 2 appointments (our family of 4 USED to go here). No apology or even warning that they're so behind (1 appointment was with 2 small kids-NOT FUN). I asked an employee if they were competitively priced for contacts-she assured me they were-come to find out they're priced $10/box above average, $13/box more than Costco!!!! I feel stupid for going here as long as I did, and don't recommend them to anyone. Don't waste your time or $ here, because they genuinely don't care either way. read more

This is the first business that I have ever felt so passionately about to bother reviewing. tl;dr I felt like a customer, not a patient. The front office staff were unhelpful, frustrating, and repeatedly messed up on requests/orders. The opticians seem to be incompetent for the most part. Ultimately, I will be finding a new optometrist. Please save your money and sanity and just go to Costco, they are perfect little angels. The doctors are, overall, worth your time. I've seen Dr. Hale about 4 times now over a span of 6 months. They have very up-to-date technology (that you pay extra for) and are very thorough with their exams. Dr. Hale has pressured me to order contacts on the last 2 visits, after multiple conversations about how I can try as many trial pairs as I need to, which was very frustrating. The real issue is everyone else. Their support staff and opticians are a nightmare. Let me break it down: 1. Every single appointment I've made with them (whether it was early in the morning or closing time) has left me waiting in the waiting room. I don't understand how an office with so many employees can consistently be behind schedule to such an extreme. 2. For trial contacts, they will charge you an extra $100 for a service that every other optometrist I have been to offered for free. That service is the process of trying out new brands of contacts to find the most comfortable pair. On my first visit, the doctor told me he would void a $35 fee since I would be purchasing the $100 service to find a pair of contacts that I liked. I was extremely confused at what the difference was between these two fees and what they covered. Neither the doctor or the front office ladies would give me a clear definition of what I was actually paying for. I felt extremely pressured into purchasing the $100 service because I felt like I didn't really have a choice and like he had already charged me the $100 for future appointments. 3. I had my new frames adjusted by the opticians, which was the worst decision ever. The first woman I had (who I believe is the manager of the dept.) was wonderful and gently adjusted the glasses to her best abilities. However, after a few days I realized they weren't quite perfect so I brought them in again. The second woman who adjusted them completely distorted the frame! I was very specific with what I wanted adjusted (just a tiny bit more bend on only one side of the frame) and she just had absolutely NO idea what she was doing. The glasses were so messed up at one point that they got STUCK on my head! I could barely get them off. She also caused permanent damage to the frame by hurting the plastic casing on the ends of the ear pieces. I was so frustrated with her incompetence that I had to leave and come back another time. The third person that helped me, a man, was no different. He could not adjust my glasses well and didn't seem to know what he was doing either. I showed him the damage that the previous woman had caused and explained how the frames had fit almost perfectly at one point and now I can't seem to get them to stay on my head and his response was: "Well you might just have to order a new pair." I'm sorry, what!? You damage my frames and then tell me that I should just pay for a new pair? Terrible, terrible service. 4. The first trial lenses I ordered were supposed to arrive in 2 weeks. After the first 2 weeks, I called and asked about them. Turns out, they had never been ordered. It took them a month to get me a single trial pair. Based on other reviews on Yelp.com, it looks like this happens quite frequently. 5. When questioning the front office staff about billing or clarification, they seem to have the same, memorized responses. None of them were able to answer or even clearly address my concerns/questions which was incredibly frustrating. And even when I asked different questions, they would respond with the same answer. To this day I still have no idea if they even offer refunds. 6. On two different accounts, the front office failed to send/fax over paperwork to another office. I had to call them twice to remind them to send the papers over. read more

I received a call reminding me of my upcoming appt., they checked my insurance benefits before I arrived, the exam was one of the most complete I've ever had (Dr. Hale), and the time I spent with the optician ( Michael) was extremely informative and precise. I left feeling that this small community is lucky to have Valley Eye Care. Valley Eye Care is great! Making an appointment was quick and easy. The front-desk staff members were professional and very welcoming. Dr. Maureen Arthurs, OD was outstanding. She explained the exam in a direct, informative manner and was responsive to my questions. Additionally, she was understanding about my desire to limit tests, when not needed. The additional charge for the eye reflaction (name?) was well worth seeing for the rest of the morning. Finally, Bobbie is fantastic at helping select affordable and attractive frames. Dr. James Hale is a great doctor and made me feel so taken care of! I had LASIK done and he coordinated everything with the surgery center saving me multiple trips to Portland! He answered all my questions fully and in language I could understand, always making me feel like my questions and care were the most important thing in his day! I stopped in to see if they could help me with my sunglasses missing a screw. They were not expensive glasses. The gal said yeah OK, and took them back and replaced the screw and came back and said here you go, that'll be $10. If I'd known it was $10 I probably would've said no thanks (they were maybe $20-30, but I liked them). As I left I wondered, did she check the other screws for me, that they were tight? Two days later on the other side, the screw fell out, and then the whole lens. Waste of my time and money to stop here. read more

i just love it here. i came from two other eye docs who were good but horrible staff. here they are wonderful staff seems to like working with each other.DR HALL is so good. i am losing eyesight in left eye , he has been supportive and really knows his stuff. they are extremely busy BUT doesnt feel like that. i am in wheelchair and can trnfer to regular chair. the stff moved the large chair away and did assesments in my own wheelchair , brilliant never had that before. i love it thanks to staff read more

We've been patients of Valley Eye Care since we moved to Corvallis in 1992. I recently retired and my vision insurance expired. I asked if there could be a discount since I wouldn't have insurance. The answer was a simple - NO. I scratched my classes and needed new lenses. It took me three attempts and three weeks to get my prescription to get another estimate. Valley Eye Care - $283. Costco -$127. Every time I got glasses with insurance it would cost me about $150. I now realize they are nearly double charging for their services. read more

Absolutely awful. It took me three months to finally get my contacts prescription (I had to come in three times to ask for it) and it was incorrect. They also didn't tell me beforehand about the eye dilation during the routine exam: you either have to get your eyes dilated (covered by insurance) or pay out of pocket for the scanner ($37). I went here to get an eye exam for contact lenses and glasses. They have equipment that seems new and efficient, and they give you the option to take Optimax(?) pictures of your eye instead of having to dilate it. Dilating is a painful and uncomfortable experience, so it's great that they give a alternative to the process. I've never been offered such an alternative anywhere else. The staff is very friendly. There was a little bit of a wait, but nothing unheard of. We were told it would be about an hour of a visit, but it ended up taking more like 2 hours. Again, it wasn't so bad - there were a lot of people there that day, so I feel like they did the best they could given how many people were there. I tried on glasses frames as I waited. There were a large selection of frames, but they all seemed to be pretty expensive. I would love to see some more budget options. I will probably try to find my glasses frames somewhere else that offers better price options. Overall, a great visit, and a very thorough, friendly exam. read more
