They give a lot of lobster but I just wanted a lobster roll. Previous reviews mentioned $25 for them. Iwas stupid and didn't ask the price beforehand. Service was good, not great I really needed cherry stones and I saw they had them stated online, so I drove a little bit to get here and they did not have them Other shellfish was quite pricey, but the quality looked good I ended up buying 10 little neck clams at $.79 each, and 3 pounds of mussels. We went to Valley Fish for two specific reasons: 1) We want to work more fish into our diet, so we wanted to use our air fryer to make some fish fillets which we needed to buy. 2) We saw that Valley Fish's website listed some outrageous good looking "Valley Fish To Go" items like "Grilled Faroe Island Salmon with a Maple Bourbon Glaze" for $11. We asked the counter folks what fish would best for fish and chips, and both suggested Cod. We ordered a gorgeous slab of Cod that weighed about a pound and a quarter and cost us a little over $20, so I'm guessing it cost around $16 per pound. We cut it into eight pieces, dressed it in panko and eggs, then popped it into the air fryer. Let me tell you, the fish came out GREAT. Now $16 a pound is pricey, and we all know you can do better out there in the marketplace, but I have to say the quality was great- super meaty without one milligram of waste. Now as for the "Valley Fish To Go", we expected to see a showcase or refrigerated case or a freezer case filled with these entrees to go. But there were none, and when we asked about the "Grilled Faroe Island Salmon with a Maple Bourbon Glaze" we hoped to pick up, we were told that it isn't stocked and in fact you have to order that in advance. If that's the case -fine, I understand, but there is no reference to that process anywhere on the website. I think that should have been clarified on their web page. I stopped in on my lunch break reading that they had lobster rolls and soups. This wasn't listed anywhere where. From there it got odd. I asked if they served cooked food and a woman said they do not while a man was cooking in the background. I was then informed I couldn't eat there which was never a question and there was no space to eat there. It was very uncomfortable. I then asked if they had sandwiches and I was told they do not. I specifically had to ask this unhelpful woman if they had lobster rolls and she said they're 25 dollars. Okkkkk. I can't believe I've driven past this place so many times over the years and it never dawned on me to stop in. This year's Easter dinner was a seafood menu, and I wanted only fresh, so I headed here. The other customers were exchanging friendly banter with the staff, who obviously really knew their stuff; there was a small-town cheerfulness to the place, which I dug. The gentleman who helped me made helpful suggestions, even tossed in a little extra for free, and I left grinning like an idiot carrying fresh salmon and sea scallops. These were the best scallops I have ever had. The table went silent. Tender and satin-y, buttery and just... yeah. Awesome. The salmon, too, was the best I have ever cooked - in truth I typically don't spring for fresh fish of this quality - and the whole meal felt truly special. This place is amazing. They have the freshest available fish and seafood, trucked in daily from Boston. Best cocktail shrimp anywhere. Also, since they also have a catering business, their marinades are stupendous. I especially love the striped bass when in season as well as the Norwegian salmon and arctic char. They also have very flavorful crab cakes without all the usual overabundance of filler, just heat and eat. They have New England Chowder that is very good too. We have been very pleased with the quality of fish and shellfish here for the past six or seven years. We first made the trip (27 miles round trip) after the fish markets we relied on for many years in Springfield and Westfield closed. Tucker's Restaurant in Southwick always has excellent seafood and we asked them where their supplies came from. They referred us to Valley Fish. There are times when I wished they had a little more variety, But they know their market and what will insure the best turnover. Their house made crab cakes are excellent. Be sure to ask for extra tartar sauce! We have had splendid wild salmon, tuna, sole, sword fish, scallops, shrimp and haddock from this market. I am sorry the last reviewer had such a bad experience. In fifty years of extensive traveling, I have had two very unpleasant experiences with raw shellfish in respectable restaurants in France and Italy and can understand why he would be so angry. Of course, I have had thousands of of splendid meals. It can happen most anywhere. I don't believe "Shane's" experience is a common experience with this merchant.
