I thought I'd stop in here right when they advertised opening at 11am. On a Friday. Apparently, they were already open and VERY busy. Available parking is pretty sparse, be prepared to either wait or park on the grass. Customers all over the place, the shop is very small. Folks in line out the door. They have a nice little prepared foods fridge and a small freezer with assorted items. After a short wait I made it to the seafood case. Bob the owner was extremely polite and very helpful, offering help and suggestions for my selections. I picked up large sea scallops, ahi tuna, Scottish salmon, blue crab salad and some smoked salmon. All very tasty and as fresh as it gets unless you catch it yourself. But, be prepared to pay a premium price for any seafood bought from Cold Harbor. The nice lady at the register noticed that I was a Veteran and said they give a 15% Veterans discount on some, not all items with proof of service. VFW card, VA medical card, etc. which was awesome and made my overall experience even better! Bottom line is I'll be back to Cold Harbor for all my seafood needs. The lobster roll with butter is good but not as good as the reviews, I am from Maine, might have a bit higher expectations. The cheaper crab roll was actually better but I need to compare with the cold lobster roll next time. There's lot of meat in the lobster roll thou. I also tried the crab chowder soup, highly recommended by the staff there but it was a total let down. I can see some crab meat but I can't taste any, it was utterly dominated by the taste of corns. Next time, I'll review the clam chowder instead. read more

Most of the time you will find good fresh fish at cold Harbor. However, I have bought seafood in the store that has not been good. Also, be prepared for incredibly high prices. The prices are more than any other place that you will find fish. One other downside is interacting with one of the owners. It is a husband and wife team. The wife could not be more rude, snippy and curse with the customers. She acts as if she's doing you a favor by buying their overpriced fish. Her personality is enough that times that if I want fish and go there, I dread seeing her at the checkout counter. read more

This is worth the drive off of the highway. During the summer, when we visited on our way back to North Carolina, we made the detour, and still, eight months later, talk about how good this place is- hence the late review. Anything less than five stars isn't realistic for this amazing little seafood market. I've been going since they first opened and it has, by far, the best, freshest and widest selection of seafood anywhere near here. The owners are the friendliest, most accommodating folk you'll find and anyone I know who's shopped there have all become regulars. It's not a full service restaurant but it's welcoming and usually packed with happy returning customers. Maybe I should tone it down so there will be some left for me next visit. I came here twice already, first I bought 3 New Zealand salmon filets, 5 mackerel and crab salad spent almost $50. I asked if they can season the salmon with some dry rub they have and they obliged. My husband said the salmon was delicious and tender ( I seared them). Crab salad was great with fresh greens. The mackerel I baked also good. My second visit was for the lobster roll I paid 13.95. It was worth it, yummy and lots of lobster meat comes with a bottled water and bag of chips. I also bought crab cakes $8.95 for 2 cakes decent size. I have yet to taste it. I will update you later. I stopped by this morning on the recommendation of a friend because I was mentioning driving past this shop. I wanted some scallops for dinner. I bought the scallops and tuna steaks because they looked awesome. The young lady behind the counter also showed me they had grab and go foods. While driving here you can feel like you're in the completely wrong area because it feels like a residential neighborhood. Don't worry, you're headed in the right direction. You'll see the sign outside and it looks like a repurposed house. There's a big parking lot but no seating if you want to dine in. So if you want to eat then and there be prepared to eat in your car. The lady working the counter said they get fresh shipments of seafood every day so I have to believe that it's pretty fresh here. I ordered a pesto shrimp special as well as two lobster rolls. The hot lobster rolls were pretty reasonably priced at $14(? If I recall correctly) and relatively generous. They heated the lobster on the spot. They have some rotating specials but lobster rolls are a permanent fixture on their menu. The first roll I had was delicious and exactly what I wanted. Second one was a little chewy and rubbery. Their cocktail sauce is really good if you like horseradish - it's pretty heavy with it. Their prepared stuff is really good - in addition to the tacos and lobster rolls, they have shrimp tacos (really good), crab cakes and some others.
