Visited for the first time for our anniversary dinner recently. I've been by this spot many times, but never for a meal, so I was eager to try it out, especially since I LOVE this park and the scenery. We were quickly seated. Staff here were helpful, but throughout our meal frankly felt a bit chaotic. We weren't seen the first time for a while, and had someone come to us to tell us that someone would serve us soon, and then throughout the wait staff assigned to us was pretty frenzied and apologized several times. Appreciate the candor, but not a very put together experience from the staff here, even though it seems like the amount of traffic here was not close to packed. Food though was delicious. Would have liked a bit more given the price tag, but enjoyable for the dishes. I guess you pay for the scenery here. Overall, would not be high up on the list for places I'd really go out of my way to go to. A good experience if you make it out here! Hopefully the wait staff can get some more composure and experience though. read more

If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and to enjoy the beautiful Fairmount Park, I highly recommend this restaurant. A beautiful and clean stream with clear water and a lot of ducks is welcoming you at the parking lot. You can enjoy a a beautiful scenery and nature before heading to the restaurant. Staff is welcoming and friendly. Outside seatings are perfect to enjoy a beautiful day. However, be careful with an annoying flying bee. Appetizers: hummus with pita and wings. Hummus is light with pickled onions and balsamic served with pita already cut is triangle shape. Interesting combination but works well. Wings are not dry, I wish there's more sauces. I had ahi tuna salad special. Beautiful colorful plating, perfectly seared tuna : medium rare. Desserts: lava cake, tiramisu, and cheesecake. All of them are delicious. My decaf coffee is also perfect, not weak at all. read more

From the Ahi Tuna Ponzu appetizer to the excellent Korean short ribs for my husband and crabcakes for me, we were very satisfied with our meal. The wine was also quite good, though the stemware could perhaps use an update. Desserts were good but not that memorable. The affogato was our favorite. Genuinely one of the worst dining experiences ive ever had. Littered trash & gravel parking greets you after the pothole road in. I've been eating at the Inn for 50+ years. I grew up on Wissahickon Ave and we could actually walk on a path that lead there. The food definitely isn't what it used to be. I was last there a week ago. - My daughter's food never came out - we weren't asked if we wanted refills on our drinks- mind you, it was hot and we were outside under that tent! - My son ordered an appetizer salad, which didn't arrive until after his entree. - The cheese plate comes with 3 crackers? - Just too many issues!!! I have been to wissahickon probably a 100+ times but this was my first time eating at Valley Green Inn. This restaurant is set right in the middle of a scenic, historic park, which gives you a beautiful view but possibly difficult parking for those who do not frequent this area. When you step in, you must remember you are stepping into a building that is hundreds of years old - don't expect anything modern, spacious, updated, or luxurious. The food itself was quite good, above what we expected in an establishment that looked like this. However, the service was below our expectations. The host in the front was curt, and service was slow, even when there were hardly any customers. Plus, our server was wearing a dirty hoodie and sweating his face off. Though he was kind, he would wipe his sweat with his hands, and serve our food/drinks with those same hands, which was super unappealing. With the food and location being on their side, I sure hope this place works on their service. read more

Nice sitting outside on the river however, our 12:30 seating had delivery trucks backing up 10feet away as we dined. The food was pretty good and the mushroom dumplings. and chocolate lava cake, Delicious. However, the broccoli rob was unevenly seasoned with some pieces too salty and some not salted at all. Seemed like a lot of stalks and I left most of it as unenjoyable . The crab cake ok but was 1/2 filler and mushy. 1/3 fell out when I tried to eat it like a sandwich. And I had forgotten just how moldy the inside of the building smells. With water, 1 appetizer and 1 desert between us, the bill was $120 with tip. Also the road construction was insane trying to get into the parking lot. Had to dodge cement mixing trucks and other large equipment working on sidewalks outside the park, not to mention the poor infrastructure inside the park. Won't be back again. Sorry. I wanted to like it. It could be a great find just for the views if they fixed the logistics of getting in and the mold inside the house. Wait staff was quite good. attended a beautiful wedding at this venue. Loved the food and service. Great views and love the nature. The only thing is that be prepared to have many trail runners and bikers watching the ceremony and then also just running or walking or biking by since this is a public place. There is a parking lot which is helpful. Overall wasn't too chilly for a fall wedding outdoors with the heaters but it was still cold but they have a great fire pit outside. read more

It's been about 10 years since we've eaten here, not for any particular reason, but somehow it slipped under the radar. We stopped here for dinner on a Saturday afternoon and had a fabulous meal. We started with soup and salad which were both solid and for main courses we chose pan seared salmon and the grilled pork chop. Everything was very good. Our server was personable and attentive. GF and I enjoyed a mid-October weekday lunch at the Inn. The location can't be beat! Our table in the fireplace room was comfortable and spacious. Service was professional, prompt, and polite. The food and drink were good value for money and overall tasty, but rather hit-or-miss. The bespoke Bloody "Mar(r)y" mix was dull and wouldn't garner a second date, let alone a marriage proposal, from me. My "hot chicken" sando was plenty tasty, but not nearly zippy enough to qualify as hot chicken. The dill pickle spear accompaniment was weirdly, sadly sweet. GF said her burger was satisfying, but it was far too sloppy to be a hand-held. I recommend the Inn for lunch if you're already coming for a walk along Forbidden Drive, but it isn't destination dining. read more

Service needs a lot of work. I was waiting to be seated, but the host/hostess was not in sight. Everyone was so busy- it was a beautiful Saturday afternoon and they were setting up for a wedding. My reservation was for 2pm. A guy comes out from no where, goes straight to the computer. I tell him Im checking in and waiting for my table. I give him my name and he said, oh i just canceled your reservation. What? It's 2:05pm and I've been waiting in line for 5 min! Bottomline, they regretted booking my reservation bc of the wedding and being so busy. I guess they were hoping I wouldn't come. Next, we waited for our waiter for 25 min until we finally went inside for help. You would think they have the service down pat by now. Diner beware the gnocchi was not what I expected. It was like a cheese soup. So heavy, creamy and tasteless. The Korea. Bbq wings were good. Cappuccino was also good. You can't beat the ambience. We were seated on the porch in blazing hot sun. Didn't have a fork to eat with, so i asked for one. It never came. Salad had no dressing on it, just a pile of lettuce straight out of the bag. When I asked the waiter why there was no dressing, he said that he could get some for me, but saying this as he was piling dirty dishes onto the same plate as the salad. Totally unacceptable! There was a table available in the middle of the porch for two that we could have sat in. If I had pushed my chair further back, I would have fallen off of the porch, and then there would be legal issues following. My drink took 10 minutes to get to me, but was fine. The sandwich was OK, but I wished there would have been other bread options besides white bread; I can get that in a supermarket. read more

I guess somethings should just be left to the imagination when it comes to places that are part of the fabric of America. Valley Green Inn in all probability looks exactly as it did 200 years ago. Which is fine but it has a heaviness they gives the appearance of shabby. And I do offer forgiveness to service in the age of Covid understanding that things may be a little slow. The restaurant is dated but historical. Two of us dinned on this day I ordered the hot chicken sandwich which was very good and my guests enjoyed a portion of it as well. The pork sandwich with broccoli rabe and sharp provolone cheese I really enjoyed because I like the flavors that meld together however my guest was less enthusiastic about the sandwich. I found the price is reasonable the food and service fair, the scenery different. Would I return again? No but I would not discourage anyone from trying Valley Green Inn. read more

The food was delicious and plentiful, but the service was not. My son had to go and inquire as to where our cocktails were and I would think a server should know who ordered what when there were only four of us. It was almost like the guy was sleepwalking. That being said the place was darling. No need to worry about what to wear as it was most welcoming to hikers in the park that surrounds the Inn. They have outdoor seating on their porch and welcome well behaved dogs while you dine. This historical site is lovely with large plank, hardwood floors and decorations fitting of the era when it was built. read more

Not at the Valley Green Inn We were seated at 7:45p and promptly ordered our full 4 courses at once and then....then we waited and waited and waited some more. At 8:44p, we received ONE lukewarm bowl of bisque and our dumplings were MIA. We had to ask a server to find our server who was as missing as our meal. Finally we got a manager to come and speak to us - he had our second course...but the full first course was still at large. Now listen - I was raised by an Irish Catholic Boomer - giving everyone the benefit of the doubt and putting myself last is engrained in my DNA...but I couldn't help but notice that everyone other couple in the dining room got their full, warm, promptly delivered meals and the lone same sex couple was left hungry in a corner...coincidence or correlation. AND when the manager did come he said "hopefully we can make this right in the future" what does that even mean???? No offer of reparations - how on earth would you suppose that I'd give you a second chance!? Needless to say, I would NOT recommend this place to ANYONE. read more

Valley Green Inn was a dining experience that surprised me. I always walk and jog on the Wissahickon and pass by this restaurant on a daily. But when my neighborhood friend wanted to celebrate his birthday dinner here, we both were intrigued to try out. Driving to this restaurant is a bit of a trek if you are driving in from Roxborough as the parking lot to this restaurant is on the other side of the Wissahickon and I had to drive 15 minutes to get there. The outside to Valley Green Inn is very quaint and you may wonder why this place is in the middle of the woods. But once you go inside, you are greeted by historical vintage rustic floors and chairs which makes you feel like you've travelled a bit back in time. The service and waiters were nice and accommodating. But once my friend and I sat down and ordered our dishes, we were surprised in many good ways. I didn't expect to find a variety of seafood dishes like crab, shrimp, and salmon especially cause the Wissahickon is in the middle of the woods with the Schuykill River. We first started off with a Pink Lemonade Virgin Vodka drink, which was sweet and delicious. We had multiple refills cause we both liked it. We ordered the Soft Shell Crab Tempura to start as appetizers due to a cute little inside joke that we have with one another which was delicious crispy and meaty with a delicious tangy spicy sauce. Next we had the Roasted Brussel Sprouts, which was perfectly charred. I had the Blackened Salmon & Jumbo Shrimp which was a seasonal dish and it was creamy, crispy, fresh, and hearty all in a single dish. My friend had the Salmon Imperial which he let me try his dish. The Salmon Imperial was creamy and the salmon was perfectly baked and poached. My stomach and heart were definitely full and it was a perfect peaceful way to celebrate a birthday. I am definitely planning to dine here again in the upcoming seasons to try out more of their menu since it's literally in my backyard! read more

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. My wife and I decided to go here for Thanksgiving dinner this year; $70/ person app, main and dessert before any drinks. We made a reservation well in advance online which threatened a $25/person charge for cancellation. No matter as we were going. When we got there on this 38 degree breezy day we were told we had to be seated outside. No mention of that on the internet. Once seated outside with a nice view of the creek the food was definitely mediocre at best. Dried out turkey and a clumsy array of sides with no substitutions allowed. Everything appeared to be plated and sliced in advance more like a hot plate buffet than an upscale restaurant. Service was also untrained and unprofessional. Total with a bottle of wine and a compulsory 20% tip was $226. I spent years working as a waiter and always tip generously but this staff was truly undeserving. Call me old school but spending more than $100/person at a restaurant should get you servers that know what service should be and food made with more care than a high school cafeteria. Be warned. Don't go. I won't go back. read more

We walked it off after with a short hike. If you have reservations, you can park at the bottom of the hill near the restaurant which is an added bonus. I came here for brunch. We were able to sit outside on the porch which was really nice. I ordered the mushroom, green beans, three cheese frittata special with a side fruit salad. I was pretty disappointed. The frittata was more like an omelet, but there wasn't any cheese or green beans; didn't love it. The fruit wasn't fresh at all.
