Working with Sundra at Aloha Ash Scattering in Maui was nothing short of extraordinary. During one of the most emotional and difficult times in our lives, she showed us a level of compassion, care, and attention that truly exceeded our expectations. From the very beginning, everything was handled with such grace and intention. Communication was thoughtful, clear, and never rushed. Sundra took the time to understand our family, making the entire experience feel deeply personal rather than procedural. The ceremony itself was peaceful, beautiful, and incredibly moving enrapturing Hawaiian tradition. Being able to say goodbye in such a serene setting, surrounded by the ocean and the natural beauty of Maui, brought a sense of comfort and closure that is hard to put into words. It didn't feel transactional -- it felt sacred and tailored specifically to honor our Mom and Grandmother. What stood out most was the genuine care behind everything Sundra did. This is clearly more than just a service -- it's something she truly pours her heart into, and it shows in every detail. If you are considering Aloha Ash Scattering, I can say with complete sincerity that you will be in the best possible hands. She created a moment for our family that we will carry with us forever. Thank you, Aloha Ash Scattering, for honoring our loved one so beautifully.

I don't think I would've made it through anything. The staff at Ballard Family Mortuary specificallly Charisse and funeral director BJ provided my family and I with EXCEPTIONAL CARE. I can't thank them enough for the love, care, and support they have provided us during such a difficult time. From the first initial phone call... to the time of my fathers burial, BJ and Charisse made sure that everything was covered: flowers, program, obituary, and more. They both were so compassionate, kind, and very much patient. ( FYI- I am a type-A person, who ask's a lot of questions and clarifies more than once. ) Never once did I have to question about the care or the details of the services. In addition: My dad looked incredibly handsome and young in his casket- shout out to their make up artist! Most importantly, the services ran smoothly and I didn't have to worry about what was next. At the end of the services, I considered them part of my family. The only downfall is that we wished to have his funeral services on the weekend but couldn't do the burial due to low staffing at Haiku Memorial Park. Lastly, If you're looking for who to trust with your loved ones definitely consider Ballard Family Mortuary. I recommend their services and would give them a 10 star if I could.

They picked him up in a cargo van with no air-conditioning and put a plastic cover over his body. Wish I was in the state of mind to take photos of this disgusting treatment The sad thing is they have a hearse but were too lazy to send the hearse out. I hope all the ghosts of the mistreated dead people haunt them.

I personally recommend going with Nakamura's as we had an absolutely inexcusable, horrible experience with Ballard's when my dad passed away (see my Yelp review). FUNERAL PLAN: Now that my spouse and I are middle-aged, it was time to start paying for our funeral and boneyard plans. We met with a friendly gal by the name of Nicole at Maui Memorial Park who helped us set up our plan and made sure we had arrangements strictly with Nakamura's and not awful Ballard's. We went through all the steps and made monthly payments. FUNERAL "HOME": Only in Hawaii do you have mortuaries and not traditional funeral homes like you find in the mainland US. While I can't comment on planning a service here, I can give my perspective as a grieving guest. If you're a non-religious family, this place is perfect as you can bring in anyone you want as far as leading the service. Parking can be a problem especially if you have a large family or if the deceased person was well known. There a few stalls on the lawn adjacent to the building and some in the back. It looks horrible with all the cars parked right out front but what are you supposed to do? There are unofficial street stalls along Lower Main Street but park at your own risk with Maui's terrifying driver skills. A small reception area greets you upon entering, good enough for a small 2-person table to collect cards. The main viewing room has a church-like setup with rows of pews split into three sections. Lighting is bright and not very ambient but the acoustics are good. Numerous split a/c units kept the room cool. Another popular local tradition is to feed your guests after the service. They have a small room with communal tables towards the back of the facility. Local catering companies do this all the time so set up/breakdown is usually a breeze for them. OVERALL: Trust me, go with Nakamura's for you or your loved one's home-going ceremony.
