FIRE HAZZARD! Brought boat in for tuneup, etc. Valley rewired the electrical system, etc. I got to the dock and no start. Brought it back, Mark (owner) said he fixed it and I got to the dock, got stranded. Brought it back (paying more each time) and they said they fixed it and.... got to the dock and no start. I brought it to a new shop and they said whoever did the last work (Valley) did it completely wrong. So wrong it was faulty and causing a fire hazard. I am I the process of asking Valley for a refund bit so far they have not responded. Their website says they do it right the first time. In my case they didn't get it right even the third time around. Half of my boating season wasted. Be careful with them. They might be good with cars (idk) but with my boat they were reckless and their work could have caused a catastrophe for my family and I. read more

They do a good job. It's not cheap but I've always been satisfied with the work. They are honest and helpful. I've never been recommended anything I didn't feel was necessary. I have however more than once come in with something to fix that was trivial and instead of upwelling or talking down to me they fix it and explain. You get what you pay for. read more

They tried 2 times to fix my outboard motor and it still doesn't work correctly. The owner just git mad and said he can't figure out the problem. Cost me almost $1000 and still my motor doesn't work. Do not use this dealer. Several other people I mentioned this place to said the same thing "don't bring your motor there". read more

I wish I had read these other reviews on Valley Motor Sports before I brought my motor there for service. It seems very similar things have happened to several other customers. I recently had my boat in to Valley Motor Sports for a tune-up and an overall inspection. I advised them that we had just bought the boat and wanted it checked over and serviced for our first trip out on water. I initially had a tune-up, water pump, and a few other things checked and billed $575.00. Front desk informed me when I picked it up that they (the mechanic, I assume) said the motor runs great! Well, the first time we took it out (with our grandchildren!) we got stuck and barely made it back to shore. I brought it back to VMS in and was told only then about the major carburetor work that was needed (to the tune of an additional $500+ on top of the $575 already paid). It seems to me that the carb should have been checked and I should have been told this information on the first inspection. Now, I am not a mechanic, but even I know that a carburetor is a major component to an engine running properly. It wasn't the money, as I do understand that boats cost money to maintain, so far as the lack of information that was provided at the first inspection. Not sure why this was, but up front is always better so the consumer can decide if the cost is worth it. I took the motor to another guy and it is now fixed and running great at a much lower cost than VMS quoted me. Additionally, I was charged by VM for 3 new spark plugs, which the other mechanic said were absolutely not replaced and were probably as old as the boat. I am not sure why this item was billed when they did not replace them. However, I would not have known they did this if another mechanic had not told me. On the plus side, Mark waived the $125 fee to tell me that an additional $500+ worth of work was needed, and he was nice on the phone. Also, when I asked for the $16.50 refund for the spark plugs, they did send me a refund a couple of weeks later, although no one had the courtesy of even acknowledging or responding to my email. It would have been a nice follow-up to at least explain to me why I was charged for parts and how they will make sure this does not happen to other customers. read more

Just got a new timing belt and engine hour, rpm history print out done on a 2004 Yamaha 150 four stroke. Valley Motor Sports said they could do it in about a week. All the other places I called said two weeks minimum. Dropped boat off on Thur. April 21 and picked it up on Wed. April 27. They did a great job at a reasonable cost in less than a week. I have purchased a bran new 15HP Mercury from this family own dealer (Mark Sandberg), at the same time I placed a 500 dollars deposit in cash on a used 40HP Mercury. About month and half latter I was having trouble with shipping because the engine needs to go over seas and the it was too much for shipping costs. Mark Sandberg this top notch Valley Motor Sport, decided to keep half of my deposit. I knew now that this is a family own business and so who cares if a customer had just purchased a bran new engine from your dealership. Did I tell you that I was about to ask this guy if he had a used pontoon or a used jet ski for my cabin?. $250 over a customer loyalty?. I would not wasted my time writing this review if he was to put it on paper or even have any kind of verbal warning regarding keeping half of my deposit. BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK. read more

This is a very real case of don't pay attention to some of the reviews on here. I was hesitant to bring my Artic Cat ATV here because of the reviews but decided to because it is really close to my house. I brought it there within a week of Christmas they looked at it the same day. Communicated with me through the whole process, called me multiple times and gave me different options and advice. They even suggested not doing the more expensive repair with some of electrical issues and told me it wouldn't be worth it. They had it ready the next morning. Less than 24 hours! I am updating my review that I made on 11/23/2014 in response to the Owner's Comment to my review that they made on 2/22/2017, because their potential customers need to know the truth. I still stand by my original review (please do read that one) that describes how: VMS was not able to fix the issue that the boat was brought in for, did extra things to the boat that we did NOT ask them to do and then charged us for them, and did not handle our boat with care. This update comes after reading the business owner's dishonest reply and seeing some potentially fake reviews that were added the same day. It turns out the business owners will also make blatant lies on a review site rather than do good and honest work to improve their reputation. 1. The boat owner and his father did not give different information to the business and never "argued" with each other in the showroom. In fact, in the fourteen plus years that I have known them, I have never seen them argue with each other. 2. VMS claims that when the boat comes with a cover, they will recover it when they are done, and argues that the boat was brought in with a tarp that was too tiny to cover up the boat. The truth is the boat came in with an oversized tarp that was wrapped with rope all the way around the boat. When VMS returned the boat, the oversized tarp was found bunched up on the left side of the the rear passenger compartment. 3. On the same day that VMS responded to my review (2/22/17), two new reviews popped up on Yelp. It makes me wonder if VMS added two fake Yelp reviews to further manufacture their reputation, again rather than doing good and honest work to make their reputation better. It looks like the Yelp algorithm caught this and the potentially fake reviews did not make it into the Recommended Reviews section. Instead, these reviews ended up in the "reviews that are not currently recommended" list which you can find by clicking on the link with that description. I went on to search this business on various review sites and found a recurring theme of people being upset about unauthorized charges. There were also positive reviews, but I now have to question how many of these positive reviews were generated by the owners at VMS. If you have never used VMS before and are now feeling concerned, you should be. They have not been honest people and you don't want dishonest people working on something you care about. If you have used VMS before, please do share your honest experience so that people can have a good collective picture of who VMS is and whether they should entrust VMS with their property. If VMS did in fact add fake reviews, my hope is that if more previous customers take the time to review this company, the honest reviews will shed light on who they really are. Note: I would like to add that about a year ago, a previous VMS customer that I did not know sent me a private message via Yelp, because they had a similar experience with unauthorized charges from this business. Unfortunately the person did not add their own review on Yelp. I noticed this person was not a regular Yelp reviewer and probably did not understand the importance and usefulness of sharing their experience publicly. Below is what they wrote me, unedited: I am filing a small claims suit against Valley Motor Sports for unauthorized repairs they made on my boat and stumbled across your yelp review stating the same. This was the second time they did this to me and it crossed the line. It is a clear violation of state law. Here is an excerpt of an email I just sent them if you'd like to reference the same statute. "I would encourage you to reference 2014 Minnesota Statutes Section 325F.59 "Repairs" prior to my arrival tomorrow. I'm repeating it below and is accessible here: revisor.mn.gov/statutes/... 325F.59 REPAIRS. No shop shall charge for unauthorized repairs. No shop shall perform repairs it knows or has reason to know are unnecessary to the restoration of a motor vehicle, appliance, or dwelling place unless the customer authorizes the repairs after the shop informs the customer that they are unnecessary. Brought in boat for tune up and after they had the boat for two weeks they then sent me out on water without reassembling, or checking that it even ran. I launched my boat assuming it worked and had the gas tank inoperable, and the lower unit of the engine falling off due to not being screwed together. When I brought the boat in with my concerns after almost losing half the motor on the lake, I was met with nothing but rude responses and no accountability what so ever from the front desk woman to the shop manager. This company charged labor for things they obviously never even checked, and never once offered any compensation back for the work they obviously never did. Never in my life have I had this bad an experience with a shop, and even with their errors anticipated them to take some accountability for their lack of oversight and quality work. If you're looking to get screwed over or have your boat damaged this may be the place for you, otherwise I highly recommend anywhere else. I have videos of the damage, and plenty of pictures. I hope the shop owner wants to engage in arguing how great you are because I would love for others to see the truth. read more

We brought our boat to Valley Motor Sports because we were not satisfied with the job that Dan's Marine had done. After spending $1200.00 at VMS, our boat ran for only 8 hours or so before breaking with the same problem that was supposedly fixed. When we brought it back in to VMS to be redone, they charged us another $645. What a rip off. And they didn't even seem to care about the customer at all or the bad job that was done in the first place. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS BUSINESS OR EVER USE THEM AGAIN. read more
