At dinner time we walked probably a hundred yards from the pool and had a meal in their picnic grove near the Connecticut River. Then went for an evening swim between 6-8 pm before going home. At that time the membership was about $150 per year for the family. My father would bring the car home at lunchtime so my mother could take my brother and me to their pool, sometimes I brought one of my best friends.If it has been maintained as well as the pictures show, it is well worth visiting to learn more about their current membership levels. However there is no public boat docking. There are also no restaurant or sanitary facilities located on the lake to the public. Occasionally ice cream trucks roll through for the little ones. If you're looking to kayak, paddle-board, relax and go tubing -- and you aren't a resident or local, I recommend finding street parking or walking over to the lake. I called again and spoke to someone who didn't know if they would be running their cruise over Independence Day. They told me to leave a message for someone else; that person did not return my call. The only reason I continued to pursue this was because my parents assured me that they enjoyed themselves. I called a few weeks before my boyfriend was going to visit, and made a reservation for two people for a certain day and time. I live an hour away from the boat ride, so I wanted to make sure there would be a spot for us. On the day of our reservation we drove to the dockside. They had no record of our reservation. They also said that the tickets would cost us an extra $10. The riverboat is clean and they have a safety video. There are two crew members in addition to the captain. Alcoholic and virgin beverages are available for cash, as are bagged chips and snacks. We went to sit upstairs, for a great view, and to get away from the very loud, dated, and tacky band. Unfortunately they had an amplifier speaker up-top, too. We asked one of the members of the crew if she could please turn down the music, as my boyfriend and I couldn't hear each other speaking; she said she couldn't turn down the volume. My boyfriend asked If I had any earplugs in my purse, and fortunately I did. If you enjoy Jimmy Buffett songs, perhaps you will find the music edifying. The band has been playing on this cruise for ten years, supposedly; this suggests to me that it will be here when YOU ride on the boat. The singer made absolutely no effort to sing on-key. It was dreadful. My boyfriend said "This was forty dollars and ninety minutes that I will never get back."

So what exactly is Satan's Kingdom?  Well, it's  a one acre state operated public recreation area on the Farmington River used for hiking, canoeing, kayaking, and tubing down the river's three sets of rapids courtesy of Farmington River Tubing. Where did that devilish name come from? I read that construction of a nearby railroad in the 1870's proved so difficult the railroad workers named it "Satan's Kingdom" In 2012 the recreation area gained Connecticut State Park status. We walked along the deserted grounds (tubing is closed for the season) and saw some very nice scenery and river views, Not one devil in sight.

Since this was our first time using our own boats at this location we attempted to use the self launch dock, however we were uneasy with it and were unsure as our first time (walking down stairs and a free floating dock you put your boat next to) We went to the other launch dock where there were others who rented boats waiting their turn to get out. We were waiting our turns as well as family going with us, to launch but one of the kids who was working was snobby saying "you can't be over here during busy times like this" and rolled his eyes when we explained we we uneasy at the other dock. As paying customers, I was appalled at how we were treated by some young man as we told him we didn't feel safe using the other dock as OUR FIRST TIME We were fully aware there was a free boat launch down the road however we were with family and wanted to all stay together since they had to rent theirs. Next time I will save myself the hassle and disrespect from some child staff who can't properly communicate
