We also bought some chalk from them to help with our grip! We had a blast here. I have personally never rock climbed before, but there were so many beginner friendly ones that I could actually do! The staff was friendly and helpful as well. It was a great experience and I would definitely come back when I visit Massachusettes again.

This keeps the gym feeling really safe and professional, which I enjoy. I also love the variety of yoga and fitness classes, plus the free weights in the gym. It's the perfect mix for me of climbing, yoga (which I used to HATE and now generally enjoy, thanks to CRG) and weightlifting. The training area upstairs is also great for climbing-specific training, with a variety of hangboards, a kilterboard, and more. I really like the vibes here, and the music is great 99% of the time. Great atmosphere and a nice sense of community fostered by the staff with lots of events like queer climbing night, women's climbing night, and more. Honestly, my favorite reason for living in this area. Highly recommend visiting!

The Central Rock Gym separates their routes using hold colors which is much better than gyms that put stickers near each route. The gym is clean and staff if very friendly. The facilities are also well-maintained since they are clean and properly managed. My biggest concern for this place, however, is the affordability of the memberships. I'm sure the up-keeping of the facility can be expensive, but the prices only attract a particular group of people. Perhaps this is intentional; I am always looking for places that seek to incorporate diversity, both economically and racially. Keeping up with the monthly membership price is surely not sustainable for someone who lives off minimum wage or, even for someone who makes a bit more. Thus, though this can be a fun and safe place for the community, it lacks the actual representation of the latter. Moreover, no incentive programs currently exist to make this place a bit more affordable for the average working-class family in the city. Now, while they do have a family plan, it is exclusively for immediate family. I tried to create a membership with my older brothers but, was told that the family membership was only for my spouse and children. of which I have neither. This is truly a disappointment since with the single membership, you can only bring a guest with you once a month; after that there is a fee. So, if you're someone like me, who likes to bring a friend along to help with climbing or to encourage you with working out, this isn't the place for you. Unless of course, you friend wants to purchase a membership, too. But again, it´s just not cost-efficient or worth it for the average low/medium income person. But, for those of you who make a good amount of money, this place can definitely be worth it. They offer a wide range of workout classes and opportunities to get better at rock climbing. You'll just want to make sure you're taking advantage of everything- to make the dollar count. Overall, I really enjoy rock climbing, and this facility is truly well-managed and maintained. It has a lot of potential to actively engage with the community it's in; however, whether intentional or not, it greatly lacks in being a racially and economically diverse space. This is truly unfortunate for a place as fun and engaging as this one can be. Frankly, it's intimidating when you can count, with one hand, the number of people of color during a typical night, or even to witness the non-existence of the lower/ lower-middle class. And if you're from Worcester, you know it's a large community they're keeping out, a community that is greatly diverse. This facility has the opportunity to bring people together, but unfortunately, the prices hinder this from doing so and have instead, settled for just one particular group. And oh! the prices just recently went up $5.00 for all memberships.

Booking online through their website was easy but it requires a lot of information. If you're booking for a group with a minor, they prefer to have the waiver printed and signed before arrival. However we were able to fill out another copy of the waiver on their tablets to start our group appointment. The two hour block was the perfect amount of time. By the end we were so exhausted we couldn't keep going. It has been over 10 years since we last climbed at a different gym so it was really great to get back into top roping. The staff gave us a quick tutorial to show us how the equipment works and discussed safety. It was a great refresher and extremely helpful. They offer equipment rentals, including harnesses, chalk, and shoes, also snacks and drinks are available. This was a lot of fun and we'll be back soon.

The facility is spacious, had nice clean bathrooms/changing rooms, a hand washing station, and cubbies. The climbing walls start off "beginner" and get progressively harder. There are various options for booking parties, monthly memberships, or attending open climb. You can rent equipment (shoes, harnesses), and buy chalk. There were kids climbing from five/six years of age all the way to grandparents. We will definitely be back in the future!

We were able to fill out everything online, and Kevin reached out the afternoon before our climbing day to confirm the crag (east facing on Ragged Mountain, so we could be warm!), where we would park/meet, and any pertinent notes. Once there, Kevin had all the gear we needed, packed and ready to go. Harnesses, helmets, ropes, webbing, things I didn't know we needed but he had prepared for safety/security/fun. Then, we had a short approach and voila! A wall with plenty of climbs. Kevin led us up a scramble first to set up our first two top ropes and gave us a chance to rappel back down after we took in the incredible view from the top of Ragged Mountain. We spent the morning climbing a range of 5.6-5.8s, got to say hello to a friendly pup, and learned a lot about crag stewardship in the area. Our trip had a blast, and despite the wasp/bees that we were disturbing, we couldn't have pictured a better day. I'll be making an excuse to visit more often to take advantage of Connecticut's great climbing scene, Kevin's knowledge, and relationship with the local climbing community. Yelpers, you won't regret it!
