Then I got put in a room on the top floor and was assigned some amazing nurses who have spoiled the heck out of me since I got here!! Sarah is the first nurse I met. She has been so incredibly attentive and sweet to me the last whole stay. She's really gone above and beyond to ensure my comfort and make sure I got everything I needed, and always with a very sweet disposition and smile! The other nurses and respiratory therapist have been wonderful also Delma and Kavi then Baljit and Elma the next day. Everybody is kind and considerate here. They really go the extra mile to ensure you are truly OK before they leave you. When Jeremy Zak walked around in the morning the next day, I was so impressed that the CEO was walking around making sure everybody was OK. That blew my mind. Every person I've encountered here has gone above and beyond and Ben super sweet and kind and I told them that they really live up to their companies's motto "hello human kindness"! I made sure I told Jeremy about his excellent staff, and I told Rogina Nencey the nursing Director about how well I got taken care of in detail! I highly recommend this hospital for any procedure, it is top-notch and worth more than five stars, but I'll put five stars because that's all I can! Thank you guys for spoiling me rotten & such a wonderful experience.

I mean .. truth be told the length of time you are still waiting to be seen.. you start seething even if you came in with the most positive , upbeat attitude. I had to take my little one to the ER with a pediatrics ward. So here we are. I despise having to pay for parking at any hospital . Expect here to be no different, I could see all the heads moving around inside the ER when I pulled into the parking lot around 115pm. I checked in to the ER 1:30pm. Every single staff person in this ER from security on. So so nice! They are the only bright light in this situation. I sat for 6 hours just for my son to be seen for stomach issues. Had the ultra sound and blood work done quick. But for him to get a room and be given an IV.. just to make sure he's hydrated. Had me vexed! From 130p - 630p and still no room. I've watched everyone come and go and even had an old man (67) hit on me for about 2 hours straight just jaw jacking my ears off. I had to be out advocate and make the decision we weren't waiting another 6 hours for fluids. Again, staff is so so good. They weren't even mad at me for starting to push to leave. This place is insanely busy. Idk if the resolve is to hav more facilities available in other locations as to not overcrowd this one. But something has to happen, patients shouldn't sit a whole work shift when they are in the ER.

THE ONCOLOGY INSTITUTE OF HOPE AND INNOVATION is a very misleading name: they crushed every bit of…read morehope I had and they couldn't innovate well enough to determine whether or not I was their actual patient. At 8:30 AM the office officially opened and I was already caller number 26. I made two calls over two days, both with 20-minute+ on hold times -- after which I had to hang up to return to work -- and one 45 minute hold time on the third day that ended in someone answering the phone to tell me the schedulers had gone to lunch. Call back later. He was unmoved by my outrage. A friend noticed that the institute's website had a link for setting up appointments. I followed the directions, uploaded my insurance card, downloaded the app, and was given a confirmation including a date, a time, an oncologist's name (Dr. Bala Ganesh Gopurala) and even his photograph with APPOINTMENT BOOKED! in bold capital letters. A week later, I arrived for my appointment and was told (by a very indifferent receptionist who barely looked up from her computer) that I was not in the system. No appointment. Nothing. Dr. Gopurala had been at their Riverside office for months, she said. My name, my phone number, and my request for an appointment were logged into the system from my text request only, but when I asked why no one had contacted me after a week, she shrugged her shoulders. That's not an exaggeration -- she shrugged! Finally, the fuss we raised brought a compassionate doctor to the waiting room and she agreed to see me. She got the ball rolling by calling the breast cancer surgeon and reassured me that the website, the app download, and the IT department were not up to par. Ya think? After that, everything seemed to fall into place... until the institute called a couple of weeks later to say they needed to reschedule my appointment. I asked, "What appointment?" They had sent neither an email nor a text, and had not broached the subject of a follow up appointment at that point. I agreed to the reschedule, but once again I never received one email, text, nor voicemail confirmation for it. Near the end of December, City of Hope contacted me to ask why they had not been sent a referral for the radiation treatments that the oncologist had recommended. I gave the scheduler the institute's proper name, address, and the name of the oncologist who'd taken pity on me that day. City of Hope called right back to inform me that the Oncology Institute of Hope and Innovation said I was not in their system! I immediately called my primary care physician and requested another oncology referral. On January 9, 2026, OIHI called again to confirm my January 12 appointment. Fascinating! An appointment with a clinic that has twice insisted I was not in their system? I told them to delete me. I was moving on. I understand that there are a lot of people in Los Angeles. I understand that clinics are understaffed and overworked. I understand that I am NOT the only person with cancer in the San Fernando Valley community. But a modicum of professional demeanor, efficiency and competency is the least any patient deserves. The very least one can ask is for a website that has up-to-date doctors and staff on its scheduling app and an IT department that checks its website for accuracy; that assures that there's a direct connection to the scheduling department. The very least one deserves is a return call within 24 to 48 business hours. The very least one deserves is an iota of compassion from the people who schedule the appointments. After a cancer diagnosis, you are already panicked. Often terrified. One cannot help but feel that every single minute is of the essence. All this to say that if you are referred to the Oncology Institute of Hope and Innovation, BEWARE. Their behavior seems to indicate that they HOPE you'll catch on that your diagnosis is not their problem. Perhaps your poor man's health insurance makes them INNOVATE ways to get you to give up and go away. Or perhaps they simply don't give a crap -- I don't know which, but enter at your own risk. Becoming a patient at their clinic is nothing short of a crapshoot. And you might end up losing your dice.

The place looks like it's getting a facelift, so I'll give them that. Fresh walls may be coming. New energy may be loading. But right now the organization still feels like it's buffering. The doctor was cool. That helped a lot. Calm energy. Normal conversation. Didn't make the visit feel heavier than it already was. In an emergency room, that matters because nobody pulls up there for fun. Nobody is saying, "Let's see what the ER is doing tonight." You want people who can make a stressful situation feel a little less chaotic. The security setup was the confusing part. You can walk in with the patient without being registered as a guest, but once you step out, now it's a whole process. Badge. Registration. Security check. Side quest unlocked. Why not just do that at the beginning? It felt like airport TSA designed a scavenger hunt inside a hospital. Some of the machines weren't working when we got there, so getting vitals checked took a while. That was weird. It's an emergency room. The machines should be awake before we are. A hospital with machines not working is like Starbucks saying the coffee machine is down. Technically possible. Emotionally unacceptable. The receptionist was definitely having a day. I get it. We all have those. But at a hospital front desk, the vibe matters. People are stressed. Worried. Confused. Already thinking WebMD gave them three hours to live. A little warmth would go a long way. You don't need Disney cast member energy. Just maybe less "you interrupted my villain origin story." The atmosphere felt like a hospital mid-glow-up. Construction energy. Moving parts. A few systems that need tightening. Not terrible. Just noticeably not smooth. Overall, the experience was still good because the doctor and staff helped keep things steady. But the ER flow could use better organization, working equipment, and a front desk vibe that says "we got you" instead of "why are you bleeding near my paperwork?" it's giving... He recently did my colonoscopy, which was my third. By far the easiest process to date, save one issue I describe below. The prep was so easy this time; Dr. Eshaghian gave me the option to do a pill based cleanse 12 hours before my procedure, and it was a game changer. And according to the doctor, the results were perfect, which was not always the case with the old "drink three gallons of this horrible tasting stuff and spend the next 36 hours on the toilet" approach. The procedure only took 20 minutes and he was bedside to give me his impressions the moment I woke up. The anesthesiologist he works with is terrific, as well. All in all, a great experience save the issue below. So I highly recommend him. There is one thing to note, however. He has contracted with Valley Endoscopy Center as the place where he does his procedures. They are quite awful. Scheduling was a cluster of confusion between the Center and the doctor's office; I got different messages each time I spoke to each and it created a bit of an issue with arranging for the timing of my before- and after-care. Plus, when I arrived for the procedure (once the time was finally solidified), there were a bunch of people sitting on the floor in the hallway because the waiting room did not have enough chairs for the number of people having procedures done. And then I went in an hour behind schedule because the Center was short-staffed with nurses (which I understand is a universal problem, so I can give a pass on this one). But the doctor is a win as mentioned above, so I was willing to put up with these issues. I do hope he upgrades the Center he uses, though.

Each person brought something unique to our family's experience. Olga was a source of comfort and reassurance whenever I felt overwhelmed and needed guidance. Eric showed extraordinary patience and gentleness with my brother, even on the most difficult days. No matter how challenging the situation became, he treated him with kindness and respect. Randy had a special way of connecting with my brother and earning his trust. When my brother wasn't listening to the rest of us, Randy somehow always knew how to reach him. Heather, our social worker, helped guide our family through difficult decisions and conversations with compassion and professionalism. Her support during an incredibly challenging time was deeply appreciated. Beyond providing excellent medical care, these individuals supported our family through an incredibly difficult journey.
