If I had a nickel for every time I drove by and said. "Imma check this market out sometime soon..." Five years later, I finally made it. (I know, I certainly took too long.) Better late than never! Hubbers and I have our usual Asian or Mexican markets go-to's which were a bit of a drive from home. This one is much closer. He mentioned he's stopped by and that he liked their meat and vege selections, so when the need came up and didn't feel like making the drive to our usual spots, we came through. It's primarily a Mexican digs with the usual products. Fresh vegetables, selections of cheese and meats, as well as lots of piñatas which added to the overall decor. Prices are a tad bit higher than usual, but worth it for the convenience! I guess I got distracted at looking at some interesting things I may have never seen before because the next thing I knew, Hubbers got what we needed and was good to go. Glad I finally made the stop! I may find myself making more stops here in the near future!

The receipt!

Well, I live in Pinole just down the street from this market and went in there. I'm black and they are not friendly. I don't know if this is how they are or they were having a bad day? I I speak Spanish so I can understand a lot of what they're saying sometimes they speak a little too fast for me since I don't practice every day but valley produce market if I ever decide to come into your building again I hope you are a lot friendlier than you were this first time! I've been living in Pinole for over a year and this was my first time in the store. The woman was rude, Kurt and definitely somebody that I probably don't want to deal with again! I'll see if she's working there again I don't know if his family owned but if you're Black and you're in this neighborhood, perhaps you should not go to this place. I could spend my money anywhere and I got a good number of dollars I can and do spend! Hello Sprouts and Traders!

I'm glad I stopped in

But the steak fajitas not so much, needs a better quality beef for that one - kinda chewey and tough, but A+ for effort!

This review isn't based off of one interaction that I've had, but several in which I felt Star…read moreMeats customer service was non existent. Awhile back, I tried to bring as much business to Star Meat as I could because 1. it's a small business and 2. it's inside Star Grocery (which I LOVE, so it's convenient). When I would go there, there would often be 2 or 3 people behind the counter and oftentimes I would be the only customer. I felt like I had to stand there forever before anyone even acknowledged I existed. Each person would be busy doing something, but there was no "I'll be with you in 2 minutes." Finally, I went one day and there were 3 workers behind the counter chatting with each other. I was the only customer and was standing around 6 feet away from them, looking right at them. They went on with there conversation (not doing any other work) for a full 5 minutes. Finally I thought, "OK, they really don't seem to want my business, so I can go to any one of 4 other places and get what I want." That was a year or two ago. So, today I thought, why not give it another try, it's certainly convenient. Again, I'm the only customer at the counter. One guy is washing equipment and two guys are making sandwiches. I know that they know that I'm there, there are mirrors all along the back wall exactly for the purpose of seeing the customers. After around 4 minutes I think, who knows how long I'm going to be standing here. Maybe they have to make 20 sandwiches and I'll be here for a half hour. So, I left. I don't have anything like this experience at the 4 other meat counters I go to in the area. I'm totally fine waiting if I have some sense that I'm waiting for a purpose and that the worker will get to me as soon as they can. But at Star Meat, it feels like I'm more of an inconvenience than a customer. "Hi, I'll be with you as soon as I can," goes a long way.

Glad we were able to track them down cause their sandwiches look so basic in pics but are so darn good. The market is cool too but I'm always gonna start by bee lining it to the deli in back of the shop to order one of their daily sandwiches. They make 3 flavors each day. 18$ a pop. Delicious.

I've been here twice. First time I got a leg of lamb and more recently some double cut pork chops…read more I'm sure they are helpful if you ask questions but they were pretty busy both times I came in and it felt like you needed to know what you wanted for the most part. For the leg of lamb, I think most people get a whole leg of lamb. That was way too much for me and I think the butcher thought I was confused when I asked for less and asked me what I was doing with it. He ended up saying he could give me a half leg of lamb and I agreed. Thar was about 3 and a half pounds (bone included) which was the perfect amount. I seared it and then braised it and the meat fell off the bone. Delicious and the price was pretty good. I was cooking my first pork chop and decided to come here to get it. Their pork isn't labeled as Berkshire or Duroc or anything but that probably keeps the price down. For chops, they had boneless, bone in, and double cut (which was also bone in). I mentioned I wanted it to be about 2 inches thick and the butcher said to get the double cut.I got 2 beautiful thick pork chops for $6.99 a pound so about $18 total. The regular cut bone in pork chops were the same price though obviously smaller. I brined this overnight and reverse seared it and it was great. The chop was a loin chop- loin and then a tenderloin nugget- not a pure rib chop. Cooked really nicely and was tender which I think was partially the overnight brine and also their pork. They do sell some vegetables and grocery supplies if you want to just make a single stop. They also have a deli with some sandwiches that looked good and prepared foods. I was very focused on buying the things I came in for and getting on with my day both times but I would like to take a closer look in the future as it looked good. Solid butcher shop and clearly loved since it was busy both on a weekend and during the week. I'm sure I will be back.

We've been to his smash burger spot in Richmond, and my parents tried his pop up back in the day over by the Crane way Pavilion (IYKYK). We were all impressed by the overall look and feel of this spot, from initial walk-in, to the food, and service. With country music playing, a clean and bright interior, and the sweet smells of juicy meat and sides waiting, we knew we entered the right place. We tried it all! Nachos for the table to start with deliciously diced brisket, beans, chives, cheese, BBQ sauce, and more, a loaded potato with pulled pork, meat plates including the ribs, sliced brisket, chicken, and a pulled pork sandwich. Everything was amazing and done right. You could tell there was love and care in each bite, which I feel for East Bay BBQ, is important. The portions were stellar, the quality was excellent, and we enjoyed sides of corn, mac and cheese, and cole slaw. There really isn't much else to it! We sat at a long table and there were rolls of paper towels attached to it which I wish we could get our "after" pic besides just the before pics because we def got saucy! I like the innovation of the loaded nachos and potato with proteins if you don't want a sandwich or a plate..great shareables, but also great portions for your own meal (or second meal too). They also do their smash burgers here, and had key lime mini pies for dessert. No beer/wine, but soft drinks. Plenty of parking adjacent and fair pricing for BBQ. We already can't wait to come back ~ I have my eye on those hot links! Thank you for bringing the vibes to Hercules.
