April 2 2025 The place has its own butcher. I was just browsing but the butcher took the time to greet me with a warm smile. I like that. Shelves are organized smartly. They have a nice selection of Hispanic themed packaged goods, fresh produce and meats. Unfortunately they didn't have the poblano peppers we wanted to purchase today. The cashier worked her way through the short line of customers quickly and we were in and out of the modestly sized store. We may stop in again if I can beg my wife into making enchiladas with sauce from scratch again. read more

If I had a nickel for every time I drove by and said. "Imma check this market out sometime soon..." Five years later, I finally made it. (I know, I certainly took too long.) Better late than never! Hubbers and I have our usual Asian or Mexican markets go-to's which were a bit of a drive from home. This one is much closer. He mentioned he's stopped by and that he liked their meat and vege selections, so when the need came up and didn't feel like making the drive to our usual spots, we came through. It's primarily a Mexican digs with the usual products. Fresh vegetables, selections of cheese and meats, as well as lots of piñatas which added to the overall decor. Prices are a tad bit higher than usual, but worth it for the convenience! I guess I got distracted at looking at some interesting things I may have never seen before because the next thing I knew, Hubbers got what we needed and was good to go. Glad I finally made the stop! Well, I live in Pinole just down the street from this market and went in there. I'm black and they are not friendly. I don't know if this is how they are or they were having a bad day? I I speak Spanish so I can understand a lot of what they're saying sometimes they speak a little too fast for me since I don't practice every day but valley produce market if I ever decide to come into your building again I hope you are a lot friendlier than you were this first time! I've been living in Pinole for over a year and this was my first time in the store. The woman was rude, Kurt and definitely somebody that I probably don't want to deal with again! I'll see if she's working there again I don't know if his family owned but if you're Black and you're in this neighborhood, perhaps you should not go to this place. Love the meat here I come here about once a month the lady is typically amicable..but today I must say I am disappointed as a store owner she ask whos next behind the meat counter you just dont ask one person you as everyone else in line mind you she blankly ignores me standing there..after she helps the other person(they didn't have what he needed) i politely told her i was next he was not then proceeded to have an attitude of i did not give him anything lady you gave him service and there was a little girl who needed help translating.. It is safe to say I will not be returning to place and i refer this place a lot... They have a great selection of fruits and vegetables. The inside gives you a hometown grocery store vibe, which is much needed in the area! But what sets this place apart is their meat selection in the back. You can get pre-marinated meats for tacos, fajitas, etc, which are all delicious and very convenient. A gem of a small Latino market that obscurely sits in busy San Pablo Avenue where commuters drive by daily. After driving by this little market for 1.5 years on my way home, I finally decided to stop in. And, I'm so glad I did. The market was clean, neatly stocked, and organized in different section and small rooms. Merry Latino music was chiming along as a few shoppers browsed. Unlike other markets, the music was the right volume, not blasting in one's ears. Workers were friendly and helpful. I came looking for avocados. Where I usually shop at Safeway or Raley's, small Haas avocados are usually expensive anytime of the year. And, even on sale, one doesn't get much of a deal. To my surprise, large Mexican avocados here were $1.39 each. They may not be Haas quality, but this price fits my budget. I browsed the shelves to delightfully find more fresh produce my husby usually cooks with . There were shelves of different kinds of beans, tortilla chips, salsas, breads, and even desserts. The back room is a butcher counter. I saw marinated meats, as well as choice cuts of fresh meat ready for carving. When I have more time, I'm bringing my husby here to get marinated meats for grilling and barbecuing. And, for tacos, fajitas, and burritos. On my way out, I found little soft flour taco sized tortillas for the 1st time. I've never seen them in major supermarkets. Had to get them with my stash of avocados and bag of black eyed peas. I was babysitting my friend's baby one day when we decided to go on a walk and check out the local market. I'm always interested in checking out local markets, especially those that sell Mexican/Latin goods. It's a nice little store that has a great variety of produce, dairy, meat, tortillas and bread. They have fresh queso, guacamole, salsas and chips. I picked up a few items to snack on while watching the baby and was impressed with the fresh quality. Valley produce is a great family owned produce and a carniceria/butcher shop. The people working here are friendly and the store is clean. Another plus is they have a parking lot; there is no street parking on San Pablo Avenue. I think the prices are compatible with other nearby supermarkets and Latin food stores. On the other hand S thinks they are too expensive. I'd rather pickup a few things here than go to a supermarket. They have a nice selection of fresh vegetables and fruit. They have a lot of Latin spices and cheese. The marinated meats in the carniceria make great fajitas. The other meat is hand-cut to order it doesn't sit all day in a package. They also sell their own delicious fresh salsas and guacamole. What some pan dulce, or different chips? You'll find it at this small market. Yes, they deserve 5 stars! read more

They have the BEST guacamole and when I don't feel like making my own I grab these by the handful. Their array of fresh corn tortilla chips is unmatched! The perfect amount of salty and greasy lol I like to buy some of their bulk items as well like beans and rice but I find some of the produce especially the veggies to be hit or miss in terms of quality. I've seen some limp celery, brown broccoli, and wilted packaged lettuce marked full price that should have been marked down if even sold. The fruit however always seems to be on point. When we were looking for a new home in Pinole, we saw this little market and decided no matter where we bought, we were going to try it out. Happily, we have a home just up the street! The butcher shop has excellent meats, including marinated steak for a wonderful Mexican meal. They sell house made salsa and quac (we must always purchase two containers when our daughter comes up from LA for a visit because she'll plow through one all by herself), fresh produce, and many other grocery items. Don't drive past without stopping in and giving these very nice people a try! This is precisely the sort of small business we all should be supporting. read more

I have mixed feelings about Valley Produce Market. There are items that are on sale weekly, like most grocery stores, and for the most part, they are good. I'm addressing specifically produce. However, after bringing them home, many times, it's bruised on the inside, though I am very careful when selecting them. I have noticed that the staff, many times, tends to basically just dump out the fruits onto the stand and then arrange them. I believe this bruises the fruits, though it may not be apparent immediately. Another item, which is irritating though other grocers do it also: Specials on specific days. Because Valley Produce is a bit away from my home, and I am nearer to it one day of the week only, it's not worth it to drive 20 miles just to take advantage of the special sale on another day. Was a time when local groceries were family-owned and walking distance. Now this is the only one I know, though for me it's a bit of a (worthwhile) ride away. I buy my vegan staples here, especially the creamy canario beans. They have a surprisingly wide selection of produce, spices and bulk goods, and the prices are very reasonable and the produce quality is high. The in-house custom butcher is another rarity. I buy the marinated chicken from them for guests- much better than I could make myself, even though I'm an ardent and adventurous home cook. Over years of shopping here, I've never been disappointed by quality, price, or service, and they are consistently just as matter-of-fact welcoming to Anglo me as they are to Hispanic customers. read more

One of the most amazing local Latin markets in the area. They sell house made salsas, guacamole, and ceviche. Their meat selection is out of this world - shrimp, lengua, short ribs, even marinated steak and chicken. I think their prices are reasonable, some things are slightly more expensive but it's convenient and that's what matters. I love this small and very smartly stocked family owned shop. I have been coming here since we first moved to PINOLE. You can find many hard to find items for making a dish from many parts of Latin America. From Peruvian yellow or red Ají (hot/mild dried chili peppers) to flour made for Arepas. Big selection of tortillas, very fresh produce, fresh meat from their butcher shop. Best house made CHORIZO that I have tasted outside of Toluca, the chorizo capital of Mexico. This is a well-organized, compact, clean market. The wide assortment of fruits and veggies are fresh, the meat counter is cold and sterile as it should be! The butcher is very knowledgeable and has a beautiful selection of fresh meat. They offer uncooked marinated meats like carne and pollo asada, fajita mixes, as well as super fresh ceviche and smokey, succulent, already-prepared carnitas. Valley also has a huge assortment of spices and bulk grains/flours that go easy on your bank account. I love that they have a wide range of tortillas and tortilla chips to choose from, as well as yummy fresh salsas. Yes, it's primarily a Latino/Mexican market but you will also find staples that anyone needs (sugar, butter, milk, flour, canned tomatoes, beans etc.) I need to stop for a moment and discuss the alfajores. If you've never had one before, get thee to Valley Produce for this little bit of buttery cookie/caramel heaven. Think of the most delicious butter cookie you ever had and multiply it by butter. Next it's filled with nice dark caramel and topped with another fall-apart buttery cookie, finally dusted with powdered sugar. Yes they have a nice little selection of pan dulce, but why have a pan dulce when alfajores exist? Sure, this isn't a huge store and you may not find everything you need, but they come pretty close to having a little bit of everything grocery-wise and the prices are very reasonable. I have been a regular here since they first opened. They are the only carniceria in the Pinole- Hercules area. They are family owned and operated. Which brings a smile to my face that I'm not contributing to some big corporate store like Mi Pueblo or Los Montanas where the prices on certain items are marked way up. I can get my meat, pan dulce, vegetables, and other small items all in one stop. I like that the meat is fresh and you can buy in portion of just exactly what you need.
