Looking for an Italian deli and meat market? For really fresh quality prime, chuck, rump and ground meats, Guerra will provide you the best cuts! I came with a friend to order sandwiches at their deli section and the friendly service was attentive and efficient. They also sell drinks and Italian goods, from nougats to sauces to cold drinks. Nice, clean, well-lit store that exudes pride!

Sandwiches we got were good, they were your typical deli sandwich that had a straightforward flavor to them. I enjoyed the small neighborhood deli feel they had going in there! They knew most folks by name & made sure to get to everyone quickly, including us! The fine meats looked on point! I would return.

TLDR: If in this 'hood and looking for something Italian and/or meat-centric, this is a worthwhile stop. If you live in another part of the city with its own Italian grocer or high quality butcher, I would call before heading this way to ensure Guerra has what you seek. Longer: This is your standard neighborhood Italian deli. Many many cuts and types of protein, a few produce items, variety of Italian made jarred delicacies, some pre-made to-go sandwiches/potato salad/etc, plus your average canned/bottled drinks. I've conveniently rolled in (a few times) for a sandwich while in the area as well as driven out of our way 20+ minutes (in the rain!) seeking guanciale. And yes, we were able to find a variety of guanciale that worked well enough in our carbonara, phew! Given I spend a fair amount of time in the area, I was hopeful this could be a go to sandwich stop for me. For better or worse, there's something about the Italian sandwich at The Yellow Submarine that makes that my go to to itch any cured meat craving, and therefore, I need to be reallyyyyyy craving cured meats to stop in Guerra. That being said, if you prefer a deli meat sandwich *un* toasted, this might be just the place for you. Guerra has make your own sandwiches, a few they've created and named, daily sandwich specials every day, in addition to seasonal (ie one particularly rainy day I stopped in and they had a hot link sandwich special for that day). Not much ambiance to speak of, aside from very tight quarters for both patrns and employees. Be sure to bring your patience, as the employees can only do so much with the space they have to work with (and with each other). Service is anywhere from forgetable to great. I get it, I've had a job dealing with paying customers...some days you just cannot plaster the fake smile no matter how hard you try. They would prob rather be butchering in the back vs. interacting, but gotta pay the bills to keep roof overhead and food in bellies. I get it. I hope other customers do, too. I've seen some special Italian items you won't find in any sorta standard grocery store, but will find at others in North Beach, etc. around town. I like to pop in just to see what there is to see, as my sister married an Italian and we love to spend time sharing food xD

Came back today to buy 3 lunch sandwiches. There was already a queue lined up to order! I didn't mind waiting! Chatted with a few customers and got some suggestions. We enjoyed the Signature Mortadella, Guerra's Roasted Turkey, and the Turkey Bacon Club sandwiches with everything, on Dutch Crunch bread! Very satisfying, fresh and delicious!!!

    Top sirloin steaks.

Old skool butcher with all your carnivore needs! We especially love their oxtail, ground beef, top sirloin steaks, lamb chops, house made pasta bangers, broth; do I need to continue? Haven't tried their sammiches but we will soon Support local!!!

Being a native San Franciscan, I can probably count on just one hand how many times I've been here to shop! Well it's early January and we were searching for a 15-20 lb whole turkey. Whole Foods - nope, a number of Safeways - nope. I was going to call Bryan's on California when the light bulb clicks and I tell my wife Guerra's on Taravel and a quick call speaking with Aaron confirmed that they had a Diestel bird for 16+ lbs for $67. Perfect and within 15 mins we picked it up and a nicely shaped bird it is.

Before I came here, if you had asked me for the name of a high quality, family-run meat market in San Francisco, I would've hemmed and hawed and still not come up with a reasonable answer. Yes, I am a carnivore but mostly when somebody else is cooking the meat. Check, please! Gee, I haven't grilled anything in eons, but now I have an answer. I may even end up wearing a chef's hat and one of those long aprons that say something irreverent like 'I LIKE MY BUTT RUBBED' on the front. But before I do that, I should share that I was taking a long walk on Taraval and thought it looked promising from across the street. I really had nothing in mind to buy before entering the front door. Several customers were ahead of me, so I had time to peruse the long display cases of meat as well as the produce, dairy products, and beer on the other side of the shop. Helped by the friendly staff, I was frankly entranced by the wide selection and impulsively bought a couple of Artichoke & Garlic Chicken Sausage (photo: https://yelp.to/OzIztjtYjH) and a couple of prepared items - Chicken Parmesan and Eggplant Parmesan (photo: https://yelp.to/e9ZYVvZCvH). I didn't realize I was buying dinner for the next few days, and all the food turned out to be quite delicious. I grilled the sausage and cut it into slices in a homemade pappardelle dish. I just heated the parmesan dishes and saved myself the time to prepare them. So go ahead and ask me the name of a high quality, family-run meat market in San Francisco. I have an answer. FOOD - 5 stars...everything I bought here was fresh and delicious when I got home AMBIANCE - 4.5 stars...temptations abound in a small space SERVICE - 5 stars...quite helpful and friendly TOTAL - 5 stars...I do like my butt rubbed RELATED - Exploring the Sunset? Well stocked butcher/grocer. Helpful staff. Happy they had filet migon on sunday. Not happy we had to trim the steaks. Lots of tendon, silver skin, and gristle. 24.7g to be exact. From five steaks.

Best butcher/deli around sunset. Sandos could use some layering btw meats for a better bite but that's it.

Great variety of meats, seafood and deli items. A true find. Usually easy parking. Stuffed pork chops are the best!

I have seen Sea Bass there once in a blue moon, price is always dependent on supply. Dang , time to ask my wife to keep an eye out, salivating just thinking about the sear.

It is also the oldest corned beef company established in San Francisco as well. We only like to get our Povi from Roberts Corned Meats because the quality of it beats anywhere else. I've tried other Povi Masimas and can taste the difference. NOBODY and I mean NOBODY is touching Robert's Corned Meats. The gentleman Edgar I believe was his name had helped us as we did an over the phone order for 8 whole boxes and asked them to seal each one as we were sending the boxes to family overseas. The transaction was very fast as always! Sign a paper, provide the money and wait for your boxes to come out. Boom, done! Each time we get an order, the worker always provides the service to load our car with the Povi which is such a huge plus! We really appreciate the generosity and great service each visit! This is why this place gets such a high rating, the service is top tier and the meats are top notch! The parking is super rough as it's on one of the busiest streets in the city near the freeways but trust me it's worth the struggle. There is an alleyway around the corner of the building you can park in but it is a hit or miss. It is also cash preferred/only as well! The inside of the place is always clear and neutral setting. I love that it has so many old school pictures to view! It's also very clean as well! They offer so many other meats as well, sausages, bacon, linguica, pastrami, brisket, beef tongue, pork legs and cooked meats. I might be missing a few but I'm telling you, this is the place to get your meats. It's truly worth it! There is a reason Roberts Corned Meats are still in business for so many years, they are the real deal. Thank you Roberts Corned Meats for your amazing service and items served, you've placed a mark on a lot of us Polynesians - specifically my Samoan people. The functions won't ever be the same without your Povi Masima! I hope you all look into this place and love it just as my family and folks do. You won't regret it.
