I have been a patient at Dr. Rosenbaum and Associates for roughly 20 years, which makes it…read moredisappointing to write this review, but the practice has changed dramatically and not for the better. Over two decades, I have seen more than 10 different dentists come and go. That level of turnover alone suggests there are internal culture issues. About 10 years ago, one dentist told me I had decay visible on an X-ray and recommended a crown. I agreed. After grinding my tooth down to a nub, he said to the assistant, "Huh, there is no decay." That procedure still cost me around $600 out of pocket even with insurance. I filed a formal complaint with the office manager at the time. That manager is no longer there either. In the past couple of years, the entire staff has been replaced. My longtime hygienist left, and I was assigned a new one. She was very young but polite and did a decent job. I would rate her about a 7.5 out of 10. The issue is not the individual staff members. It is the overall experience and direction of the practice. This office used to feel welcoming. Everyone knew my name, and I knew theirs. It felt personal. Now it feels like a corporate assembly line. Even the patient volume seems to reflect this change. Years ago, parking was difficult to find and the waiting room was full. Now there are plenty of open parking spaces and far fewer patients waiting. At every visit, they now require you to complete a full medical history on an iPad, even if you have been a patient for decades and nothing has changed. I found this intrusive and asked if I could opt out and simply notify them of any changes, especially since I was only there for X-rays and a routine cleaning. The staff member handing me the iPad rolled her eyes and walked away. Another staff member later told me they would not see me unless I completed it and claimed this was required by federal HIPAA law. After researching this myself, I learned this is their internal policy, not a legal requirement. In other words, I was misinformed. I would have absolutely disclosed any relevant health changes, particularly anything that could affect anesthesia, even though no anesthesia was being used that day. The interaction felt unnecessary, cold, and dismissive. After that visit, I canceled my next appointment and booked with a new dentist closer to my home. I am genuinely looking forward to a fresh start. It is unfortunate to walk away after 20 years, but this practice no longer feels like the place it once was.

They confirmed what occured was "weird" and that I should seek a second opinion. First, the lady (who at the time I thought was the hygienist, but when i spoke with the office today they said she wasn't a hygienist?) who assisted with my cleaning before seeing the dentist seemed unsure of what she was doing. I asked for recommendations on how to improve my oral care as I struggle with weak enamel from being born premature. I was not given much information besides just flossing. At my appointment I had asked if i needed the brackets/ composite from my failed Invisalign from several years ago removed at their practice or if I should consult with an orthodontist. I was told directly by the dentist "I can take care of that for you" and he shaved them off with a drill. The dentist left a large amount of the composite still on my teeth which I didn't realize till the dentist stepped out. He also missed a significant amount of the tartar behind the back of my bottom teeth that I noticed once I left the office (I pointed out my concern for this area prior to my cleaning due to crowding). I also brought up my concern for the areas in my gums where I have noticed receding. I wasn't recommended a deep cleaning or referral given for periodontist. Even if my insurance didn't cover it, this is care that should have been discussed. The dentist was kind and comforting, but the care was rushed and lacking. After the dentist left, I informed the assistant that I still felt brackets (what i was referring to them as because nobody corrected me it's called composite). She looked confused as to how to handle this and said "ummm I can go ahead and get it for you" this made me nervous but I trusted her. I showed her where they were on my front teeth by touching it with my finger tip and then removing it. She then went over it with her own gloved fingers, but I could feel her drilling over the areas between the composite missing the areas I pointed out. When I got back to my car I saw scratch marks on my teeth where they had drilled. While still in the parking lot, I called to inform them of these concerns and they recommended I come back. At this point I was very concerned with the care I received and waited to follow up with my orthodontist before coming back to City Dental. I just had my ortho appointment today, and after he voiced concern and said he thought my experience was "weird" I called this dental office back to voice my concerns. The interactions I had today on the phone solidified my concerns with this practice. I explained to the first person on the phone what had happened at my appointment. They tried telling me they don't remove Invisalign brackets/ composite and that the dentist did it "as a favor/ courtesy to me, but it is not a standard thing they do". This was NEVER told to me at my appointment and the dentist made it sound like a routine care they provide. If it had, I would have denied the removal and waited for the orthodontist to do it with no issues. I tell the individual there is an issue then because I was not given informed consent about this, and it was just provided to me without that knowledge so I let the dentist do it. She said she would talk to the dentist and get back to me. This response made me increasingly concerned and I decided to call back shortly after to get more information. The next person I talked to said the same thing but was very rude. She INSISTED that was not something they offered. I voiced my concern for the possible damage done to my enamel and the scratch marks I still had. When I asked if they would cover the cost to get it fixed the lady became even ruder. She stated that they would not be responsible because "this isn't something they routinely offer and he was doing it to be nice/ as a favor". Her tone was rude, dismissive, and I felt gaslit. There are MORE ISSUES but I have reached my character limit.

I recently called for an emergency wisdom tooth that was extremely painful. Yes, Dr. Acosta referred me months ago to have it removed, but life got busy and took the best of me lol. Anyhow, thankfully they had an opening to see me. I thought I was going in to take a look at it, but the same day Dr. Acosta was able to pull it out. Not only did I not feel anything from the numbing to removal (which took 10 seconds), he was kind enough to help me as he knew I was paying out of pocket. Truly appreciate Dr. Acosta and his team!
