We were very detailed what we were looking for and what we needed done. Joe, individual giving us The estimate did not give us any indication that what we wanted could not be done and an estimate was given.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. We arranged a day for the work to be done and when the guy showed up to do the trimming the individual doing the trimming explained that he cannot do the work as we wanted because it could kill our Jacaranda. Great experience with this business. They were first selected to remove a Palo Verde tree as I am getting solar panels. I asked about vitex bushes and last weekend Dan Riggs worked for several hrs putting them in. So pleased with the results and see what a difference these new shrubs are going to make in my backyard. I hired Valley Tree Masters to trim and thin out apx 20 trees on my one acre lot I think heart of Scottsdale. The crews came out and did a GREAT job. When they left, the property was actually cleaner then when they started. I was so pleased with their work I immediately hired them to do another property in Chandler. The guys were able to come out the next business day to give a quote on removing one tree and trimming another, which was lower than other places we had looked. We were able to schedule for the next day! Couldn't believe how fast the whole process was. We just had a great experience with Valley Tree Masters removing a 50ft Elm Tree, a 25ft Cactus and another good sized palm tree. They gave us a fair priced quote last week, scheduled for this morning. They arrived early, started prepping and going at it! This company actually deserves ZERO stars for not showing up or not showing up on time! I looked for a tree service to trim two large trees on my property. I called Valley Tree Masters and Joseph came to give me an estimate. So far so good. We agreed on their crew coming out a few days later and I stayed home from work to accommodate their time frame. Well, the agreed upon time came and went and no crew showed up. Upon inquiry, Joseph was as clueless as me, he did apologize and we agreed upon a different morning. Again, I stayed home from work, only to get a text that their crew is running a little bit later than agreed upon. I still accepted it. However, when I got yet another text, that they are now going to be even later than initially projected, I had enough. I was a little frantic because a saguaro cactus blew over and a portion was in the street. The house is on a corner and I was so afraid a car would come around the corner and have an accident. I contacted Joe at Valley Tree Masters. He made contact with Chris. Chris got out to the property in a short time and got the cactus out of the street. The next day he hauled this huge cactus off the property, I will keep Chris and Valley Tree Masters in my contacts for further tree service. Get what you pay for ? "Valley Tree Masters"? The Good: great price, and a lot of work done. Unfortunately, the good work in the trees is marred by poor management and procedures. First, the printed description which accompanied our estimate says the first meeting will be with the company's Owner - this did not happen. Second, They showed up very late in the morning scheduled, and only after multiple calls did we get some idea when to expect them. Third, due to the late start they could not finish that Friday, and promised to come back Saturday morning - that did not happen, again with no notice, causing us to rearrange multiple schedules. They damaged lower tree limbs by dropping upper limbs on them, leaving branches obstructing street traffic. For the next three weeks whenever the wind came up we had a branch that they had cut fall out of the trees. They left tools on the ground and piled of debris in the street - totally unprofessional. Fourth, they moved 4 heavy urns to put the out of harms way from falling branches- but never moved them back. Lastly, beware of their ratings - they pay for reviews. This alone subtracts a Star. Their website and brochure is well written - advertising just what you want to hear. They claim "an A rating from the Better Business Bureau". I could not find a company with the name "Valley Tree Masters", but found matching the phone number and owner's name and saw a "B-" rating for "American Tree Masters, LLC". The Arizona Corporation Commission lists the business as: "Inactive. Reason for Status: Administrative Dissolution - No Valid Known Place of Business Address. Status Date: 9/9/2015" All this calls into question their claim to "$2 Million liability and worker's compensation insurance policies". Perhaps you like together a copy of their certificate of insurance, before hiring them. All of the above is essentially the result of very poor management and lack of attention to detail, and probably by simply being rushed from job to job. These are fixable problems, so if you run into these same issues - then they just don't care. read more

I received a quote from them last week that was fair. I needed trees trimmed in the front and backyard. They scheduled to come on a Wednesday, but called that day and said their truck broke down. They promised to be at my house the next day, but in the late afternoon they called and said they couldn't make it again. They then said they might be able to schedule me for the next day. I have mixed feeling about this company. One guy was a complete asshole who actually refused to do the job correctly. Another guy went back and did the job as he was asked which saved me from having to hire a lawyer. So I was grateful for that. Then he asked me out on a date which I thought was pretty unprofessional. I had to haul all the branches out of my yard by myself and I ended up hurting my back and neck. It appears that American Tree Masters is now Valley tree Masters or Valley tree Pros. My property was done by a new crew that the owner had hired as they rapidly expanded their company. The quality was inexcusable e horrible I have very expensive damage to the entire landscape of my backyard trees in a very expensive home in Scottsdale. I called and they assured me that they would come by and at least fix the lighting that they smashed. I did not pay this company for their services, but my experience makes me glad I did not. I responded to an ad for free woodchips. Wanting them for mulch for my garden, I was excited about the prospect of getting some for free. Via email, I was told I would get a call "by the end of the week" to gather info. A week went by, no call, so I email again. I received an apology and was told that I would get a call soon. I did get a call, but missed it, so I called back. After ringing about 20 times, the phone finally answered and I get told I'm talking to the answering service who has no idea what I'm talking about. But in the next day or so, I receive another call that I managed to answer. We go over my address and whether the amount of woodchips would be fine and where they should be placed. The lady asks whether I need them by a certain date. "Anytime in March will be fine." I tell her. I got confirmation that I'd get chips in March. She says that they may or may not call before dropping off the chips, which I say is fine. March goes by. Nothing. Then over a month later, in April, I get a call and voicemail from Dan out of the blue asking if I still want woodchips They have a load ready that day. Yes!!! So I called back (supposedly on his direct number) literally within 2 minutes of getting this call. Again, the phone rings forever and the answering service picks up (so much for direct number). I leave my name, number, and that it's about the woodchips. They'll send out the message ASAP, I'm told. So I wait excitedly. The day ended with no further call, no wood chips, and much disappointment. I can't get over how unprofessional the whole setup seems. If this is how they treat people who are doing favors for them (it would cost them a lot to leave their debris at the dump), how do they treat paying customers? Again, I don't mind waiting for a free product, but trying to get in touch with the appropriate person is a nightmare. read more

They are terrible. They MAKE YOU SIGN a quote that says if you cancel you have to PAY THEM A FEE. What about when they don't show up when they're supposed to? We took off the whole afternoon and had a 2:00 p.m. appt. At 4:00 p.m. we called to cancel and left a message. Tried again. Then the crew showed at 6:00 p.m. when we were just getting ready to eat. We told them to go away. They insisted they could do the job. We renegotiated the price and you can believe the boss picked up that phone call! When they were done cutting they said bye. They had no intention of taking the debris and claimed we didn't specifically negotiate for that. Snakes, big time! Well, they weren't getting the money in my hand until they took away the worst of it and then we were happy to kick them off our property and fine tune the rest ourselves. Wow. If I'd read the other reviews, I probably wouldn't have hired. My experience was this: Dan answers his phone. Other companies did not. I told him I was in a hurry and he came to give the estimate within the time I needed. I asked if he would be out or a crew and he said the crew would come back without him. The crew completed the work when promised. He did not require payment until I inspected and then allowed me to send a check as I was not on site immediately after the work. The tree was beautifully trimmed, just as he described it would be. The yard was cleaned up. There were some tiny leaves (mesquite) in the rocks, but nothing unrealistic. I can't speak to the insured part. I did not check his claims. I was in a hurry, but should have requested proof of insurance. I would hire again. read more

American Tree Masters came out to my house to take down a tree. The first experience was rough, Dan was running late, and I wasn't sure but once he got here and we talked and he showed me everything he could do I was very impressed. His crew showed up with in 30 minutes of start of the window. They took the branches off as expected to protect the houses, then took the tree down. In about 2 hours the tree was gone and stump was ground up. They cleaned up everything and with exception to the grass not being where the tree was the lawn looked better before they started! I guess you can't expect them to grow grass instantly =) I would recommend them 100% and will call them for any needs in the future! Thank you guys! read more

I appreciate honest reviews when I am searching for a service, especially one you don't often use. I can't say enough about the service provided by this company. We had 7 trees removed, from the estimate to the job getting done was beyond professional. Price was very reasonable, they showed up on time, completed the job and cleaned my yard. They even cleaned up all of the dead fallen leaves that had been there awhile. Highly recommended this company and will use them again! read more

Update 2/15/2020. I accidentally deleted the comment from the owner of this company while on my cell phone today, but his response shows what kind of business he runs! If Yelp can help get it back I would love to share it with you by copy and pasting. His reply to my review was this: "Well for a crap review like that I am glad that they messed up your lawn". Here was the original review with it's update: Miserable company with HORRIFIC customer service. Four times now they have demolished my yard while working on my neighbor's property by using my yard as their work station and they could care less. Think twice before you hire this company, it could cost you more in the long run...especially if they damage your neighbor's yard in the process. Dan won't even return a phone call acknowledging their mistake, great business man - NOT. UPDATE: 1/11/17 Dan has his employees at my neighbor's house and once again they are using my yard as their working platform. It is a shame that this idiot owner can't teach his employees that when you are being paid to work at one house, you STAY OFF THE NEIGHBORING PROPERTY! I have plenty of photos from today showing what they do to my yard every single time they work for the neighbor's house. The next time, I will be calling the police without fail. They took down 2 very large storm damaged and 1 diseased trees with stump grinding. Continuing to address 2 other large trees with potential risk of property damage due to our suddenly freak and gusting storms. I have had the trees trimmed in the past by my yard service guys, and what a difference between someone who does lawns and yards, to a service that handles very large trees in a residential area. American Tree Masters may charge a little more than another service, but here is something you should know. Imagine some guy who you hardly know with a chainsaw, ladder, and a rope, high up in a tree on your own property, and something happens. You are responsible because you are the boss. American Tree Masters is certified, credentialed, and insured, both property and their workers through individual workman's compensation. I give Dan Rigg an A rating for his time and pictures for my insurance company. I give Chris an A rating for the job he and his crew did.
