What a huge waste of time. Howard visited my home to discuss a disease or fungus that had and was killing several trees on my property. Our initial meeting was great and he seemed confident we'd find a solution. He asked me to send soil samples to a lab, send him the results and then we'd get together again to review and make a plan. I did as he said. Since then, nearly a year ago, I've sent a series of follow up emails, calls and even texts. I've gotten replies from his office apologizing for not responding and that Howard would follow up soon. Howard even texted me back that he was sorry he dropped the ball and would call me that afternoon. Nothing. ever. Since then another tree has died and I'm afraid the one next to it will fail soon. Let me start by saying HW Tree has helped me remove 2 large trees from my property in the past and I have been satisfied with this company for a long time, which is why I contacted them first to remove a very aggressive volunteer mulberry tree from my vegetable, herb and flower gardens I cultivate to feed myself. Dakoda, who has quoted me in the past came over on the scheduled date to look at the job. 3 days went by and I had no estimate. I followed up with Brittany about a quote, she said she would follow up with Dakoda. 3 more days and nothing. This tree volunteered in my gardens with some mulch and I encouraged it to grow, but I had no idea it was a non-fruit bearing and was going to get so large with a very very aggressive root system. I can only assume that the ghosting means they do not want to remove the tree. I am sad to say goodbye to HWTC, I used to think they cared about the customer more than the tree, but apparently my needs are second to what they think is moral to a tree. We have (had) a Sweet Acacia tree that has been slowly dying. It's been leaning little by little, more and more. We were afraid of it falling and maybe hurting someone if they were walking by. I researched several companies, got three quotes and decided to go with Heartwood due to price, timing, prior reviews and the young man who originally came to give the quote. Very informative and personable. They showed up this morning On Time! Wow, that was nice. They were very mindful of the surrounding bushes and cactus and didn't hit the water line. They took the tree piece by piece, ground down the large stump, blew out debris, swept the walkway and left things as clean as possible. My mom even offered an extra tip and he wouldn't accept it. We did give them a tray of brownies and that was alright. Lol Very professional company. I highly recommend them. They also do other tree services as their website probably explains more in detail. Had this company come out for a quote second week of November. I was ready to drop a substantial amount to improve existing trees and wanted to add 8-10 more palms and trees. Howard, the owner seemed very knowledgeable and spent a lot of time walking my yard and told me about every tree in it, suggested trees to plant etc. I was ready to hire this company just based on his knowledge. I was told they were behind and it would be about a week before I got the quote. I patiently wait a week..then 2 weeks pass, so I contact them saying still waiting on quote. It is now week 3 and no one has contacted me. Guess they don't need my business. Wasted my time and theirs. Very disappointing. UPDATE 12/17/24: Was contacted within minutes of the above negative review, Britney apologized and said she would get the quote I requested weeks ago to me the same day. They were very quick to respond even though it was late at night, I wasn't expecting a response until the morning. They were very fair in their pricing. Even though cranes were already heavily booked due to the storm, the owner did what he could to get one booked to get the tree off our roof as soon as possible. From start to finish, Howard and his crew did a professional and thorough job. He explained everything that he was going to do and followed through exactly. We were sent reminders of our appointment and they showed up early to do the job, which was great. They answered all our questions and were very knowledgeable. We ended up having to have 3 beautiful Mexican fan palms taken out because of the placement in our backyard. Thirty years ago when they were planted, it was a good idea. But now, they were causing damage to the pool structure and to the wall between us and our neighbor. I was sad to see them go and hear of the birds that got displaced, but it had to be done. Howard and crew were careful to do minimal damage to existing landscaping and cleaned up best they could. The only bad thing was the state of the pool when they left. The debris, sawdust and stones that got knocked in turned the pool a very dark green and made it difficult to clean. But alas, we did it! We opted to leave the tree stumps and plan on putting some beautiful new bushes in that area. If you are looking for a certified arborist who will talk to you about your bid, Howard is your man. I called regarding a tree in my backyard, assuming it was something had to be taken out. I've spoken to two other companies, and when hardwood came out, very knowledgeable courteous young man shared his thoughts. He said the tree will not continue towards your foundation because there's no water, he showed me where it was already turning. he suggested we hydrate/give nutrients to the trees which I will do as he suggested. read more

I called Heartwood to do a health assessment on a tree in my backyard that looked like it was dying after I replaced grass with artificial turf. Dakota, a certified arborist from Heartwood, dropped by to assess the tree. He let me know the tree (a Sissoo tree) was not dying, and in fact had new leaves ready to bloom for the upcoming season. He also walked me through some things to watch out for if I did decide to replace the tree, as well as answer any questions I had. Dakota was friendly, easy to talk with, and super knowledgeable about tree care and health. We had a quote where an arborist drew up a plan for what we needed. The arborist was not on site during our service. A language barrier with the crew leader resulted in him not understanding the arborists directions that were written out for our quote/service plan, which which resulted in errors. Management apologized and discounted the service after I called about what happened. read more

Not only did this company not do a thorough job, but they admittedly damaged our property. Before we had the work begin, we stressed that we wouldn't do it if it would damage the light install we had recently done in March by another company. Howard assured is that they were able to take care of our tree without damage. Well, they wrecked our light install. Howard admitted that his negligence caused the damage but tried to insinuate that maybe the light company had fault. They stalled coming over four or five times after we basically had to babysit the requests. When he could not repair the damage I told him he needed to contact the company we used for the lights. He paid them a fraction of what we paid for their install. The light company employee told us the lights were still broken and even had their employee point out which ones were damaged . Howard then responded to our review online claiming it was a wire and not a broken light issues. That it was a small issue. He lied and said that the light company fixed the damage and signed off on it and said it was working properly. A blatant lie. He claimed we didn't pay the bill. Ludicrous. They understood we wouldn't be submitting payment until they rectified the issue and addressed the damage. We now have an invoice and we NEVER once claimed it wouldn't be paid. Howard chose to slander us in response to the Google review we left. He took on a job he wasn't qualified to do and then was miserable and unpleasant to deal with. We were treated rudely and unfairly. We even asked OUTRIGHT for a discount on the work due to the damage, inconvenience, months without lights etc. It's really disappointing to put your trust in a business and then be taken advantage of this way. We are certain Howard will respond with more untruths but at this point- we expect nothing less. read more

Despite a mix up on the day scheduled, Brittani called me and got things back on track a few days after. The crew arrived and walked my job with me and I indicated that I wanted them to really take care of my cactus and succulents under two large trees they were trimming. Well every tree trimmer in my life has been all "no problem" but once in the tree care little about where stuff drops. To be honest I know how hard it is but I go out of my way to stress that point. Heartwood took their time and my plants took virtually zero damage from the work. For this reason alone they will get my next call.
