I had the valid prescription from our regular veterinarian, who was even willing to speak directly with the veterinarian at Massanutten to verify both the prescription and my dog's medical history. Despite that, the clinic refused to sell the prescription food unless they first examined my service dog and charged me for an office visit. This was not a request for a diagnosis or treatment--only to purchase the exact prescription diet that had already been prescribed by his veterinarian. I understand that veterinary clinics have policies and professional responsibilities, but I was disappointed by the complete lack of flexibility or compassion in a situation involving a traveling service dog with documented gastrointestinal issues. My veterinarian made every effort to verify the prescription, yet no accommodation was offered. Because of this experience, I cannot recommend this clinic. I believe they missed an opportunity to put the well-being of a service animal first, and I left feeling that helping my dog was secondary to generating an office visit. I hope they will reconsider how they handle similar situations in the future so that other traveling pet owners--especially those with service animals and established veterinary care--receive a more compassionate response.

Dr. Lisa is a gentle soul with him ( and probably every animal ) and wants to do everything in her power to make him comfortable. However, she is not one to over prescribe nor to order every test available. Such a conservative approach is very welcome. And she actually listens to me as a dog mom and takes my wants ( and budget!) into consideration.

Because I work in healthcare, I joked that we wait until something is wrong to treat and she withdrew as not understanding the joke and proceeded to berate me on my pet parenting of my beautiful and healthy dogs. Having multiple dogs live well into old age and working as a healthcare professional myself, I will never understand this type of clinician behavior. My dogs are fine and just because I refuse to subscribe to your overpriced procedures in a lackluster clinic in which front desk staff are lethargic and seemingly tired of their mistreatment as well (no one could even change the printer to print on once side), it all makes sense. There are plenty of other great alternatives in the area -- priced well and offering empathetic care to pets and owners alike. I will be pursuing new care for my pets immediately.

After visiting three times with my girlfriend I'm a believer in this place, their staff is nice and helpful and animals seem to be of quality. They have had some really cute puppies here, and their prices are very good for a retail shop. They allow you to play with the puppies and get accustomed to them, which is critical in figuring out if the dog is right for you. Their setup is secure but laid back, it's very nice. They seem to have a vested interest in the animals which I appreciate because as a seller you have to find the balance. I'm impressed and we were so close to pulling a trigger on a beautiful puppy but will wait until she graduates from college at James Madison University. They are covered in feces, sleeping on wired flooring where they could easily get stuck, no beds, no food, and no water. The treatment of these poor puppies not even a few months old, is absolutely disgusting. The dogs are matted in their own vomit, pee, and feces. I watched a month old Dachshund puppy fall through the grates and have to attempt to get free. If the owner had to suffer through the repulsive nature that these animals are going through I'm sure he or she would view things a lot differently.
