1 Star -- The Beginning of a Horror Movie…read more We stopped here on 8/8 for my bachelorette weekend, and honestly, this felt less like a restaurant and more like the beginning of a horror movie. My girlfriends and I all ordered the French onion soup. The cheese was burnt, there was what looked like an entire soggy slice of bread floating in the cup, and the "caramelized onions" were actually rough-chopped white onions with absolutely no flavor. But bad soup happens, so we tried to overlook it. Then we noticed the dead flies in the windows... and the live ones flying around our table. We spent the meal constantly swatting them away from our food. Then one friend went to the restroom. When she came back, we could literally hear her shoes sticking to the floor with every step -- squish, stick, squish, stick -- all the way back to our table. We came in celebrating my bachelorette weekend expecting a fun night with good food and drinks. Instead, we got burnt soup, soggy bread, flavorless onions, dead flies, live flies, and floors apparently held together by grease and adhesive. If this restaurant were the opening scene of a horror movie, I can already hear the narrator: "They thought they were just stopping for dinner... they were wrong." Management seriously needs to address the cleanliness and sanitation. This wasn't just disappointing -- it was genuinely disgusting. We will not be returning.

The website has a whole page talking about how the Inn at Vaucluse Spring has "the best breakfast in Virginia." My wife saw this and it was a major reason she asked me to make a reservation. But I didn't know this when I made the reservation and hadn't seen the website. So when I called and the owner told me that the breakfast would be delivered in the room, I didn't think think anything of it. As it turned out, the "breakfast" was a collection of thoroughly mediocre food picked up at the grocery store--yogurt, bagels, orange juice. The yogurt wasn't event especially fancy. As a result, my wife was disappointed. The host did offer to give us a discount on our stay to compensate for the disappointing breakfast. But he refuses to change the misleading information on his website. To this day, the website brags, falsely, about having "the best breakfast in Virginia," creating the likelihood that other customers will be misled in the future. I could understand if it was still May 2020 and they just hadn't had time to make the change. But the pandemic has been underway for almost a year at this point. It could easily go for another year. And I think it's unethical for a business to knowingly publish inaccurate information on its website.

They are located on over 100 acres and have several different properties to choose for your stay, we stayed in the manor house and we're glad we did. The manor house has a back porch with rocking chairs, it was perfect to sip lemonade and eat cookies (they offer mid-afternoon snacks too). I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a weekend getaway in Virginia (its about an hour and 20 minutes outside DC area).

Perfect for a couple traveling with child or a group having that 3rd wheel. Highly recommend. The B&B is large but only holds 3 rooms making breakfast time quaint. Phil and Sandy, the owners, were fabulous hosts. We actually found a stray cat and they helped us take her home. My dress broke and Sandy sewed up my straps. It was probably the best 5 star service I have had a hotel. There is also a beautiful garden/backyard area, pool, firepit, relaxing porch, lovely sitting room, wine bar, water bar and basically anything you want from the kitchen. By far, one of the most relaxing and awesome stays I've had on a vacation. Highly recommend. Circling back to things to do in Front Royal, here is what we did: Dinosaur Land, Wine Tasting @ Wineries (take a cab from Yellow Cab. The bed was one of the most comfortable we've ever slept on. The linen were 500 count sheets. The bath had Egyptian cotton towels and robes. The food was good. Our hosts accommodated our being vegetarians nicely. The building is a registered historical place. Built in 1869 by an industrialist from Scranton, PA, it has an interesting story. Phil and Sandra renovated the building over the past 10 years and have a picture album to share that experience and the history of the house. Visiting Front Royal in February limits the activities one can get involved with but we found two good used book stores (Royal Oak and Page Master) to browse through, and a good local restaurant (Element) for dinner. In addition, Main Street has a number of interesting shops and eateries to visit. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and the friendly owners, and would recommend this business to others.

Extra. How about spend a day at the beach? Extra. Got some laundry to do? Extra, and a walk to the other side of the building. Want to use WiFi? Extra. The place is definitely adequate. It was clean, although there are no housekeeping visits during the week. Instructions are to dump all the trash and strip all the beds before you leave, and return the key to the office 3 miles away. Not horrible, but I don't feel I should have to do all that, especially when there is an envelope for a tip for housekeeping ??!!?? For what??? Not your typical/automatic sorry about yalls experience in our cabin, or welp sucks to be you, nope no response what so ever! The kicker is, my gal Amber has a rare genetic lung condition called alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency. So things like dust, certain pet dander, smoke, and absolutely mold/mildew in the air. Is very hard on her lungs and her body! She is now nearly a wk later, starting to feel a small amount of relief. From our wknd getaway to hot tub (not quite) heaven! Disclaimer: My review herein, is not to get any kind of future free stays. As we are not interested! It's also not to get any money back. As funds received should definitely be used, to take much better care of cabins! Nor is it to cause Tom and Deneane to loose business. It is simply to make others aware of potential conditions as these. A group of 16 of us booked for the weekend and I honestly can't think of enough great things to say. Seriously, everything about this place was AMAZING! I organized the trip, so I got to work with one of the owners, Jesse, to get everything set up. He was helpful, responsive, accommodating, and really kind. I organize a lot for my friends and myself, and this was one of the easiest. Upon arrival we were checked in by the other owner, Gary, who immediately made us feel like we were at home. He gave us a wonderful tour of the property and told us everything we needed to know for a wonderful stay. This property is nestled in the hills of WV and the views are STUNNING! Every space and room is beautifully appointed, really leaning into the upscale rustic vibe you'd expect in a mountain retreat. So many beautiful nooks and crannies to sit and read or play games or just nap. The pool and hot tub are gorgeous and Logan at the pool bar will take amazing care of you! They provide a complimentary breakfast of freshly cooked eggs, meats, and biscuits/scones. The lunch and dinner menus are varied and everything we had was delicious. Our servers, Rain (spelling ??) and Angie were stellar and the ambience was just perfect. Every single one of us left feeling refreshed and we were all sad to leave. A winding road through a rocky valley with a mountain stream that flows to the Lost River. Then you turn into the Guesthouse and the stunning main building and cute cabins are so perfectly placed on the property with lovely landscaping. Walk into the main lobby to be greeted by Gary, one of the owners. He was super pleasant and took us on a tour of the property pointing out the dining room, bar, pool (although it was still closed for winter), hot tub and sauna, gym, multiple media rooms, game rooms and lounge areas, and then our room in the Hobson Cabin. The room was well appointed and clean. The shower was beautiful and had great water pressure and temperature. The balcony had wonderful views of the parks close by. A country breakfast is served daily at 9 and is a great start to the day. The dining room is open in the evening for drinks and dinner with a menu for anyone! Gary and Jesse are always close by if you ever need anything and make you feel most welcome. We can't wait to visit again in the summer so we can make full use of the pool and enjoy some nearby hiking!
