5 star experience start to finish. Came here on a friends recommendation for anniversary dinner while staying in nearby Charles Town casino. We should have stayed at Bavarian Inn ! Fantastic German food and exceptional staff made a memorable experience. We toured the beautiful property and love the infinity pool and bar. My wife kept saying in the car ride back to Charles Town " We should have booked our room here instead of that casino" She is already planning a return visit !

    Weinerschnitzel with mushroom sauce. Recommend.

Went last Saturday with a group of 14 people. We sat outside and had drinks until everyone arrived. Our waitress was very sweet and worked hard to make us happy I had the weinerschnitzel, but with the mushroom gravy. Really enjoyed the crunch of the schnitzel, and the smooth sauce. It came with red cabbage (great) and speatzle (good). Forgot to mention the breads and butters. I wouldn't have been happy eating just that! Others in our group had the sauerbraten, pork chop, Jaegershnitzel, onion soup, abs sausage sampler. They thought the pork chop was too thin, but enjoyed the other dishes. The chocolate cake looked great. We shared the warm apple strudel with ice cream and loved it. Would recommend.

Thanksgiving 2025 at the Bavarian Inn was a total win! We dined in the formal Dining Room, and from the moment we walked in, it felt like stepping into an old-world holiday postcard. Cozy, festive, and full of charm. Our reservation shifted from four to three at the last minute, and the staff couldn't have been more gracious--seated promptly and with zero fuss. Service throughout the meal was warm and welcoming. We all started with the Curry Crab Soup. While it leaned a bit tepid and salty for my taste (my friend agreed--my husband loved it!), the entrées absolutely stole the show. My Prime Rib was fabulous--perfectly cooked and full of flavor. My husband and our friend ordered the Jaeger Schnitzel, and wow... absolutely wonderful. This kitchen clearly knows how to handle meat. Dessert sealed the deal. We shared pecan pie and Black Forest cake, and while both were good, the Black Forest cake was outstanding--rich, classic, and the perfect grand finale . After dinner, we took a six-mile stroll along the Potomac and then circled back for beers at the bar--because why not end a great Thanksgiving on a high note? A fantastic day all around. Highly recommend for families, special occasions, or anyone craving a festive, feel-good meal. We're already talking about coming back over Christmas weekend!

This is a review on their 2025 Christmas Menu Service was great and the food came out the kitchen quite quickly with no delays. Food was delicious - the only criticisms were that the 2nd course of winter salad was over dressed and that the asparagus was over done and very soggy. Other than that the meal was delicious and a great Christmas Eve meal for our family.

The Bavarian Inn is the spot to go in the Tri-State area for great German cuisine! Their Sauerkraut Garnished (a selection of sausages that are out of this world), the Jager Schnitzel and the Reuben sandwich are some of the gems available in this comfortable setting reminiscent of an Alpine lodge. Whichever item(s) you choose, prepare to be happy! Appetizers (the crab pretzel...yessss), entrees, and desserts are hard to choose from, because everything is THAT good. Their wait staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. The food, atmosphere, and service are stellar! Don't wait! Go!

"This place gets 7 stars for the house cat alone." I believe this is one of the few places that I've always wanted to visit and for a long time but hadn't yet because tbh I had planned on it several times over the years but each and every time something happened and caused me to cancel or was that God making me wait to come with my bestie. We were supposed to stay here on my birthday a couple months ago but we opted for another place due to the weather not cooperating for the adventure we wanted to go on for that specific trip. We were heading to a cafe to grab a coffee and something light to eat when we happened to drive by it without even thinking about it on that particular day and I am so glad we did too. This is such a special place. It was like stepping back into another time. The whole atmosphere is dreamy and every employee I encountered were very welcoming and friendly. We were just wanting to come in for a beer and enjoy the views of the river while sitting outside but we ended up ordering that Bavarian Brother's Crab Pretzel and OMG was it amazing. They also brought us some house made bread with a couple different butters and they too were amazing. We ordered a flight of beer with four of their tasty beers but also ordered the BAVARIAN BROTHER'S PRICKLY PEAR CIDER for my girlfriend and she hasn't stopped talking about how good it was and how it is her favorite beer that she's ever had and the funny thing is she didn't even like beer before she met me, haha ;) This place is an absolute gem and I can't wait to come back and stay and enjoy everything this place has to offer this summer, and most likely fall, surely during the winter, and most definitely in the spring. I don't know what that amazing little cats name is but it definitely loved that crab meat on the pretzel and I was very happy to share it with it and I look forward to sharing my next meal with it too. Btw: is it a she or he? Thanks for the great service, spectacular food, and top notch beer. We'll see you again very soon...

Hidden treasure. Cool place, great food. The bread and spread started was delicious. Best soft pretzels cooked perfectly. We tried the Lobster, Shrimp, Crab Roll sandwich with fries, and Brother's Burger with potato salad, and got the Apple Strudel to go. Chad was our server. He did an excellent job and was super friendly. Found another great place tonight. We will be back to try more delicious meals. The setting was relaxing and offers both indoor and outdoor seating.

We booked a one night stay at the Bavarian Inn as a summer getaway. We had not been there for many years. The location on the cliff overlooking the Potomac can't be beat. We asked for a Potomac view room, and they gave us Room #34, which had a wonderful view. The room was very clean, the beds were comfy, and the bathroom has been modernized. (The only hiccup we had was in operating the TV--we had trouble getting basic channels or using our streaming accounts). We arrived about an hour and a half before the 4 pm checking time, so we got a couple of beers and sat outside to enjoy the views. They called shortly after that our room was ready, so we had an extra hour at the pool, which is awesome. There are plenty of lounges and umbrellas, the water temp was perfect, and the guy from the pool bar brought around complimentary fruit skewers. We felt very spoiled. The infinity pool directly overlooks the river, so you can see kayakers way down below. This morning, we had their included continental breakfast out on the patio. It was lovely. We played a little pickleball, read for a while at the pool, and were then sad to go. I think we will make a repeat visit next year.

The rice was severely undercooked, and although the menu advertised tiger shrimp, the shrimp served were much smaller than the tiger shrimp I've had at other restaurants. The portion and quality simply didn't justify the price. The service was even more disappointing. We were a party of 17, and it felt like our table was an inconvenience. I personally asked for water three separate times and still never received it. No one at the table had their glasses refilled. There was little to no initiative to check on our table, refill drinks, or make sure we had what we needed. Instead, it felt like our server was rushing us through the meal. I understand that serving a large party can be challenging, but if one server wasn't comfortable handling a group of this size, they should have asked for assistance from other staff. Large parties deserve attentive service just like any other table. Overall, the combination of overpriced, underwhelming food and poor service made for a very disappointing experience. Unfortunately, I wouldn't return or recommend this restaurant based on this visit.

At the time their concept was one that offered entrees from different European countries. My friend, who is a vegetarian, was pleased to find an entree that she could eat. Over the years, we never did return there for our lunch meet ups. Nor did my husband and I get there. You know...so many restaurants, so little time. We recently gave thought to the idea of having dinner there. What prompted us was due to picking up a pizza at Marcos, which is next door. We looked up their current menu while we waited for our pizza and liked what we saw. We were here on a Saturday around 5 p.m. Business was slow then but steadily picked up. We were seated and greeted. A server came around to bring water as we looked over the menu. When we were ready to give our order, an older woman, whom we think is the manager came to take it. She was very friendly, polite and efficient. We noticed that she regularly checked on all the diners. The menu is mostly German food with some elements from other cuisines. For example, you can get a Thai iced tea to go with your meal. We started out with an appetizer and chose Caprese salad. This was a simple one with 4 slices of mozzarella, 4 ripe tomato slices and a drizzle of balsamic. We both thought it was well prepared and the portion size was just right for two. Also, a small portion of bread and butter is brought to the table. For my main course, I chose Weinerschnitzel made with white meat chicken. It was accompanied with a small cup of gravy, which was meat based. Also, entrees come with a side of one's choice. I chose German potato salad. My husband got the Sausage Platter which has 3 different sausages---bratwurst, knackwurst, and baurenwurst plus some sauerkraut. He, too, chose German potato salad as his size. Also, a small cup of mustard comes with this dish. As for the food---I thought my Weinerschnitzel was well prepared and arrived while it was hot. This dish comes with 3 thin cutlets. I used the gravy which amped up the flavor. My husband really liked his sausage dish. He enjoyed each sausage and thought the mustard worked well with them. Neither of us cared for the German potato salad. While we appreciate that it is house made, we didn't like how one forkful would taste sweet while the next forkful was sour. Perhaps the dressing hadn't been mixed well. We decided to share a dessert and chose the apple strudel. This was quite tasty. It was tender and easy to cut with a fork and nicely flavored. A small cup of vanilla ice cream comes with it plus a side of whipped cream and the plate was garnished with strawberry syrup. The decor was nice with lots of artwork, including a Van Gogh poster. We enjoyed looking at the art. We both agree that we would return again. If you go, take note as the evening progresses, parking gets tight in the small lot. Just backing out of our spot was stressful. Next time, we would park further away in the same lot in a section that doesn't get crowded.

We started with Potato Cakes with crème fraiche, they had a nice crunch, a tender interior with subtle flavor. I'd never had them with crème fraiche, it was a nice change and the mild tanginess with the creamy texture complimented the Cakes well. I ordered the Main Street with Weisswurst, a Pretzel and plain Spätzle. It was my first, the veal's flavor is understated in comparison to Bratwurst or Knackwurst (not on the menu) and was a pleasant changeup. The Pretzel was little disappointing while it was a decent pretzel, it lacked the crisp crust and distinctive flavor I expected. As evident by the rating while worthy of note, it's not a game changer. I'd ordered a large plain Spätzle, which was two regular portions, but was served Spätzle with cheese I tasted it and it wasn't my thing, which is not to say it was bad, I just don't care for cheese in dishes like that. Our server swapped one cheese for plain (my wife had happily stolen the other) and enjoyed the replacement. I found that the grilled onions gave it a nice homey flavor. Mistakes happen and it turned out to be a win in the end. We shared a couple of desserts and by far, my favorite was the Black Forest Cupcake. It's on the large side, they might be able to cut on the weighty crème icing, the chocolate cake and soaked cherries were a delight. The cherries are a significant improvement over the Marchinos I had before, if only there were more. Rathskeller can get a little loud, as it is a relatively small space with hard surfaces so voices reflect, it wasn't packed this afternoon, so it wasn't an issue. My friends asked him to stop. He ignored them. This is the second time their security has unfairly targeted me. The first time I had just stepped outside to take a phone call. The same guard ran after me and started accusing me of stealing -- but couldn't say what was supposedly stolen or who had complained, because nobody actually had. I told him my laptop and jacket were inside at the bar and that all the bartenders know me. He eventually apologized once it became obvious he had nothing. Same guy, same pattern, different night.
