The best description I heard is it's a country club experience that's open to the public. Maintenance is amazing, tee boxes well taken care of, greens were fast and tricky. A couple holes protected by a big tree planted right in front of the green, kind of funky cool! Played the blue/white combo tees, up a little more than usual, wanted to have a fun first time experience. Very much look forward to another visit soon. Truly a hidden gem with a ton of PGA history. The best word I have to describe the current conditions here are neglect. Rutted cart paths full of mud. Greens pitted and unplayable, it's not good. The clubhouse is relegated to a shack with no food available. Pathetic. It's just a shame to see this happen to a course with so much history.

While there is a putting space, I haven't used it but look forward to trying it in the figure. It appears lessons are available along with regular tee times. The staff has always been extremely helpful and when purchasing balls there is also a large selection of sandwiches, beverages and snacks. Each time, I have got a water only and there are plenty of nearby garbages to toss items when finished. Lastly, the range has the big 10 sports logos on the green which will measure the distance. A couple of switchbacks on the road bring you to a ridge overlooking the Mississippi River. The tee boxes, fairways, and greens were in great shape. The forward tees were around 4800 yards which is a bit more on the shorter side but the many narrow fairways created plenty of challenges. Staff was friendly. Carts did not have GPS. We had a great experience and would gladly return for another round.

The one thing to know, is that there aren't a tremendous amount of options for their brunch, unless you do the family style. And you must be prepared to have everyone at the table order, which makes sense, it's just good to know before heading over! Service was a little slow, but I believe the server was training in. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens were well kept. There is a river that hugs a couple of holes to make it interesting. Other than one or two blind holes, as a first time player, the course was easy to understand where to hit. It was a challenging course. I enjoyed the variety or the holes. Staff was welcoming. The club house was able to accommodate our large group in the downstairs area. I am looking forward to come back and play my own ball.
