We started with the arancini as well as the house bread that's served after you're seated- both super tasty. I'm not a huge pasta fan so I ordered a grilled romaine salad (that may be seasonal because I no longer see it on the menu). I added salmon and it was great! Wow! What a great find in Versailles! We had planned to get to Rolling Oven pizza ( a family fave) but as fate would have it, they were super packed and it's too chilly to sit on the patio just yet. My wife points out Vallozzi's as we were walking back to the car, and we decided to try. We walked in and immediate love the vibe. The restaurant is gorgeous! And they were busy too. We walked up to see if we could get a table. She asked if we had a reservation and we didn't. She said they were totally booked. We were bummed but said thank you and agreed we'd come back when we did. As we were leaving, the hostess chased us down and asked if we still wanted to grab dinner, of course we said yes ...... and so began our dining journey with Vallozzis! Ashley as was our server and we took her recommendations on just about everything! The menu is varied with plenty of options. We started with the prosciutto plate and recommended wine - Teresa got the Angel Rose and I chose the Hall Chardonnay. Perfect. Our daughter had a Sprite, just to put that out there. Our daughter got the manicotti which looked fab! My wife got the Parma, and I got the special beef filet ravioli. Everything was prepared perfectly and we could not have been better service. Thanks Ashley! The ambiance is quite charming and you'll feel very comfortable being here! We needed to get dessert of course so we chose the banana tiramisu and got two of them to go! Had a lovely birthday dinner for my husband here. The atmosphere was great! The seating was a tad close when the restaurant wasn't full so more spatial awareness would have been nice. Our server was nice and the food came out fast. We had their bread with the whipped ricotta which was addicting. The Arancini was crispy and delicious. I'm a little conflicted on how many stars to give; but, I'm just going with my gut and giving it a 4. I was so excited to eat at Vallozzi's in Versailles. This review is based on my palate and everyone has their own so read this, and make the decisions that are best for you. I know that I would appreciate honesty when it comes to what I'm paying for. Let me start off by saying I love the location and ambiance of this restaurant. It is absolutely beautiful. I will say if you have reservations at 5 don't get there any earlier than 5 because the doors weren't unlocked until five and when you're standing out in the cold locked out that sucks!!!! There is some parking that is shared with the other businesses; however, they do offer complimentary valet parking if that's your style. The service was. 10/10. The hostess was friendly and prompt. Our server was amazing. She was so patient with us because there are so many different pastas I didn't recognize some of them and had to look them up. She was amazing and treated us wonderfully. So I'm gonna start with the bad. My entree the Roasted Beet & Goat Cheese Caramelle literally tasted like sweet pasta. I felt like Buddy on Elf... ya know the scene where he's putting maple syrup on spaghetti. The menu stated that it was the Caramelle which are pasta twisted like a wrapped candy filled with beet and goat cheese served with fennel, saffron butter and mint. It was so sweet. I made myself eat two and had to stop. Secondly, my daughter ordered the Roasted Pork Agnollotti with black garlic & truffle cream. Y'all it was sweet as heck. Idk if they accidentally put sugar in versus salt. They both were very sweet dishes. Not a fan at all. Now the wonderful things!!!!!! Can you say focaccia with the mosta? Their fresh focaccia with whipped ricotta drizzled with olive oil is so good. It was pillowy and salty. We ordered an extra plate of it. My son and his girlfriend ordered the Chicken Parmesan which was so delicious. My daughter and I both tried some of theirs and it was very very good! We decided to share a dessert and chose the Chocolate Cake with sweet potato mousse. Honey this cake was so good and it wasn't overly sweet. You could taste the decadent chocolate and silky ganache; but, it didn't feel like your stomach hurt from all the sugar. I could've just ate the actual cake part and nothing else. It was divine. So all in all I enjoyed Vallozzi's. I will mostly definitely go back. I think the two items we chose just weren't suited for our taste. It might be great for you. My book club likes to have a nice Italian dinner once a year, and I love the charm of downtown Versailles, so Vallozzi's was a welcome departure from the norm. It was the first visit for all 8 of us. The space is outfitted beautifully, but very dimly lit, as you'll see from my attempted food photos. We were seated in a room adjacent to what I'd consider the 'main' restaurant, down a hall that passes through a server station; it felt disjointed. This dining room was clearly the main artery to the kitchen, as the doors never stopped swinging open and shut, and foot traffic was constant. And strangely, there was either a cold food assembly or dessert station in the corner of the room, where again, an employee was working non-stop, and plated dishes were being set out for pick up right next to a table of diners. I kept hoping no one at that table sneezed. The bread and whipped ricotta (I'm guessing?) with herbs and olive oil were a delightful prelude to the meal, but I think we all indulged a bit too much. Everyone had overwhelmingly positive things to say about their cocktails and entrees. If anything, a few dishes needed more salt and one (the pizza) was thought to be too sweet, but the portions were fair and nearly everyone needed a to-go box. I opted for the manicotti, which was somehow rich and yet lacking in flavor, surprising considering the menu description. It wasn't bad, but I would try something different next time. I thought the lasagna Tuesday deal was probably one of the best values on the menu, as it came with a salad and no other pasta dish does. Despite being painfully full, several of us couldn't help but order dessert. For me, it was the Banana Pudding Tiramisu and that was the star of the show (and the envy of the table). The combination of pudding, rum soaked lady fingers, and bruleed bananas was DIVINE. I did wonder why it was served cold, but I didn't dwell long on that thought as I inhaled every bite. Our server was clearly busy and yet incredibly attentive, giving great suggestions when asked. This place fills the missing Italian spot I've been wanting / needing. The staff is so friendly and well-versed in the menu. The menu seemed to be well rounded with several options, the hardest thing was making the decision on what to get. We started with appetizers...and who doesn't like rissotto in a ball and deep fried! It was a really great rissotto with a red sauce. The zucchini wasn't my favorite only because I really like thinner cut when fried. The salads were a good Italian salad, I don't know why but when I eat pasta / Italian I always want a salad. The salads definitely hit the spot before I stuffed myself with carbs. The pastas on all three dishes were amazing, they were definitely homemade and cooked al a dente! I could probably eat just a whole bowl of the spaghetti noodles just plain! The star dish was the bolognese and the chicken Marsala chicken was perfectly cooked full of flavor! We had dessert too but we took it to go and I forgot to take a picture. I write reviews as a portion of my profession and I'm always cognizant of situation and perception. I always try to give an honest and fair report with positive aspects, even if there are moments that aren't always to my preference. We live locally and support local businesses to a fault, so when a new restaurant arrived here in Versailles, we were extremely excited. The first time we came to Vallozzi's, it had been open 3 days. There were so many issues, however, I chalked it up to growing pains. I've worked at a restaurant many times and beginnings are always tough. The second visit, over a year later, we had seriously poor service, but the crab cakes saved the entire day. Literally, my husband's seafood manicotti was on the spectrum of "low tide," but we collectively agreed that it was worth another visit, just for my meal. Again, chalked it up to our choice, our fault. Third visit was tonight and the entire menu had changed, which is absolutely fine. However, after talking to our fantastic waiter, it was not a seasonal change, but a "cut costs" change, which honestly was easy to see based on the altered selections. Our service was great, but the food was incredibly sub-par. I ordered a beet and burrata salad with shrimp that literally had 3 tiny slices of beet (less than 1/3 a small beet), a quarter size piece of cheese and 3 small shrimp. I am not cheap by any means and as a former restaurant employee, I understand the cost of food. However, $36 for a plate of arugula is grossly egotistical. My husband's food was as least proportionally decent, but was just meh in taste. It's so sad to say, but I've actually had better food "slumming it" at Olive Garden by the mall. I hate that this situation exists in our town and we will not be able to come back. For anyone on our beloved bourbon trail, I would redirect you to the many beautiful restaurants in Midway, where the food is excellent and the ingredients are top tier. Holly Hill, Gibson's, or Heirloom are all incredible. read more

My wife and I joined another couple for dinner on a recent Saturday evening looking forward to the top notch experience we had read and heard about. We did not have that experience. It wasn't a total bust, but it strayed from top notch at critical points. The good: free valet parking, a beautiful and comfortable space, friendly and welcoming staff all around, a menu with so many options that it's hard to choose, extensive wine list, cocktails and beer. We got the calamari and the arancini starters and both were prepared and served hot and delicious. Warm focaccia bread with whipped ricotta and olive oil was served, I always eat too much when the bread is good! The bad: here's where it went south... the Entrees. Two of us got the Papardelle Bolognese, one got the filet, and one got the Seafood Ziti. The Bolognese was so salty that neither of us could eat it. My fiend sent hers back after the first bite. I tried to power thru with the addition of some ricotta to soften the salt, but gave up after a few more bites. The steak was overly salty, as well, but he finished it. The Ziti was fine but far from a standout. They offered to make us new dishes but at that point in the evening, we'd had apps and bread and disappointment so we declined. They did take half the price of the bolognese off each couple's bill and comped our dessert. So they did what they could to make it up and were very apologetic. The tiramisu was ok, but lemony in flavor , which I don't expect in this dessert and no lemon component is listed on the menu. And it was overly moist... runny. All in all a mediocre dining experience. After 6 months plus, I can't grant them the "well, they're new" card. Perhaps a bad night or a mistake with the bolognese prep? I might try them again, but it's a 30-40 minute drive for us, so.... I can't say for sure. Consistency is key, especially at these prices. I hope they get there. They've got a lot going for them. But the entrees have to be winners every time. read more

2nd visit for us so straight to the chase. Arancini: Flavor was really good. Was cooked to just crispy outside but not quite enough. Served luke warm. Marinara sauce was very good. Give this dish a C+ (would be a solid B+ were it not for the luke warm presentation) Kale salad: Lots of Spaghetti squash and some butternut squash, baby spinach salad mix, candied pecans, feta cheese, pomegranate seeds. BUT, No Kale, which should be in a salad with Kale in the name. The salad was tasty but given the mislabeling, Dish gets a grade of C Ceasar salad with anchovies: Decent version. cheese was kind of bland, but anchovies were good. Had cherry tomatoes which were a strange addition This salad gets a grade of B Lobster risotto: Risotto was a bit dry and had a strong cheese flavor as in Macaroni and cheese. Came with jumbo shrimp which were good, Scallops not so good, strong ammonia smell. Would be hard not to smell them in the kitchen before dish was made so I have to believe they served bad scallops on purpose. Small specs of lobster. Dish gets a D- Orichette with Octopus, shrimp, smoked mirepoix: base was a rich marinara sauce. There were small pieces of carrot but most of the "mire" of the "poix" seemed to be missing, I.E no celery or onion I could find. Other than that, Octopus was excellent, Shrimp was good. Dish gets a B+ Grade. Really want to like this place but for the prices, every dish should shine. If my child brought home a report card with these grades, I would not be upset but I would not be happy either. If my child brought home these grades from a premier private school. I would be ashamed I spent that much money for the results. Kind of how I feel about this meal. Being honest, Hope the owners read this and make the required adjustments. Otherwise this school gets shut down and used for a community center. We eat out a lot, will monitor other reviews to decide whether to give this another chance. read more

The service was good although had to ask for refills multiple times despite there being a servers assistant as well. They give you very small cups for water so it was hard to not constantly need a refill. The atmosphere was bright and they did not have music playing which I thought was strange. On vacation and stayed at the Woodford Hotel, trying to find a local establishment for dinner. Upon arriving we were asked if we had a reservation (the restaurant was 1/3 full), to which we replied that we didn't. The hostess replied that she had to check? Not sure what she had to check on. After a few minutes she came back and asked us to wait off to the side, in order to help someone else with a take out order. About 5-10 minutes later, we were informed that we could be seated. Now moving on... We were taken to another part of the restaurant, next to the kitchen-with no one else being seated in that part of the restaurant. My wife ordered a salmon dinner, to which the salmon was raw in the middle. I ordered rigatoni with vodka sauce, topped with chicken, which was very bland at best. Upon leaving the restaurant was less full (below 1/3 capacity). Felt very unwelcomed. Southern hospitality was definitely something that was not in their vernacular. read more

I went here with a group from my office for a bit of an early Christmas lunch celebration. The ambiance was great, the restaurant was clean and had a nice cozy vibe. I got the spaghetti with meatballs and the sauce was ok, tho I am more partial to a sweeter sauce so that could absolutely be just me. The meatballs were really good and the pasta seemed fresh. My coworkers seemed to really enjoy their meals and it all looked delicious. The only thing that was kind of a bummer was there was no bread with the meal but that is absolutely my preference because I am a bread fiend. A normal person would probably not miss it. read more

Incredibly disappointing. We had high hopes for this restaurant but it turned out to be one of the worst meals we've had in a while. The location is beautiful, and the service (hosts/servers) was great...but the quality of the food was abysmal. To start, the bread they served us appeared nicely baked...but had no taste. Probably lacking salt...but the garlic/herb butter with olive oil they served it with also had an odd taste. It certainly did not taste like butter or the like. The calamari appetizer did not seem fresh; more likely frozen pre-made. The seafood risotto had a decently prepared risotto base (although the long cuts of red pepper were off-putting as they were not roasted and more likely boiled in the risotto broth) but the scallops, shrimp, and lobster tails were very rubbery, dry, and lacking in taste. Again, they seemed likely to be frozen, old, and were very overcooked. The stuffed manicotti was okayish; the cream sauce was ok and the manicotti shells were cooked pretty well, but the crab-based stuffing seemed a little off. Then the straw that broke the camel's back was the rigatoni alla vodka. The sauce tasted rancid, putrid, and scorched. We couldn't figure out why it tasted so awful and we barely ate more than a few bites. To be fair, we did not complain to the server so they weren't given an opportunity to try and make it right...but by that point it just seemed hopeless. The fact that the restaurant was effectively empty on a Saturday evening should have been a red flag. Based on the quality of the food alone it is certainly not an upscale restaurant and not remotely worth the pricing. All-in-all we had a good laugh and at least we didn't get food poisoning. The food was great I had the rigatoni and the wife had the spaghetti with meatballs. The meals tasted real exquisite with wonderful robust flavor. The service was almost good he just didn't ask us if wanted bread with our meals and didn't say anything about dessert. The manager came by checked on us and asked us about our meals and offered us dessert tho. The manager hospitality and professionalism was great, but our server he was lacking. I had the eggplant parm today for lunch, the eggplant was cut into three 2" thick medallions, making the center of the eggplant raw and chewy-nasty. There was a scant amount of cheese on the dish as well. not good, the pasta was ok but dry, not enough sauce. bread was not served with the lunch, only at dinner. Ambience not great, I sat at the bar and had to listen to some big mouths trip to Alaska, felt as though I was sitting with them, yet they were at a table about 25 ft from me. I want to start off by saying that this is the first bad review I've written, but I have never experienced a place that markets itself so inaccurately. My husband and I went there to celebrate my birthday, based on the fact that they used "fresh quality ingredients", but the fettucine amatriciana was nothing more than tomato paste made into a marinara that you can find at Domino's. My orecchiette were swimming in a sea of oil with some undercooked squash mixed in it. The two appetizers we ordered were also sub-optimal, clearly not worth being called fine dining. Our waiter and the rest of the staff were really pleasant and the ambiance was nice, but unfortunately not worth a second trip. read more

We were staying in Versailles and thought we would try a local eatery. Vallozzi's had mostly good reviews on another site so we booked a table. The service was quite okay. We were seated quickly and our server made sure we had bread service and took our drink order promptly. We ordered the Chicken Parm, the Chicken Marsala and based on the recommendation of our server, I had the Lobster Risotto. We were quite disappointed. The breading on the Chicken Parm was soft and mushy. The Chicken Marsala was okay but had an extremely heavy sauce. The Lobster Risotto was really bad. The shrimp was old and dried out and the risotto had some sort of creamy cheese sauce that was dripping in the bottom of the bowl. A real letdown. To finish our evening, neither our server nor the host asked how our meals were, even though they could clearly see that a lot was left on all of the plates. I think they knew. Anyway, hopefully they can take a closer look at what they're serving. read more

First (and definitely not the last) fine dining experience at the new Vallozzis of Versailles. The atmosphere in the front diningroom was cozy and casually elegant. On a Wednesday evening, the place was pleasantly full and humming with conversation. We started with the Arancini (mozzarella balls which were delightfully light contrary to their very large size!) I enjoyed the lobster risotto and my hubby got rigatoni alla vodka. (The pictures don't do them justice). Our server, Sophia, was outstanding. She answered all of our questions about the menu and offered excellent suggestions. Our water glasses stayed full, the wine was delicious, and tiramisu was a perfect end to the meal. 5+stars! I really wanted this place to be great. Unfortunately, this review is mixed at best. We ate here last week, so here goes. They did a great job inside and out with the renovation. It is beautiful. The staff is very attentive and professional. We enjoyed everyone we spoke to. Our burrata appetizer was quite large and very tasty. But there were several misses after that. We split the Bolognese entree and it was neither visually appealing nor tasty. The pasta was very good and cooked perfectly, but the sauce had no flavor. And I didn't care for the plating. I thought that was clumsy. I had a cocktail, which was very good. My wife chose to have a glass of wine. She had the Freakshow, which is a nice red. The pour, however, was the tiniest I have ever seen for a by the glass purchase. In fact, my wife thought it was the tasting pour to approve the wine. I am guessing one eighth bottle, and not the one fourth or so you get for house wines at most other locations. $15 for a glass of wine from a $15 retail bottle is fine, but not at that size pour. A little value please? Maybe we will give it six months and try it again. But I am in no rush. read more

If you want a great Italian dining experience, make the short drive to downtown Versailles and make a reservation on Open Table. Parking is limited but they do have valet available. The restored building is beautiful and we were seated upstairs. Our server, Hannah was very personable and efficient. She recommended a great appetizer, Arancini which tasted like risotto fried cheese balls. It was a big portion. The bread they serve is a little like cake and the cheese with olive oil on top looks like mashed potatoes. It was just ok. We were pretty full already but wanted to try the Parmesan chicken and so happy we split it. They even brought it out to us in two separate bowls. This dish is the best chicken Parmesan I have ever had! The breading was perfect, the cheese on top was great and the sauce made it special. We ordered two miller lights, a Bellini and a Cabernet. My wife and I attended this quaint place for our first anniversary. We had a wonderful time! Cozy and tucked away right in the heart of downtown Versailles, it was a refreshing option away from some of the other crowd favorites. Rich food, massive arranging, and a chocolate cake my wife said was "dense but airy". Okay. So here's the deal. Lexington, Kentucky does not have 'good' Italian food. Luckily with Vallozzi's out in Versailles, we finally have a spot that I would 100% say 'yes' to going to at the slightest hint of someone wanting to have some gotdang red or white sauce (which is cool, cause this place is definitely fine dining.) Don't get me wrong - Pasta Garage makes great quick fire red/white sauce dishes. I think ItalX makes good pasta. Giuseppe's is a quintessential old-school Italian spot. But I want some elevated cooking in the Italian school of thought. I want something that just makes you wanna do the finger pinch and say 'molto bello.' Vallozzi's is the first and only place in this area that makes me want to do that in the 12 years I've lived in this town. First off - they hit you with some focaccia (which if I'm being honest was the weakest part of the meal, it was kinda dried out), but you get whipped ricotta alongside and that stuff was pretty damn great. I mean, whipped cheese and olive oil with some focaccia to start is how to do it. Got some Aperol Spritz's because obviously. We did the burrata which for some reason came with squash and pear. Weird, but that's what makes good food is taking weird shit and making it work. It worked. They candied the squash and then charred it, then added honey-butter to pair with the burrata. I usually would skip the flourish and go straight for the cheese here, but the entire thing was great. Mains - I did the chicken parm and requested fettuccini alfredo (well, a cream/cheese sauce, not necessarily alfredo as it wasn't on the menu) on the side, rather than the spaghetti and red sauce that is usually paired. Not only did they say 'absolutely' to my request, they subbed without additional cost. Hell yah. Oh, and the best part was it was huge and amazing. One of the best chicken parms I've had in a long, long while. Great crust, well-seasoned and the accompanying pasta was damn good. Only ate half, just had the other half for lunch while writing this. My fiancée did the fusilli and commented that it's probably better than the similar offering up in Cincinnati at Via Vite. Dessert - went home. It was our anniversary last night so I popped open a fun bottle of wine to have at home and we had the brownie, which was closer to a tort it felt like. Delicious flavor and awesome preparation. Overall - best Italian food in the greater Lexington area and it's not even close. I am sure that reservations at this spot are gonna be impossible whenever horse season arrives Spring/Fall cause all the fancy horse owners are 100% gonna be here. I would be remiss in not mentioning a fantastic wine list for Italian and Napa with a great bar overall. Their main location out in Pittsburgh is a Wine Spectator List member and I'm hoping to see that come to this place...we desperately need Italian wine around here. read more

A group of us went to Vallozzi's this Thursday and was impressed with the ambiance and service, but three out of the four of us found the food awful. One meal was sent back (short ribs was sour) and the replacement meal plus two other meals were so salty, that none of us were able to eat them. We told our server and the bar manager, but all that was said is that they would tell the chef. Very disappointed. read more
