Booked a reservation for 7:30 on Saturday. I'm searching for Italian in the KY area, this was one of a few that I came across that looked good. Started with an old-fashioned and an unsweet tea. Drink was good overall. We shared a Caesar salad to start. Half of the lettuce pieces were brown. Lettuce was yellowed more than green. Meh. I ordered the rigatoni with spicy marinara, meatball and sausage. The portion was insanely large - two sausages and two meatball, plus a platter of pasta. This was good - but again too much. Meatballs were good, sausage was good. For dessert I ordered the chocolate mousse which was okay. Located in an old bank building the place was nice with live music - though the guy walking around playing the sax was a little much. read more

While in town for business I enjoyed a team dinner and this gem of a restaurant. The Ambiance was great with Frank Sinatra playing in the background and occasionally a live musician playing saxophone or other light instruments. The staff was friendly and accommodating. It was everything you would expect a nice dining experience. The menu was extensive with lots of modern takes on Italian favorites. There is a good wine list with sufficient number of options for any wine taste and also a specialty cocktail list. We started out with fried calamari and a specialty caprese salad with heirloom tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, and a variety of meats and olives. They were all delicious and fresh. For dinner I had the Fagottini Sinatra which was to die for. The combination of the pasta, cheeses, apple bites, and cream sauce enhanced all the flavors and produced a combination which I would HIGHLY recommend. Note that the prices are $30-$50 a meal but you get what you would expect from a nice restaurant. I will definitely be back on a future visit to Lexington. read more

Omigosh love love pasta and this place knocked it out of the park! A cute place for a date night. A few friends and I went here before a concert which was walking distance from Rupp Arena. Let me start out with this place is amazing. We were able to get a table without a reservation thankfully. This place is a nice beautiful restaurant to enjoy a quiet meal or celebrate with your loved one. The service was flawless and top notch. They started us off with water and fresh bread. We love warm fresh bread. We ordered the Calamari as an appetizer and it did not disappoint. Perfectly cooked. We then ordered the Veal Parmesan and Fagottini Sanatra. The wife loves the moldy cheeses so this was excellent for her. And the Almonds were a nice touch. The Veal was very nice sized meal that came with pasta on the side. It was delicious. If you are looking for an intimate place to celebrate or just have a good meal, give this place a try. read more

Was hoping to meet a friend for a quick lunch at Dudley's last week, but it was closed, so we stopped in Frank & Dino's, conveniently right next door. And what a pleasure! Everything from the fresh bread and butter to start, to the huge tiramisu for dessert was pure perfection. For my entree, I decided to try the Fagottini Sinatra, purse filled pasta filled with mascarpone and Parmesan cheeses, and pear, and tossed in a Gorgonzola sauce with asparagus and toasted almonds. This was a great choice, delicious, subtle flavor contrasts, which was light enough for a nice lunch time meal. I'm already craving that pear and Gorgonzola matchup, so I'll be back soon!! read more

This place is always very crowded. It has a big bar and a lot of space. The atmosphere is very nice and the service is pretty average. The menu is pretty limited and there is not really anything too exciting. I wish that they still had the Veal Picatta. The Pepperoncini Ripieni is the most interesting and delicious item on the menu in my opinion. read more

Great pastas, strong selection of chicken, veal, and such...and if you enjoy pasta fagiole (and you should), theirs is among the best--perfectly seasoned, balanced ingredients, comfort in a bowl. Yes, it's a bit pricy, I've seen other comments on here, but so are many places. The atmosphere and elite service part of what you pay for (especially when they have live music going). This place is gorgeous. With a name like Frank & Dino's, it better be. I came in for lunch on a weekday and asked if I could have lunch from the bar, and the very kind. bartender, Eric, said it would be great to have lunch at the bar. He got me a beverage and a lunch menu and made me feel very welcome without feeling awkward being dining solo. I don't have an issue dining solo when I'm on business travel but it is not always easily received in Kentucky still for some reason. The lunch menu had wonderful offerings of antipasto, meatballs and more appetizers. I kept eyeing the Caesar salad, and many pasta dishes on the menu. I settled on the rigatoni Bolognese. It came out in a very reasonable amount of time, hot and fresh, as you can see in the picture. It was hearty but not heavy. Service from Eric was impeccable! He was attentive and friendly, but not invasive, just the right touch. Lunch was not expensive either, it was ~$20 for the rigatoni bolognese and a soda, so don't shy away from this beautiful place at lunch when you can have a killer meal for a reasonable price. read more

OMG!!!! My kids took me to this restaurant for an early Mother's Day dinner. This was my first time going and I was pleasantly surprised. I love their attention to detail. I enjoyed the live music where the musician played several instruments and sang. Definitely a one man band. I ordered the lobster ravioli. It wasn't as hot as I would like, but it was still good. The kids both had penne pasta with vodka sauce. My son ordered the gluten free penna but did not have enough sauce. He ordered an additional Alfredo and said it made it better. I ordered the lobster ravioli and must say I was impressed by the size of the plate and the overall flavor. I've gone here multiple times. First time was a novelty a few years ago and was fun as a new restaurant. But quickly find out that they have Italian American cuisine that I wouldn't actually classify as fine dining. Ever since then, the quality of the dishes have declined. Tonight, a "special carbonara" that would have a real Italian wondering who's actually in the kitchen back there (fyi it was not a real carbonara). Not giving one star since the service is still good, not their fault. But if you are looking for good Italian, this is not the place you want to go to. read more

Came here with a medium size group tonight for dinner. John was our server and is very good. Thanks John! I've been in Kentucky for a week now, and had not had a mint julep, so I ordered one. We all had cocktails and a bottle of wine. The mint julep was great. I did not have a chance to take pics of everyone's food, but we ordered chicken parmigiana, clams & pasta, chicken Marsala, a veal dish for me, and a pasta dish named after Frank Sinatra. Several people in our party ordered the Sinatra pasta dish and raved about it. Two orders of brownie dessert, a glass of port and two limoncellos rounded out our dinner. Went to Frank & Dino's with friends to celebrate New Years. I sarted with a Gambino Prosecco. The small bottle gives you two glasses. I chose the Pollo Piccata --- two chicken breasts with a nice lemon and caper sauce. Instead of a side of pasta, I had the mashed potatoes, a nice creamy portion. Your experience starts at the door with the convenience of valet parking. Big plus for downtown dining. Professional, courteous staff, and a nice atmosphere round out the pleasant ambiance. I found the dining arrangements a bit crowded but not enough to overly influence the dining experience. To say the wait staff was attentive, would be an understatement, as it was borderline intrusive at times. Our waiter appeared table side more than once to clean even the crumbs from the table following bread service. It was nice I suppose but it made me feel a bit as if I were a child who had somehow been naughty and allowed crumbs on the table. Still the food was delicious, and the portions were plentiful. The noise level (which is always important to me when I dine with family or friends)... was tolerable but a bit loud. Still, the taste and quality of the food and the joy created by a sharing a quality dining experience with friends is enough for me to rate this as one of my favorite dining experiences since moving to Lexington eight years ago. We stopped in for our 40th wedding anniversary. A little trip to explore Lexington and relax. We had an easy walk from the Sire Hotel (highly recommend). Service was very good. Our waiter, John, was quite a character. Staff did an excellent job. My husband ordered the rigatoni and meatballs. It was very tasty and an enormous portion. I had Chicken Piccata with linguine. The chicken was perfectly prepared. The piccata sauce was excellent. I could have mopped the entire plate with bread to get all the sauce. Music from Frank and Dino was playing. Beautiful restaurant. I'm not quite sure how the establishment has such a high rating. The food is designed to be pretty but after that, I'm not sure I'd describe it as edible. The drinks were watered down. Service was dependent on who came to the table. Our primary server was great, but other staff less so. The food... no excuse. The charcuterie platter was expensive for a few pieces of cheap cheese and sparing slices of meat. The Giant Meatball had to have been 50% breading and the Veal Pam while huge came out soggy, not crispy, tasting of cheap breading and excessive amount of cheese. The manager came by each table to ask how things were and when my dining companion said not good, he just said great like he was on auto drive and went to the next table. Expensive and unacceptable. Skip at all costs. Plenty of much much nicer and less expensive places in the downtown. read more

Graduation weekend at UK...our reservations were at 8:45 pm and we were seating promptly. I was looking forward to the food because of all the avenues reviews- especially the bread. It did not disappoint. There was no olive oil, just pats of cold butter. It was still delicious! The meatball was huge, as promised. I ordered the Pollo Parmigiana, also known as Chicken Parmesan with the side of linguini. My son ordered the Fagotinni Sinatra. I thought the food was good, but not delicious. The portion was huge! This place is mediocre. The food is one step above Olive Garden and it's priced 3 times that. One of the most disappointing experiences. The layout feels weird and management comes off as arrogant and in unfriendly. Service was fine. The hype and price isn't worth it. If you have a pet you wanna spoil, you should try it and then give your pet the disappointlong left overs. read more
