My 21-month old son needed his hair cut. Back story: -His first haircut was at a high-end salon and the back was left a bit shaggy. -His second haircut was at a children's hair salon on Yale St. I showed them a photo but the stylist gave him something completely different--a "bowl" cut like Moe from the Three Stooges. It was now time for his third haircut. For days I went through sixty of Yelp's haircutting places. Went through every photo and narrowed it down to two places. * Today was the day. My son is going to a barber shop, Valor Barber Shop. Three barbers greeted us. I informed Brock, who would be cutting my son's hair, that he would cry and move his hands and head. He did cry, but all three barbers entertained my son and even gave him a popsicle. THE HAIRCUT: I showed a photo of what I wanted and was given exactly that. My son looks so rock-star. :) I took a before photo at the barber shop. Then took after photos while at the grocery store right after showing the left side profile, right side profile, and front facing. Verdict: If you have a kid, bring them here. I wasn't quite sure what to expect bringing my 6 year old to a proper barber shop, but we needed a back-to-school haircut and most of the "kids places" were booked up. We waited less than 10 minutes as a Saturday walk-in! The staff at Valor did not disappoint! They were friendly and courteous; Broc gave my son a fist bump on his way in and Karina did a fantastic job navigating a fidgety little boy! My son usually throws a fit when they pull out the electric clippers but she helped him stay calm and navigate through the haircut successfully! I also loved that she asked my son what kind of hairstyle he liked before even acknowledging me. Needless to say, we will definitely return in a few months for his next haircut! read more

This place is a hidden little treasure in Oak Forest. The owner is a really funny guy who makes everyone feel welcome. They do a lot for veterans and 1st responders and most of all, it is a great haircut. Quick and easy if you want but it also has that hang out feel like an old school barbershop. They also do straight razor, hot towel shaves. They offer you scotch. I feel like I am about to say they have a unicorn in the back but I really can't say enough good things about this place. I've been on the hunt for an exception barber/stylist that can do a proper fade as well and treat long hair and work a beard. You would think that these types of artists are plentiful but in reality they are extremely difficult to come across. Fortunately Valor Barbershop has two exceptionally skilled barbers who can do it all. I was recommended to Maddie and she didnt let me down.
