From the moment you walk in, you just know you're in a good barber's hands--and that you're going to walk out looking sharp. I've been seeing Danny for a while now, and what I appreciate most is the trust I've built with him. I'm not just coming in for the same old cut every time--I feel comfortable enough to let him do whatever he thinks will work best, whether it's a seasonal update or just something new. He's got a great eye, and I always leave looking clean and confident. The shop itself is in a super convenient location right off Washington Ave, with a solid-sized parking lot (rare in this area!). It's also right next to Catalina Coffee and Dark Horse Tavern, so whether you need a quick pick-me-up or a drink before or after your cut, it's all right there. Cutthroat even offers a complimentary drink before your service, which is a nice touch--even though I'm usually rolling in last-minute and don't take full advantage. All in all, it's a laid-back but professional spot with real barbers who know what they're doing. Highly recommend.

As others have mentioned, they are pretty rigid when it comes to tardiness so....don't be late. Just as an adult and as a general rule, don't be late. Leave early and allow for unexpected delays to arise, this is Houston after all. If you're 15 minutes early, you're on time. If you're on time, you're late. They offer free beverages to enjoy while you wait for your appointment to begin, these vary from local beer to whiskey. If you're interested, you may need to request it, not all of the receptionists proactively offer but it is included. Not a bad offering and is appreciated as these aren't the cheapest services you'll find, but they're in-line with other moderately upscale men's barbershops ($40 beard trim etc) and my experiences have always proven worth it.

Yes, I was given a $10 haircut by Danny the last time I was there. But Victor, the owner and the barber I booked the appointment with, texted me to ask for the rest of the money! So you can't reach out to let me know you can't make the appointment that I booked on your website, but you can reach out to ask for extra money? You weren't even there. I still paid $20, hopefully that money went to Danny. I want to reiterate, the first time I booked for a $50 service, and waited 30 minutes to an hour for a no show barber(Victor, the owner) on a Saturday morning. The second time was years later, he was 30 minutes late(yes I paid full price during regular business hours and it was expensive). The third time Victor never showed, called, or texted. Danny gave me a discount, but then Victor reached out to ask for the money back. Terrible business plan. Afterhours would be better off always charging $10 for a cut, or better yet, paying people to come into this sorry excuse of a barbershop. I would like to add that Danny was great and did his best to provide the level of service that Afterhours advertises. The shop is just not on that level. Danny should cut in a different shop where he can work with better coworkers and thrive in a professional environment. If Danny was the owner, this place would be much better off. Victor, hopefully you learn your lesson about how to treat customers. Instead of you providing terrible service and getting mad when customers leave accurate reviews, you should man up and take the feedback constructively and use it to make your business better. The way you are operating right now this place is doomed to fail.

First, this is not a restaurant! But I'm glad it isn't! As I am a HUGE foodie and I just moved to Houston a year ago, I always have my eyes wondering around as I drive to spot out restaurants and coffee shops I want to try. I've gone to Siphon right next door, but for some reason I thought The Argyle League was a place that served food. Not until I googled it, I found out it was a barber shop! I had a couple of bad experiences with the last place I went to have my haircut (yeah I know, I should have stopped going there after the first one!) and I wanted to take my business elsewhere. Since I found out that The Argyle League was a barber shop, I did some more research, read some reviews on yelp, and finally made an appointment with Dominic. When I walked in, I thought to myself, "Man this place is classy!" From that first step through their door, I knew that this place would definitely take care of me. Once my hair was rinsed, Dominic took the time to understand my "needs & wants" and gave me suggestions based on my hair texture and length. I am always nervous going to a new place for a haircut but after a mini "consultation" with Dominic, I felt more at ease. He didn't rush at all and would occasionally check in with me if my hair was looking the way I wanted. In the end, the final cut was PERFECT. Oh, and your haircut includes a hot lather and straight razor neck shave at the end! I like the idea that the haircut also lets you come back in a few weeks to get a complementary trim to clean it up. Like what other yelpers said, I noticed the rest of the barbers working on other clients and everyone in the end looked pretty sharp! I guess I found my new go-to place! read more

I really wanted to like this place, but the haircut I walked out with has to be one of the worst haircuts I've ever gotten. It was my first time here, and I was assigned to Dominic. I clearly told him when I sat down in the chair that I wanted to trim the top, and told him about a quarter of an inch off the top. At the end of my haircut I look at my hair and he had cut it so short that I couldn't even make my hair. On top of that, the left side of my hair is clearly longer than the right side and the top isn't even even! Super choppy. He did a good job with the fade and beard, but completely butchered the top of my head. What makes me upset is that I clearly told him a quarter of an inch trim and he goes on to take almost an inch off. The worst part about all this is that I have a wedding to attend this weekend and I'm going to have to go with a messed up haircut. For $70, I expected a lot better than this. I think my asian lady could've done a better job for $8. Yeah the fade wouldn't have been as nice, but at least I'll be able to style my hair and not be walking around with choppy and uneven hair. Maybe I just got unlucky with the barber? But I'm not willing to dish out another $70 to give them another shot. read more

The Argyle League does a great job following up with appointment reminders, and is gracious enough to help schedule around my busy schedule. I have been coming to the shop for a couple years now, and have been getting my haircut by Travis. Travis is the best barber I have ever been to, and I constantly receive compliments on my haircut. Many of my friends even switched barbers, and started going to The Argyle League. During my time with Travis, I have switched my hairstyle 3 times, and he finessed each one to fit me. I came here for the first time last month and was pleasantly surprised at the entire experience. I walked in, was greeted very kindly and then received a beverage of my choice. I waited for less than 5 minutes and was already in a chair. Zane cut my hair and it was by far the best haircut I have ever received. He took his time and made sure I had a good experience. What I think is really cool is the complimentary trim-up you get with each haircut. It's like two haircuts for the price of one! The atmosphere is very lively and fun. Argyle League is a top notch barbershop. I have been a customer for over a decade and have always been happy with my cuts. They play excellent tunes, serve complimentary Saint Arnold beer and have a welcoming staff. What else do you need? After having his hair butchered multiple times at other spots around town, I also started taking my son to Argyle League. They have always been welcoming, kind and gracious with him. Took a flyer and tried this barber shop, and Dominic in particular. Very happy with the haircut Dominic gave me, his execution is precise/sharp. Also am happy with how easy it was to communicate what I was looking for. Cost was a little less than I've paid for the last 9 years (this cut was $40), and I'm much (much, much) happier with the result. The rest of the shop is great, the staff is polite/friendly, the environment is clean/attractive. I've been going to this barber shop for the last three years or so, always with Andy hatch. Having moved from a city where we're spoiled with two of the best barbershops in Europe (Rotterdam, the Netherlands), I had a hard time finding a barber of the same standard. In my three years I have only had great results. The staff is super friendly, including the guys behind the counter, who will recognize you after a few visits. Almost 20 minutes passed as I watched the guy working the desk socialize with a Woman who wasn't even a customer. I had been a customer for ten years, but not now. Richard, and to some extent his son, are the main players here. They toil day in and day out in a physically unattractive, dirty space. Someone wrote the shop is in a remodeled old house, but not so much. The bathroom is circa Galveston flood, but that's not a reason to stay away. Haircuts are inconsistent if you require anything that vaires from the clipper guard system, anything that requires real concentration on the part of the barber. The skill level of the barbers is mid at best and their concentration can be high or fleeting. When it's fleeting, you'll get chop job. I don't expect barbers to be skilled conversationalists, but when they've seen the same customer once a month for 10 years, they cannot be excused for asking the same dumb ass questions time after time. Paying extra for a quality haircut should consistently snag the customer one each and every time.
