I actually didn't end up using Val to get my wedding dress tailored because she was very honest and told me that what I wanted done was not a good idea. She was very responsive to my texts, on time, and clearly not trying to rip anyone off, which I appreciate. I've been meaning to post this for awhile, because Anna is amazing. She did the alterations on my wedding gown a few months back and my dress was perfect. There were so many intricate elements to the dress that I was afraid alterations would a) be crazy expensive b) take forever or c) look awful. Not so with Anna! She did an amazing job in a reasonable time frame for a great price! She is honest and up front as well, when my husband brought his suit in to be altered, and it didn't really need alterations, she told him so. She didn't try to charge him or make changes when it wasn't necessary. Excellent customer service, reasonable prices, I highly recommend. read more

Anna is the absolute best tailor in STL!!! I've been going to her for about a year now and she is always professional, gives great recommendations, and her prices are more than fair. I took my son's coat here to have the zipper fixed and when I got it back I was horrified at what they had done. I will be taking the coat to another place to see if it can be salvaged before putting it in the back of the closet as the spare. I had to buy my son a whole new coat as a replacement. Details: My son stepped on a few teeth of the coat zipper and they were missing so his coat wouldn't stay zipped, so new zipper. On the left zipper there WAS a piece of fabric which went under the zipper and then over the top of it at the chin as a zipper stop. This was removed and somewhat sewed under the new right zipper with the zipper stop remaining inside of the coat, so not stopping the zipper! All seams were left open, loose threads everywhere, holes in sewing lines everywhere, and to top it off, the coat was ironed. It's a DO NOT IRON fabric that burns. So it burned. This business charged me $35 for this disaster. read more

Anna has the magic touch when it comes to making clothing look amazing. Everything she's done for me (suit, sweaters, pants, shirts) just feels a step above when I get it back. It fits like it's made for me (which I guess now it is:) If you're looking for the best bang for you buck in personal appearance, I'd say skip the personal trainer and go to the tailor. I had a suit altered at Val's. They took something I bought off the rack at Target (yes, I bought a suit a Target) and made it look like waaaay more expensive than it really was. It fit like a glove after that. So I've got no complaints about their work. Plus the price was reasonable and the woman who helped me was very pleasant. I'll go back. read more

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! First of all I would just like to say that I'm very picky about my clothing, and getting it altered always makes me worry that it wont be the same or that it won't live up to the vision I had for it. This worry has been put to bed all together since I started going to Val's! Anna is the owner and she does an outstanding job. I've taken multiple bridesmaid dresses to her (all of which I hated at the time of purchase) and have loved the outcome of every one of them. I've even worn a couple of them outside of the weddings. She has exceeded my expectations for every piece I've taken to her. Now even my boyfriend, who never really cared about the quality of his alterations, takes his things here too. Between the two of us we've had bridesmaids dresses, cocktail dresses, suits, pant hems, and dress shirts altered by Anna and have been very pleased with all of her work. And as a bonus, her mom does alterations as well! When Anna was going to be out of town and I needed a dress altered at the last minute she made arrangements with her mom to do it. I just stopped by for a quick fitting, and she took care of the rest. I simply had to drive to her mom's location and pick it up! I've had two suits hemmed here, and am awaiting work on the third. For convenience, I'm very happy as it's located near where I live. For service, I'm very happy as they were able to get me in and turn around the work in less than a week. I called both times before stopping in, and had a fine experience each time; even asking that I wear the shoes I'll be wearing when I have the suits on to get a better idea. That may seem like a no brainer to some people, but I don't get this sort of work done, so a friendly reminder was helpful. Both times I was satisfied by the work, and I was basically in and out in less than 5 minutes. read more

I went to Val's Tailor Shop for alterations on my bridesmaid dress. Before alterations, the dress fit so poorly. It didn't fit in the right places and overall looked baggy. Anna was very welcoming when we walked in, immediately getting to work. She knew exactly what needed to be done for the dress to flatter my body. She made very helpful suggestions both during and after the alterations. When I returned to try on the dress after the alterations, the fit was fabulous! Anna does A+ work. There were a couple of items that I bought from stores that provide tailoring, specifically a jacket. I wanted some changes made to the jacket and they said they couldn't do it. I brought it to Anna and she got it done no problem! Also, my suits, sport coats, and slacks always look fantastic. The price is great and the turn around time is super easy. Not only the WORST alterations I've ever received but the worst customer service, by the owner at that! I had a wedding coming up and was asked to purchase a J Crew bridesmaids dress. Unfortunately it was too small but it was the largest size available, therefore needing alterations. The seamstress ended up inserting a v-shaped panel at the bottom of the bodice completely changing the look of the dress. Not only that but the v puckered drastically and didn't even lay flat as a dress normally would. When I expressed my frustration with the looks of the v-shaped panel and the fit, I was immediately told it was the only way to make it work. (She hadn't even seen it on). After speaking with several other seamstresses to see what options were available, it was clear there were in fact many other ways to have enlarged the dress and now correct this problem. I walked out mortified and with a $400 dress that I wasn't even sure could be rectified. I will NEVER again use their services. Beware. I only gave one star on this because it wouldn't let me put nothing. read more
