I was looking for a good tailor to take in the shoulders on a dress I have. I looked up some local tailors and came across Leonard's page. I found that he used to have a storefront in Brentwood but since COVID has moved to working out of the basement of his house near Creve coeur. So if you need give him a call and he'll set up a time for you to go visit! Leonard was incredible to work with and such a fun person to talk to, he obviously takes a lot of pride in his work and it was very apparent that he appreciates the women's form by the output of his work. I needed a suit tailored on short notice for my wedding. After doing a lot of research online, I found multiple recommendations for Leonard as being the best tailor in the St. Louis area. I decided to take the plunge and drove two hours to see him at his new location in Creve Coeur. Leonard was gracious, polite and obviously very passionate about his work. Unfortunately, it only took him two seconds to notice that the suit I had bought online was several sizes too small and would never be able to fit me no matter how much tailoring he did. Since I had already driven two hours and had only about a week until my wedding, I was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Luckily for me, Leonard was able to work out a solution with me. He gave me a recommendation for sizing, which stores to look at and even the name of someone he trusted at one of the stores to help me find a suit. Within a couple hours, I had a suit that fit me great and was back at Leonard's location for tailoring. He was even kind enough to keep his doors open after hours for me since I had driven so far to see him. As for the tailoring, it's impeccable. Over the years I've had a fair number of suits, but I've never had a suit look as good or on me or fit me as well as the one that Leonard fixed up for me. Leonard does a fantastic job tailoring. He's now taken in the waist of 5 pairs of pants for me and they fit me beautifully. It isn't super fast (usually 1-2 week turn around, could probably do faster if needed but I haven't asked) and isn't cheap, but you get what you pay for and he's worth it. He used to have a location by the Brentwood mall. He's now working out of his home in Creve Couer by appointment. Cash/check only. I should have tried myself. I took three shirts in to be tailored. They were all three the same shirt just different colors. I also wore in a shirt with the fit I was wanting out of the others. I was told it would be no problem. 50 per shirt to shorten the bottom, bring in the sides, and tighten up the sleeves. Again these were all the exact same shirts. None of them turned out close to the same. The bottoms do not match up on two, one is significantly smaller, and the other now has the last button a half inch from the bottom of the shirt. I'm not really sure what I paid for. I walked in with three shirts that were a little too big, paid 50 dollars per shirt, and now I'm pith e money and the shirts. read more

I can't say enough good things about Leonard's Tailoring! Their hours are convenient, the consultation/pinning/fitting was concise and informational, and the work done was top-notch. I'm a nurse at an organization with strict uniform guidelines. The scrubs have to all be bought from the same brand ( which sucks). The sizes run ridiculously huge. An XXS fits like an XL. I brought 4 scrub tops in to be tailored. I wasn't sure if there was anything anyone could do to the tops without sacrificing the many necessary pockets, etc. I was greeted by a woman (I wish I could remember her name), who had me put on the tops and spent time to make sure I liked the way the tops would look when they were finished. She even asked me whether I wanted the little patch with the brand name replaced on the sleeve, and if I wanted the ties/vents replaced. She was METICULOUS! I gave them a three-week window in which to work, and she quoted me an extremely fair price for the work I needed done. She even itemized everything out so I knew exactly what I was being charged for. Fast-forward a couple weeks, and it turned out I needed my tops a lot sooner than I thought I would. I called Leonard, expecting to be upcharged a ton for asking them to rush my order. Not the case! He told me I could pick them up a full week earlier than I had originally planned, and didn't ask for an extra cent. When I went to get them, I was stuck in traffic and the store was about to close, and I called Leonard, who said he would wait for me. Again, service was amazing. The tops fit great, I paid a fair price, and if I ever need any further alterations, I wouldn't dream of going anywhere but Leonard's Tailoring! PS- Be sure to bring cash or a check (what's that??), because they don't have a credit card machine! read more

Leonard is a meticulous tailor who will truly listen to what you need done to a garment. I cannot say enough good things about him. I had him alter dozens of garments for me over the last two years, culminating in my wedding gown. He hemmed it, added a bustle, and pressed the dress out for me. I think anyone who would who can alter a wedding gown can just about do it all. My husband has had a number of suits tailored by Leonard, and they are always exactly as he needs. Leonard is also great about giving you an idea on upfront alteration costs. I bought a suit and brought it to him with tags on, to see what kind of alterations would be made, etc. He ended up recommending I get the size larger because the alterations would be easier and less expensive. Tucked away in an unassuming storefront is a wonderful tailoring service! I was recommended to Leonard's Tailoring by another tailor who doesn't work on women's attire. He did wonders with two formal dresses, both with intricate lace designs. One started out being too baggy around the waist. When I went to pick it up it was absolutely perfect. I had a challenging task of sewing a plastic collar on a polyester religious habit; when I brought it to Leonard, he too looked at it for a couple of moments to see if such a task was possible. Not only did Leonard successfully complete the task, he did so with outstanding customer service. He informed me that the plastic collar will break off from the habit depending on repeated use - so he also showed me how I can perform this task by myself. I greatly appreciate Leonard charging me inexpensively for his service as well as his willingness to teach me. He is a meticulous, knowledgeable, very experienced and problem-solving tailor, who treats customers with respect. It is important to note that while he was helping me, other customers entered his tailor shop and he addressed all their needs simultaneously, professionally, and again courteously. I needed a satin bridesmaid dress altered, which is not an easy fabric to work with. I decided to take a chance and see what I could do. I went to a few other tailors, none of which felt comfortable with my requests. Finally, I brought it to Leonard. He was able to make all of my modifications and you can't even tell that it was let out or that the straps were modified! He was so kind and funny and he clearly knows what he is doing. He made an experience I had been dreading into something I looked forward to! Not only did the dress look great, but it was ready on the day that he said it would be, and his price was very reasonable. DO NOT TAKE YOUR SUITS HERE!!! I am a very unbiased person and this review does not reflect on their customer service. In fact their service was great. They were cordial and delivered the product on time. The problem is the quality of their work. I took a $500 suit here and it was butchered. His measuring style is unconventional, but I didn't knock it until I saw it obviously didn't work. The sleeves on the jacket were drastically uneven. The hem on the pants were drastically uneven. I'm not a tailor, but I think it's "tailoring 101" to make sure everything is the same length even if its the wrong length. As I mentioned they are very cordial and polite and did not hesitate to correct the problem. However, after allowing them to adjust their mistakes everything was still not corrected. I don't write reviews often unless I truly believe they are warranted. Here, I think this is one of the cases. This review is for men's suits. He has many accolades regarding women's clothing, but for men's suits. I would recommend to STAY AWAY!!! read more

I took my wedding dress to Leonard and his team to do some basic alterations and add some custom lace straps. I can't say enough about how wonderful of a job they did and what a pleasure it was working with Leonard throughout the whole process! They worked hard to make sure it fit perfectly, taking time to do several fittings and the time to really figure out what I wanted. They were so kind and welcoming! My dress fit perfectly and the straps they added were GORGEOUS. The placement and thickness of the straps really slimmed my broad shoulders and broke the neckline up beautifully. I have been meaning to write this review for awhile- this place is great! I brought in new dress pants to have them hemmed and I had told him about the shoddy work I had received from brentwood tailoring up the street; when I can in to pick up my pants he had double hemmed the bottoms to ensure the hem wouldn't unravel (as it did with brentwood tailoring after about 3 wears)- it was so nice of him and I really appreciated his extra effort to ensure I would be happy. The place is quite small but there's parking around the back of the building. Highly recommend this tailor. read more

Leonard and his team work magic! My first experience was after I inherited one my grandfather's gorgeous 3-piece suits. My grandfather was much taller and bulkier than me so I went in expecting a "we can't do much with this." Instead, for $150, this $2,000 masterpiece fit me like it was custom-made just for me without a previous owner. My experience was absolutely lovely. I found my wedding dress at a vintage second hand shop--it was a size 10 or 12 and I'm a size 2/4. I took it to another tailor who said she wouldn't touch it--"it would be easier to make you a dress from scratch" was basically the message. I took it to Leonard and he wasn't scared a bit. He offered many options along the way and was always attentive to what I wanted (and super patient when I didn't exactly know what I wanted). In the end I got the dress I envisioned.
