I've been here quite a few times & it's a decent store. The employees are always so nice , very helpful & not lazy af like at other stores. My mom told him what we were there for & instead of him directing us on where to go, he went & grabbed what he thought we meant & brought it to us. After a VERY long day of doing returns at Lowe's and Walmart, my husband and I were wiped out. Because of the new Covid spread, we wanted to get in and out of these stores as quickly and efficiently as possible. We mostly stood around in line, however, with people who didn't know how to socially distance. After these nightmarish stores that took an hour and a half from us, we were beat. We really wanted to skip Valu and go home. Howver, we had stuff to return there too and it didn't make sense to stop the errands prematurely. We were in and out in 5 minutes. I can't even tell you how relieved I was at the quickness and accuracy of the manager who took care of us. When we first walked in and were told only a manager could do a return, I was immediately apprehensive. But despite my worry that finding a manager would take a while, the manager only had to turn around. He was RIGHT by the cash register. Imagine that! The return took a minute and then my hubby and I were on our way. This time of year, that's unheard of. I was so grateful to Valu for being a local staple and an all around great store that I had to give them a 5 star review! read more

Valu has everything you need, except an "e", hence the mis-spelling. They say Valu has everything you need and in this case it was true. We needed carbon monoxide filters, smoke alarms, and a girl about yay high with pink hair and a penchant for drinking a gallon of Thai Iced Tea while singing the Polish National Anthem. We were able to find everything except the filters and alarms. Seriously though, good prices, good selection, very satisfied. Valu had everything we needed. It's a bit of a pain to get here when traffic is heavy, but then it's a bit of a pain to get anywhere when you're heavy, so what's the difference. I seriously need to lose some weight. I wonder if Valu has EVERYthing I need. As in, a Gym inside that I can use for free. read more

The square footage of the store is massive, but the store contains surprisingly few useful items. In comparison to other hardware stores (even including Home Depot), space is not conserved well. Maybe 25% of the store is dedicated to floor models of patio furniture and assembly-required TV consoles and bookshelves. Items are incredibly difficult to find as aisles are not labeled!!! I don't know how a store can get away with doing that in this day and age. I literally went around the store twice looking for blinds before experiencing the frustration of having to track down an employee, itself a frustratingly difficult task because only three or four employees are on the floor at any one time. When all is said and done, the pricing here is below competition for many items, but with the shopping experience so poor, it's hard to justify the visit. read more

The parking lot here is currently under construction therefore it is difficult to turn into this lot from Kenmore Avenue. Your best bet is to turn into the CVS parking lot and go through into Valu Home Centers. The second I walked in, I was immediately greeted by one of the workers and he asked me what I needed. I told him I needed to cover a few picture nail holes in my apartment and needed some spackle. I asked for the smallest container and he brought me over to the spackle section, not before asking me how big the holes were, to make sure he was recommending the correct product. The products in this store are reasonable priced and they have tons of products. The only thing I really disliked about the store is that it wreaked of fertilizer. Yuck. They need some candles or febreeze or something! read more

I was on my way to Home Depot and traffic was moving slowly so I decided to give it a try. When i go to hardware stores, I know EXACTLY what I need. I like to get in get my things and get on my way. At Lowes and Home Depot someone usually asks what I need, I tell them, and they have no idea what or where it is, and I go find it myself. This is what I expected when the Jolly older gentleman asked what he could help me find today. Me: "1/4-20 x 3/4 Socket Head Cap Screw" Jolly Older Gentleman: "Alloy or Stainless?" Me: (With discernable surprise) "Alloy!" I had 6 or so items on my list and silicoln caulk was the only one that I expected the average Lowes employee the be able to help me with but this guy had me out of the store in 5 minutes with everything I had come for. Almost as soon as you walk in the door you are greeted by an employee who is NOT looking up from their cell phone. After breathing a sigh of relief that you are indeed not invisible, you can get right down to business and find what you are looking for. As a former manager of retail businesses, I know how important it is to make the customer feel welcome, steer them to the appropriate aisle and products, and offer recommendations wherever appropriate ( a little grey hair around the temples doesn't hurt).
