I know. What's a girl like me doing in a place like this you ask. Since I'm not the handiest girl around you don't often find me in a hardware store. However I have found myself here twice in the past week. The first time was to try to find pruners that can be used standing. While we were not able to find those, sadly, the owner (I think) and his employee went out of their way to see how they could help me. Then, a few days later, I find myself on a mission to find a certain kind of plant food. I had already checked at Home Depot while buying bird seed, but they had not had it come in for over a year and were not sure when it was coming in. I called Walmart, Loews, and two garden stores in the area too. They did not have any in stock either. On a whim I stopped in here again, asked the employee if they had it, he took me to the aisle and there it was!! I scooped up the two boxes they had. This store looks small from the outside, but it is quite large once inside. It is next to and connected to the Schuele Paint Store, more or else on the corner of Summer and Main. Rather than travel to the suburbs, I will go here first now, they are helpful, pleasant, local and easy to get to. read more

I would rate them higher if I could! Yesterday I decided to stop in for some home improvement supplies... I made the mistake with going to Home Depot my last few trips (forgetting this was by my neighborhood) and what a WORLD of difference in experience!! There was not a line to get in. There were more than enough staff, all of whom helped me with mixing paint, answering questions, and showing me where things are. While I will say, the prices are a bit higher than Home Depot or other big box stores - I'm okay with that knowing I am helping a smaller local business and employees and getting great customer service in the process! It is smaller so there is limited options for things - such as only one paint brand. The aisles are also tight. But they certainly maximize their product and space the best they can. read more

At first, I was really impressed with this store. When they first opened it was a great experience every time with helpful staff, they were excellent. There was one tall older guy who talked me into Ace rewards and the Clark and Kensington paint. I loved the paint too. Subsequent visits were also good with most staff. HOWEVER, a few years have gone by and new (or unfamiliar) people. They act like they are bothered to help. They are painfully slow. Clueless about what they have or what something is. For example I called there with the website open and asked if they had the item. I was immediately told we don't sell pressure washers. I said you didn't hear me or you didn't listen before I could tell you what I wanted. I said it's a nozzle like a pressure washer but for the hose. I was hardly able to understand him as well because he spoke like an uneducated teenage kid. That's frustrating. So I called a second time and asked another rude person but gave him the stock number from the website. They had one in stock it so I was there in 10 minutes to buy it and watched employees like they were Walkers from TWD. So today I called with a question and this time a disinterested female answered the phone and responded unconvincingly so I politely asked if there was a store manager and she placed me on hold for over 4 minutes. I hung up and called back for the manager. Only slightly better but at least I got the answer. I won't be returning to this place. I don't recommend you do either. read more

Ace itself is rarely the most economical option when I need something for home improvement. Also I'm a cheapskate. With that said, I am a happy patron of this particular store and always go there first if I need something. When you get there it doesn't seem like they are definitely going to have what you specifically need because it's in such a small space (compared to say Home Depot is Lowe's) but they do such an excellent job of curating their stock that I have never not found what I was looking for. I don't even know how they do it but it's really impressive. When I'm shopping for something I am really adverse to employees approaching me (I fall for an up sell really easily so it just makes me anxious). The staff here though are always friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. It has the feel of a neighborhood mom and pop type of store and I attribute most of that to the staff. It's clear that everyone there actually wants to be there and it makes for a great experience. The only negative is that the Ace Rewards is one of the most useless rewards program I have ever encountered but that's not up for to the store so I'm not holding it against them. Getting a five dollar coupon for a specific item I'm never going to need if I spend a hundred bucks is kind of silly though. The worst customer service I have ever received has consistently been at Home Depot and Lowe's. Between waiting for a couple employees to finish their conversations when I need help to asking where something is and getting an "I dunno" it makes me really happy to have an option where I am positive that will never happen. If you need something for home improvement go there first. Even if it's not the closest, it's worth it for the great shopping experience. read more

Recently bought my husband a Weber gas grill for Father's Day, but unfortunately, I purchased a propane instead of natural gas one. I didn't realize it until my husband opened it. I ordered online, and had it sent to Gui's Ace Hardware where it was assembled and delivered to me. When I discovered the problem, I called and asked to exchange it for a natural gas grill (same price). At first they said I needed to bring it back, and they would try to get another one. After a lot of run around, they said they wouldn't take it back because it was assembled. They were rather rude, and hung up on me. I then contacted Ace.com, who arranged with Schuele Hardware to return the grill. Amy, the manager, was a delight to work with and very accommodating. I obviously will not be doing business with or recommending anyone to go to Gui's and would like to thank Amy very much for her help! read more

No store maximizes volume in Buffalo better than this hardware store. The physical area of this store is small, but shelves are high, and aisles are narrow. Every possible surface is covered with something that you just might need for X, for Y, for Z (and always affording at least one option in terms of brand, price scale, or material). You know how people like me speak rapturously about bookstores (i.e. Rust Belt Books, or the Main Street Talking Leaves location, or the Strand on Broadway in Manhattan, or...) with rows and rows of contents? I can't help but imagine DIY freaks and gearheads doing the same over this store. Navigating such a store itself seems like it would be rather difficult, but the wonderful thing about the business is that they employ personnel that have drunk deeply the Ace-Scheule Kool-Aid. These people number easily among the most helpful and most knowledgeable customer service people working in retail I have met anywhere in Buffalo and were a great help in providing me, a DIY tyro, with the equipment and methodology necessary to properly restore sheen to a long-neglected floor, seal holes in drywall, and shore up some caulking. For anything short of lumber, lawnmowers, doors, or large pipes, I'd recommend making this place the preferred destination for hardware. read more

I can't say enough about how happy I am that this store opened in the neighborhood. It is far more convenient to go here than to travel to a big box store. It is a small store, but they have used their space extremely efficiently and have a good selection. The staff also know where everything is so they can help you find things fast. I have been here quite a few times in the past few months, but yesterday I showed up about a half hour after they closed on a Sunday. As I pulled into the lot, a staff member asked if I needed anything, from his car about to leave. I did and he got out of his car to open the store so I could buy my item. What an awesome hardware store to have within walking distance! We needed some keys cut, so we walked over. The inside is cramped, but the selection is awesome for a store that size. I walked right up to the key cutting counter, and had my 3 key copies done within 2 minutes. At a mere $2.75 each, it was a great deal! While there, I also picked up some screws and some grounding adapters. I was mesmerized by the sheer selection. Prices are great, and they carry a great deal of items. Everybody was friendly. Stopped in quickly while working on my friends bike. I've never been in here before and was pleasantly surprised. We needed bolts and washers. The store is a pretty decent size and was fairly busy. The staff members were super friendly. One gentleman came over as i was fumbling with a handful of bolts and advised that there are little bags that customers can use to put their pieces in. The bags were awesome, you can list the item number, quantity and price of what you put in there to make checking out a breeze. He also made sure we found everything we needed as we headed to the register. The wife even found an iced tea at the checkout, and when she's happy I'm happy. They even have a garden center area which was decently stocked. They have parking in a private lot as well as street parking. They even have an ace hardware perks club, like a savings card. read more

This is our new favorite hardware store! Don't be deceived by the smallish looking storefront--Scheule Ace is a big place and well stocked with everything you need to keep a house running well, plus lots of specialty items for woodworking and other DIY projects. They also have canning supplies, garden tools, and home decor items from curtain rods to some seasonal decorations. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, so it's easy to figure out and find exactly what you need for the job at hand. read more

This place is literally one block from my flat complex. I called in the Sunday before President's Day to make sure they were open because I needed to pick up some screws for a new desk chair I bought and only one single screw was missing. Luckily they were open and were pretty enthusiastic about receiving me. I walked in and the guy handling the store greeted me with the warmest welcome I've received to a place like this. He was super helpful right from the start and was giving me tips and advice when I told him I liked building and fixing things. I brought a screw from the set I got with the chair and he instantly matched that one with the screws they sell and handed it to me. Seriously, super helpful and warm guy! read more

Within 3 min of entering the store I had two different employees asking if I needed anything. When I did need help they used their expertise to help me get the perfect paint for my project (including advising me on which finish would wash in the event of a spill). Seriously one of the best hardware stores in Buffalo. Also they do a parking lot on the side of the store, so you don't have to rely on street parking. read more

Also, Paul, the owner has a farm, they sell fresh eggs (at the Schuele Paint location), the best I've ever had and they are guaranteed fresh. I will never go to Dibble again. I never fully understood complaints about the demise of local stores with good staff until I experienced this hardware store. The hardware store itself is great - well-stocked, compact, etc. Agree with all those remarks from other reviews. The most exceptional thing about this hardware store is how friendly and helpful their staff are. Every single person I've ever met here has been incredible. They are knowledgeable and excited to share, but not overbearing (like the weird hoverers you get sometimes in small businesses). I signed up for ACE rewards the first time I came, and the next time I went - like a month later - the guy recognized me! And they let you do things that big-box stores never would. Like the other day I had to get a certain size of Torx screwdriver and they let me run out to make sure it would fit (it was for a part of my car), then come back in and pay once I figured out the right size (though I did leave a friend as collateral ;) ). My "go to" hardware store. Always friendly and helpful. I stopped by over the weekend as my front door draft dodger (dd) wasn't doing the job. With a frigid week coming up, I wanted a solution and I wasn't sure a new one would be any better. In talking to one of the employees, he suggested I buy a $2 foam tube that could replace the flimsy foam tube that my current dd came with. It did the job! I know its a small thing, but it saved me $ (and I'm warm, cozy and happy). That's what they do. read more
