I brought my 13-year-old golden retriever Dani in to Value Vet after discovering a large lump in her abdomen. Dr. Jeff recommended surgery, telling us he had done the same procedure on his own senior Labrador Retriever who went on to live for several more years. Trusting his confidence and experience, we agreed. She was dead within 24 hours. When I picked her up after surgery, she was heavily sedated and visibly distressed. There was no overnight monitoring offered or suggested. To make matters worse, Dr. Jeff came into the waiting room carrying the tumor in a large plastic bag -- visibly bloody, the size of a football -- and presented it proudly in front of everyone there. I was in shock over the state of my dog, and this was what he led with. It was deeply inappropriate and showed a stunning lack of empathy for what I was going through in that moment. In the middle of the night she began dry heaving and I had to call Dr. Jeff in a panic. His advice was simply to take her to an emergency hospital. She died shortly after. I understand that surgery always carries risk, especially in older dogs. What I cannot understand is why a 13-year-old dog was not kept overnight for monitoring after a major abdominal procedure. Or why the warning signs I witnessed weren't anticipated and planned for. Hindsight is 20/20, but my gut was telling me surgery was the wrong call. I ignored it because he was so confident and sure of himself. The idea he could buy us more time with her over rode my instincts. Please don't make the same mistake I did -- trust your instincts, and don't let a cocky bedside manner override your own better judgment. It's taken me years to share this experience - it has been one of the most traumatic of my life. I'm sharing it because I wish someone had shared theirs with me before I walked through that door. If your pet is elderly and facing a major procedure, please seek a second opinion before proceeding- and trust your gut above all else..... Took my dog to have tumor removed and teeth cleaned and doctor said the tumor might be a bloody mess and couldn't guarantee my dog would make it this is when I had good insurance and credit cards. He also thought that my dogs lungs had been infected. I went away thinking my dog was a goner ( heartbroken) . Went a year later and he changed his tune now thinking there was some possibility but he couldn't guarantee her survival. Fast forward another eight months and she is still kicking and the thing holding her back is a large tumor which he didn't have the confidence to handle and now I am insurance less and on a fixed income faced with my dogs peril. Not because of Davidson but the extremely bad customer service. They don't even pick up the phone anymore if you're already a customer, they only pick up if you're a new customer wanting to set up an appointment. I had a few questions about their dental procedures and after each question she put me on hold, my third or fourth question pushed her over the hill I guess because then she put me on hold to never return. The whole phone call, which should have taken like 5 minutes and would have given me adequate info, now took half an hour and still have no answers. I have to say, Dr. Davidson is one of the best vets in Los Angeles. He has cared for my pet for over 10 years. Has helped on off hours and truly cares. Caring and heart can go so far for someone else's belongs and life, but Dr. Davidson REALLY cares. I have a cavalier King Charles, the first time owning this breed and he has guided me and helped me along the way with understanding what this breed is genetically disposed to. My dog has a heart mur mur but he's on medication and doing amazing. He recently had a stroke out of no where which I rushed to the hospital trying to get answers waited 5 hours but they couldn't give me a diagnosis!! Dangerously negligent and hostile care--do not bring your animal here. Review: This was the most negligent, hostile, and incompetent veterinary experience I've ever encountered. I adopted two rescue puppies, one 2.5 lbs and the other 3.4 lbs--extremely vulnerable and in need of real care. What I got was chaos, dismissiveness, and behavior that bordered on malpractice. One puppy had kennel cough, worms, and a UTI. The other, became lethargic and refused to eat. I brought her to Dr. Werber, explained she hadn't eaten in hours, and that I was flying both dogs cross-country the next day. He gave her fluids and a prescription food, but dismissed my concerns that she may not eat again later. Instead, he told me she was fine, and refused to prescribe anti-nausea medication (Cerenia) or an appetite stimulant (Entyce). I specifically asked if I should have them on hand in case she crashed later--he said no, that it wasn't necessary. But by midnight, it had been nine hours since she had touched food or water. I had to take her to the ER, where I waited late into the night. The ER staff were stunned that Werber had not given supportive care. They administered fluids, Cerenia, and Entyce--and unsurprisingly, her appetite returned. Because of this delay, I had to miss my scheduled flight back to Boston (a major logistical and financial issue, as people had flown in to help me with the dogs). I rebooked for the following day. Once I arrived in Boston, I received the results, she tested positive for Giardia. Both dogs were initially prescribed fenbendazole based on their weights at the time--2.5 and 3.4 lbs. Two weeks later, when their second round of medication was due, they had gained substantial weight. I emailed to confirm whether the dosage needed to be updated. No one responded for over six hours. I then called and was told by Dr. Werber's wife (who is not a vet) that the dosage did not need to be adjusted for weight gain. When I pushed back, she became hostile and insisted that weight has "nothing to do with dosage." This is objectively false and medically reckless. If weight didn't matter, why were their original doses different? The same dog had also been treated by Werber for a UTI and placed on Clavamox. After 10 days, they ran a urinalysis and told me everything looked "fine." She continued to exhibit UTI symptoms, so a week later, I took her to a vet in Boston, who reviewed the same results and flagged a very high white blood cell count, consistent with infection. That infection was allowed to linger for over a week longer until I got a second opinion and insisted on a culture--which came back positive. That's now two rounds of antibiotics due to poor oversight and incomplete diagnostics. And as if it couldn't get more unprofessional, this past weekend, when I was trying to confirm the correct Giardia dosages due to their weight gain, I discovered the clinic is completely closed on weekends. So I sent an email first thing Monday morning--no reply all day. When I finally followed up, I was told they "never got it," despite the email being part of the same thread the clinic had previously used to communicate with me. Somehow, neither the vet nor his wife saw it. Yet she continues to dispense medical guidance--claiming weight and medication dosage are unrelated--and no one seems to be reading or tracking communications. When I finally spoke with Jessica, one of the vet techs(?), who perhaps communicated with Dr. Werber, she claimed that one of the dogs didn't need a second Giardia dose because she had received Drontal during her first visit--eight days before Snowy, the Giardia-positive puppy, had even arrived. When I pointed this out, I was interrupted and talked over. Again, zero accountability or logic. Even worse: the prescription written for that dog did indicate a second round was necessary, and yet they were now claiming it wasn't. To make matters worse, she proceeded to berate me about how two weeks ago, she had to wait on hold while calling in a prescription to a compounding pharmacy in Massachusetts --something that is literally part of her job. When I said that I wanted to speak to Dr. Werber, not his wife, not a tech, but the actual doctor who treated my dogs, she snapped, "Well, you'd better answer your phone when he calls, I called you twice, and you didn't answer." I told her I was on work calls, and she said, "Well, I'm at work too." Yes, exactly. And her job is to do things like call in prescriptions. This isn't just disorganized. It's dangerous. And the contempt with which they treat concerned pet parents--especially when those pets are vulnerable, sick puppies--is something I've never experienced at any other veterinary practice. As someone who works in animal advocacy and is a documentary filmmaker focused on animal welfare, I can confidently say: If you care about your animal's health, avoid this place at all costs. read more

VALUE VET, DR. WERBER AND HIS STAFF KILLED MY DOG I would not recommend this veterinary office to anyone who genuinely cares about their pet. I brought my 14-year-old Maltese, Charlie, in because he wasn't eating or drinking and seemed unwell. While he may have had underlying health issues, Charlie was still my lively companion when I arrived. When the staff took Charlie to the back, I could hear him yelping loudly for at least a minute. As a pet parent, I know my dog's voice, and those yelps were unmistakably his. Charlie never yelps like that unless he is seriously hurt. When the vet tech came back, I saw my dog in a completely different state--disoriented, unable to walk, and bleeding from the mouth. I immediately asked what had happened and why Charlie was yelping, but the vet tech blatantly lied and told me it wasn't my dog. The next day, I received his lab results, which showed kidney failure. Dr. Weber assured me that IV fluids could help Charlie recover, but his demeanor and lack of clarity made me skeptical. When I asked to see the camera footage of the back room, he initially claimed the cameras didn't record and later showed me an edited, fragmented video that raised even more questions. Throughout this entire ordeal, Dr. Weber and his staff showed absolutely no empathy for my situation. They were dismissive and seemed completely indifferent to the fact that my dog's condition had drastically worsened under their care. They didn't care that their actions--or negligence--were causing my dog to suffer and ultimately pass away. I decided to seek a second opinion, and another vet reviewed the lab results and informed me that the IV treatment plan was incorrect and could worsen heart failure. Tragically, Charlie passed away the next day. I can't shake the feeling that something happened to my dog while he was under their care, and their disorganization and lack of compassion only deepened my concerns. I just want to say Dr. Werber is amazing! There are so many negative reviews on here - all about the front office. Honestly, this place is BUSY. If you don't like waiting, don't go here. But if you want a compassionate, knowledgeable vet, then Dr. Werber is your choice. You may wait a long time, but he knows what he is doing. He even kissed my Harlow on the head. He clearly loves animals and wants to help them. I did have to wait for him to call me with the test results but when he called it was not rushed. He answered all of my questions and even had me text him photos of my dog's tumor. The office staff is great too. Everyone was very nice and they are nice when you call. I don't know why people are complaining. I would rather wait a long time and go to a vet a trust that loves my dog, then go to somewhere that just shuffles you in and out. read more

It's unfortunate that I have to update my review and bring it down to one star. My reviews of Value Vets, when I first started going there some 10+ years ago, were 5 stars. In the end I drove my dog to Mexico to receive care. It was head and shoulders above Value Vet as far as quality of care. Don't even get me started on price. Value Vet is no longer a value. But the main issue is the confusion and lack of oversight now. After what happened with my dog's tail going necrotic due to a vet assistant wrapping it wrong - even with a full refund - it was hard to overcome that experience. Then, only to come back, and never being told how much anything costs and being presented with bills either with 4 figures or high 3's. In Mexico not only did they sit me down and go over every procedure they would do and the cost - when I returned to pick up my dog they actually spent 30 minutes showing me the filmed results of his rhinocoscopy.... Dr Davidson, when I told him the first time I thought my dog may have a nasal tumor, he insisted it could not be due to my dogs bloodwork and lack of swelling. He gave us allergy meds. I went back and it was treated the same way. After close to another $2000 I decided to go to Mexico and have the rhinocoscopy because it would not be affordable at Value Vet. And my dog's nostril had a tumor. I felt vindicated but wondered had we addressed it earlier would the results have been different. I don't know. My dog died at 17 years old after having a seizure. Most likely from the tumor pressing somewhere on his brain. I was not going to do chemo or radiation but there are chemo drugs we could have started way back in November had Dr Davidson entertained the idea of a tumor. But I am not dwelling on that. I am at peace because I did everything I could for my dog and he had a great life. I miss him but we had over 16 years together. I'm sharing this to let others know what you may encounter at Value Vet now. Proceed with caution.... read more

Beware! This is the worst care I can think of. What prompts me to write this is they will not provide myself or our new place of vet care current records. I tried several phone calls and their automatic voice systems is inefficient. They charged us for work with no official records or proof. Listen to all the negative reviews! We all say the same of how unprofessional they are and they DO NOT provide results! If you love your pet heed every ones warning. The only reason we went here was because we followed Dr. Werber. At the time, about 4 years ago, I looked at the Yelp reviews and it was sadly 2 stars so I don't see how they got to 3.5 stars. If you end up going here, expect not to receive any communication on results. If you experience for yourself the negativity in the patient care, make sure you get your records ASAP and go somewhere else! An excuse written to our credit card company and not to me is that "no news is good news". We were expecting to hear about an antibody test. How does that apply? How does that answer the peace of mind if something needs to be done or not. Then they also submitted a hand written "medical record" showing ONLY the one test on there. How fishy is that?! It's the principal of it all and if my dispute of only $79 was more I would definitely take the to small claims court since their documentation and communication was horrible. Could not be more disappointed in my recent interactions with Value Vet. Almost impossible to reach by telephone or email. If you do make it through the unbelievably long message system, you will not get a call back for days, even if the situation needs immediate resolution. You will drop $80 and upwards to see Dr. Davidson, who will glance at your cat, run a flea comb through, and say, yes, it's fleas -- and leave the room without ever returning. No discussion of which flea medication or why, no fuller exam of the ears (white outside, red inside), no help with concerns about overgrooming or furniture peeing, no anything at all. Just a bill and a prescription at the counter. So so scattered. Later he will apologize and concede he can be unfocused. This is while examining our dog -- and, again, not being anything close to thorough despite my expressing several concerns. But throwing down another $80 for nothing is the only way to get him flea meds, too. (At that second appointment, after I share my thoughts on his treatment - or lack thereof -- of the cat, Dr. Davidson promises to provide a prescription for prozac to calm her down and explains how it will help when I get some questions in. Does he? Of course not. Not even when I'm at the front desk asking him to do so before I leave.) Later, one of receptionists calls me to apologize profusely after seeing emails outlining my experiences and and emails me a scrip for fluorexine/generic prozac that TURNS OUT TO BE NO GOOD because it's not in the cat's file or actually written by the doctor.) I find this out when I take off work and stop in to get the prescription filled and -- yes, I admit it -- lose my cool (seriously sorry about that) when the other receptionist refuses to honor this prescription and calls Dr. Davidson, who of course couldn't possibly remember anything about any of this and insists the cat he did not bother to exam beyond the most cursory look needs injections of some sort. So I am out almost $200, neither of my pets has been looked after professionally or adequately, and the cat continues to suffer. I am beyond disappointed and have requested a refund because, despite going to the vet, they both still need to see a vet. read more

Bottom line: Be leery of anything with 'value' in the business name. There's always a trade-off. And sometimes, those that are searching for cheaper options will end up paying more ; one way or another. This vet has front office issues. To the hapless chap making a daring attempt at booking an appointment: you will be put on hold. Sometimes for an indefinite amount of time. If that's the case, call back during 'non-busy' hours. To those lucky enough to schedule an appointment, oh yeah, you still gotta wait upwards of an hour once you actually come in. Good luck! This office runs on a tentative basis -- yes, even those who booked 'reservations' well in advance. One wonders If they cannot hold the appointment time, what's the whole point in booking them? Maybe they ought to consider running on a 1st come, 1st serve basis. No appointment necessary. Extremely disorganized , I waited over 45 minutes to be seen for a routine check-up for my cat/ received required updated shots. This was WiTH an appointment . I can't imagine what the wait-time is without one. You'd probably be waiting all day, so don't even think about it. The doctor was nice. He talked a lot. This explains the tardiness. I just wanted a routine check-up and the updated shots. Since my cat was older, I had absolutely no idea which shots were required. He first told me my cat would need 3; then 2; then somewhere along the way, he said one was sufficient. Alright, we narrowed it down to all of the possibilities! The doc's fickleness didn't exactly project confidence. I'm sure I paid for services that were indeed unnecessary. For some shots and a routine checkup, I was charged a little over $230. Also, they didn't put the correct weight on the vaccine certificate. I'm pretty sure my cat doesn't weigh '0 pounds.' I had to call back to get the correct weight. They emailed me the info hours later because they archived the paperwork incorrectly. Probably because they wrote my number down incorrectly. read more

Here we go again, FOR THE 3rd TIME. I always find if supsect when a review gets removed for being 1000% HONEST. ​I used to go to Dr. Weber many, many moons ago when he was located on Venice and my dear old doggie was only a pup. I really liked his approach and felt as if details of anything and everything were discussed to my liking. Meaning, I didn't get charged for anything that I hadn't gotten a clear explanation on however, it seems things have changed since he's moved and I'm not a fan of the new location for more than one reason. The wait time (even with an appointment) is outrageous, I had to wait an hour even though we arrived 15 minutes early for our appointment. Issue numero dos, the staff. Not all of them but remember, it only takes one bad apple to ruin the bunch and he has one of the most ROTTEN apples working up front. I can't remember her name but she is AWFUL. As I was waiting in one of the many consult rooms, 20 minutes passed, half-hour, 40 minutes, 50 minutes, at this point I'm about to walk out because NOBODY has even come in to say, "Hey sorry it's taking so long, the doctor will be in just a bit, your next" or... ANYTHING. They take you into a room and all but disappear. I got so irritated after ZERO communication that I walked all the way out to my car, grabbed a blanket for my dog, came back, got her comfy and STILL not a single word from the doctor OR the staff. I walked out and asked if I was going to be next since I had been there an hour and got a snappy, RUDE,  FULL of attitude, tone WAY OFF response from the bad apple. Her snotty demeaning response was, "Yeah, you have to wait. There were other people here before you". NO SH!T?? REALLY?? Did she answer my question- NO. Did she UNDERSTAND the question? Hmm... Evidently not. Clearly, she thinks speaking to customers like that is ok. IT'S NOT.  Dr. Werber isn't doing himself any favors by having a rude assistant work in the FRONT office. She needs to be in the BACK, waaaaaay in the back with ZERO communication to patients and/or customers. My dog hasn't been back to DR. Werber for at least 10 years because we moved out of the area. I thought I'd give him a shot one more time because he's so close being located in West LA. However, this experience was one of the most terrible I've had. To top it off, when Dr. Werber FINALLY got to our room for our appointment, he took a look at my pooch, checked her heart, took a quick look at her teeth, and said she needed a "Senior exam" because of her age. I had initially gone in for a bortadella vax and also needed her a check-up because I feared she had an injury from a run in with someone while on a walk. He said she didn't need the vax yet based on the time frame she had her last one and instead said he wanted to do bloodwork to make sure she wasn't bleeding internally and to make sure that anything serious wasn't going on that we couldn't see. He took her to "back" and 10 minutes later comes back, says everything looks good and that she was ok, no internal damage. I was genuinely happy to have a vet so close to home until... I walked out and got the bill. A little shy of $400. YES FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS. I pretty much crapped my pants and also had to scrape my jaw up off the floor. WHAT??????? That was NEVER discussed with me- I had NO IDEA I was about to get bent over. I asked, "Why is the bill so high, that's OUTRAGEOUS and what happens when a blood panel is done??" I was looking for a descriptive explanation of ​what a​ "Senior Exam"​is​ (I mean WTF is that anyway???)  Is the blood draw AKA a "senior exam"?? THAT'S what I was trying to get an explanation for. And of course, true to rotten apple form,​ she​​ looked at me with a sour face and replied in a snotty tone, "They draw her blood". Ummmm, YEAH thanks Einstein- DUH.  She FAILED to legitimately answer my question​.​ Luckily I got to work with someone else entirely for the billing- she was helpful, patient and very customer oriented, UNLIKE her colleague. I'm beyond thankful that she was the polar opposite of snatchy. She is honestly the reason for the stars I gave otherwise, I would have given one star hesitantly. Feeling as if I'd been in there for 5 years, and wanting to leave as quickly as possible, we had an issue processing my Care card because the cvv code wasn't working. She kindly suggested that I try to get it figured out overnight and call the office first thing in the morning for payment, which is exactly what I did. Do not use this vet! Average wait is at least an hour. No consideration of people. No WiFi - what are you supposed to do while waiting for an hour or more! They always look harried and overworked. Waiting room is always crowded. Not worth your time. read more

Such an awesome experience here! My friend recommended Value Vet and Dr. Davidson and I'm so happy I came. Parking is easy behind the building (just tell the valet folks you're there for the vet). Dr. Davidson was great with my kitty, and he's great with my friend's dog. My cat needed a dental and I figured I was going to have to bring him in separately for another visit but the doctor was like, "Wanna get this done today?" HECK YES, let's spare my cat the hell of another cat carrier trip, please (also spare my ears from the howling in the car) It's the fastest day at the vet I've ever had. Appointment at 12:45, exam, dental, I picked my boy up at 4. I was grateful that Dr. Davidson made recommendations for my cat instead of leaving the decisions fully up to me because I don't know :) And the price was incredibly reasonable. The staff was fantastic, friendly, and fast. My cat has actually never been better. He's...happy?! Seriously, he had a dental last year and he was still a demanding fur ball after, but since this vet visit, it's like he had a spiritual awakening and he's so calm and sweet! 4 paws (5 stars) for Value Vet! read more

Awful service. My brother brings his three dogs here bc it's affordable. But goodness every time we go to value vet, it's awful service . Front desk people, just nasty with the worst attitude ever. They are not pleasant little less friendly. It's obvious they hate their job. Dr. Davidson seems honest, but he's rude in the sense that he doesn't respect people's time and clearly favors other customers. My brother was scheduled for 12. We got there at 11:45am people with later appointments were seen before him . One customer walked out because they were taking too long. After an hour of waiting, my brother dog was finally called. I sat outside the waiting room. A customer, with no appointment walked in to pick up meds , and asked to speak with Dr. Davidson, one of the front desk tech said he wasn't busy, obviously that was false. My brother was in the room, he was waiting for Dr. Davidson. We had been there more than an hour. Dr. Davidson sat outside the waiting room giving this woman a free consult. Talked to her for 20 minutes, until I said something. Just unbelievable. Talking about personal s***, and her dog's condition, asking him to prescribe her dog seizure medication because she thought he might have developed seizures. even though it was obvious that Dr. Davidson wasn't even sure if the dog had seizures. Very unprofessional and careless. Not only was that scary, prescribing meds without checking the dog, but rude and disrespectful that he had his other customers, who did have an appointment , wait. Simply because he was friendly with this other customer. It's a disgrace to have poor customer service. It's awful that these veterinarians allow the staff to mistreat customers. Just poor service. I had to put one of my sweet puppies to sleep yesterday and as I have never done this before, I didn't know what to expect. Since Dr. Davidson was out of town, Dr. Kim was the relief doctor. I couldn't ask for a better replacement. She was compassionate, caring and truly interested in my pets welfare. She explained the whole process and was with me pretty much step by step. She even teared up at the end. It's not easy to say goodbye to your beloved pet. And I prefer not to have had this done in the cold examination room in the back. But I was told that the workmen were still working in the front area that is being remodeled for what seems an eternity. After the "procedure" was completed and my pup crossed the rainbow bridge, I didn't know what to do so Dr. Kim asked Rose to walk me to my car so I'm not alone. Rose blatantly ignored Dr. Kim's request and did not walk me. She is the coldest, rudest and meanest person I have ever met and she really brings down this establishment. As I was watching Dr. Kim, Jessica and Rose prepare my pup for the procedure, Rose asked me to leave the area. I don't know why I even listened to her. I should have stayed on and not let my sweet puppy be around such a mean person. I have tried to break the ice with Rose so many times, but she is truly not worth it. I honestly don't know why Value Vet or Dr. Davidson continues to keep her on staff. I've seen numerous complaints about this woman and hopefully the owner of Value Vet will take all of them into consideration. One reviewer even called her a "thorn", not a rose. And I wholeheartedly agree. I do not feel comfortable with her being near any of my pets. So as I walked to my car alone and cried uncontrollably, I felt very awkward since the office staff failed to ask me to pay prior to putting my puppy down. After a while of just standing next to my car, still crying and not knowing what to do, Dr. Kim, the concerned person that she is, came out after me and apologized and asked Daisy to help settle my bill. Daisy was very apologetic and compassionate about my loss. But this part of the experience really made everything even harder. read more

I just left the clinic shocked I had a really good meeting with Doctor Weber but there stuff was rude inappropriate they tried to over charge me for one bordetella shoot 109$ when I asked why so much she claimed it's for the shoot and a check up when I didn't ask for a check up and my dog is in perfect health. After the doctor agreed that I'll pay 28$ they got mad and started calling my names and I'll never go back there! Rude stuff Update after I left the clinic and the left the review the staff during their shift went into my IG and left hate comments txt my friends and talked shit about me Also I tired talking to the doc to explain to him what happened the first time I called he wasn't available because he was with a client the second time he was in the restroom the third time he never made it to the clinic. I hope for the sake of the doctor they will deal with their stuff. I'm gonna consult with a lawyer to see what's my option.
