Took a bag of clothes here and what they chose was a brand new Madewell jacket, brand new knit parachute pants -with tags (don't ask me why I bought these), and a shirt. The process is well organized and staff is professional, but what you get for your clothes in my opinion is not worth the process. Without going into detail I received less than $10 in cash. When you get your receipt there is no itemized bill to show you what the payout was on each item. I don't like this. So yeah, still looking for another thrift store consignment shop that will give me a decent payout, because this wasn't it. I literally had brand new clothes that still had the tags on them that they wouldn't buy. Very disappointed. The parking in the back isn't very convenient either. The staff were generally nice. I didn't check out the clothes and their prices compared to other consignment shops because I was OVER them for not taking my brand new clothes (from trendy young places like SHEIN and Fashion Nova). These guys are absolutely terrible, not only did I spend a 1 1/2 hour commute coming from Virginia to see these guys but they also sent me back empty-handed, wasted my time, money, and gas. We are currently in one of the coldest seasons and these guys told me that they are not taking any types of jackets, sweaters, or coats. The staff, as young as they are, is just as naïve as the owner, not knowing anything of value when it's brought right to them. Do not give me wrong. I do not just take long trips to places without checking the reviews and calling first which I did both I called it was told to bring the items up to the store for a closer look, my biggest regret as soon as I arrive, I was told that I would have to wait in a line queue for about an hour. Which doesn't make any sense because on the phone I was told I could come before 2pm and I would not have to worry about waiting if I scheduling ahead. After being instructed to wait I I was given a receipt with my phone number and email and instructed to look out for a call from these guys, they never called, and I also was told that NONE of my items could be taken in. Absolutely ridiculous when you have to make that long of a drive and you also call ahead to take the proper precautions just to still be met with an unfortunate outcome. These guys are terrible. We were passing by this town and decided to stop by. The parking is behind the building. This store is a lot more of a modern store. First it's very well organized. Everything they have is second hand but all the things in there were in amazing condition. They had a summer sale going on. I noticed most of the shoes were marked reasonably. My teenager son spent over an hour here. We were able to get a big bag of clothes for $105. Everyone who worked there was very helpful and nice. We had a great experience. read more

dude I never rate places online so that should say a whole lot! I would give negative or 0 stars if I could. They absolutely deserve to get shut down, and hopefully soon. Scammers and thieves! I usually brush off small things like lying and unprofessionalism because I'm not at work, they are. But these people man.. They're just robots speaking/reading off a memorized script. They don't understand the term "lowball" and that's all they do, just a joke of a store don't go, you risk losing your car as well, as after I was done with that terrible interaction, my car was getting hooked not even 30 minutes after I got there. I came in to sell a large bag of gently used clothes and brand new clothes, including a purse, belt, shoes, and more clothing. BAG FULL. The young lady I spoke with twice told me they would go through my items while I waited and then make an offer. At no point did she explain that I would need to leave my items behind. Had I known, I would've taken photos of what I was dropping off for documentation. About 20 minutes after leaving, I received a call to return for my offer and remaining items. When I arrived, they offered me $24, which honestly felt insulting given the volume and quality of what I dropped off. But what made matters worse was that what they returned to me was clearly less than what I had brought in. I asked the staff to show me exactly what they were keeping, and they could only produce about 5 or 6 shirts. That's it. No shoes, no purse, no belt, and no explanation for the other missing items. I questioned the guy at the counter who I gave my thinga to, and he had nothing to say. Someone who was with me also noticed there was cashier that was there had a guilty look on her face, young lady, which only added to my disappointment. Bottom line: I feel cheated, and I don't trust this location with my belongings. If you're considering selling here, take photos and keep records of your items, or better yet, take your business elsewhere. This experience was shady and unprofessional. This place has a great selection and great deals. I think most of the negative reviews are from people trying to sell. This makes sense because if they buy for cheaper they can sell for cheaper. I like sniffing out thrift store no matter what they might hold within. Even though when I arrive it might not be the right type of thrift store I am looking for. In my search for houseware items I stumbled upon this. As you may know, those of you that live in the area, this is not that type of thrift store. Even though, I was not discouraged. I browsed and looked about to see what they had to offer. I know where I'll be going when I'm looking for a pair of Vans. Sizing is based off what people bring into sale. Cross your fingers when coming here or you may not leave a happy camper. The mix of merchandise on the racks all depends as well. If you have the time, you can spend a good portion of your day in here browsing. Because, who doesn't like a treasure hunt. Staff were friendly and kept busy with their tasks in the store. The space was neat and well organized. Parking, not a problem. You can park in their lot that is a part of the building as long as you are shopping. Very nice store and employees. I cleaned out my closet and brought some name brand blazers for the holidays , lots of nice shirts, pants, shoes, and boots. But to my surprise, they didn't want any of it. In the end, they bought one t shirt and a leather vest. For $9.25!!! The nice woman explained to me that they only want casual, VERY casual. It's very close to the University of MD, so I imagine it's a popular place for students to shop. So if you are bringing things to sell, it's best to be young people's casual clothing only and you won't get much. Oh, and the entire store smells like marijuana. read more

I had an amazing experience at this location! I always thought this was a more like a consignment shop, but I was wrong! The prices are very simplistic to that of Unique and Value Village! Andddd they buy clothes! Don't expect what you paid for, but it is better than the no money you get with donating. Choose store credit and you get an additional 25%! Definitely a place to check out if you're into thrifting, or even if you're just trying to reduce your carbon footprint. Everything is very trendy and in great condition. I went to Uptown Cheapskate to sell some clothes I had either never worn or have worn once then dry-cleaned and just remained in the closet for a few years. Prior to coming, I check their website which 'somewhat' explained their buying process. The parking to get in this shop is in a residential garage with a few designated spaces for Cheapskate customers. A young man greets me and because he sees my bag of clothes, he takes me to an iPad to tell me I have to register as a 1st time seller. This process requires some typical info like name/email/mobile # but I had some concerns on why they would need my drivers license #. After I finish, a young lady tells me to put my stuff in a bin and I can walk around the shop while they review my items. (FYI only 2 other customers were in the store so the young man who greeted told me it would be no more then 15mins) Now there is ALOT to explore in this store & I must admit they do have a variety of color-coordinated tops, sweaters & coats.(Only reason for the 2 stars) I notice that 30 mins had gone by since I arrived and I was not called up yet so I continue to walk the store & picked up 2 tops to try on. After I exit the fitting room, a lady calls me up just to tell me they won't accept none of my items. I was in complete shock that not 1 of my 20 items were sellable. She tells me my clothes were too formal and I replied "there are unworn jeans with tags and a few forever 21 clothes in there". Then she lies and says "oh well we don't take skinny jeans because they're out of fashion" and that they only want wide-legs jeans now. There is a whole row jeans that were both wide leg and skinny. The site says they accept Old Navy items and Zara -most of my jeans were from there, nothing specific about jean type (Mind you there are many sites like American Eagle who still sell & advertise skinny jeans). I was also upset they wasted 45 mins of my time which I believe is an intentional practice to get you to buy something in their store. I decided not to purchase the tops I tried on and only bought some earrings because they were unique and I knew I wouldn't find them anywhere else. The lady who denied my clothing gives me back everything unfolded when I had them all folded when I brought them up there & put them in the bin folded. I'll never come to sell anything here again but IF I'm in need of something color-specific, I may drop in. Ended up donating the clothes to goodwill so I'm sure someone will be happy with them. read more

Although the staff is friendly, if you're looking to sell clothing or shoes notice the clothes they have in-store to purchase, about 70% goes along with a college, pub, skater look, hence the name "Cheap Skate". If you have high end brands, in great condition they MORE than likely will not buy it from you [DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME]. It could be a price margin, but Micheal Kors, Ann Taylor, Armani, etc does not fit the theme of the store. Try Current Boutique, Poshmark or even donate you can have them tax exempt. read more

I like buying clothes here, but this review is about selling clothes. I brought some coats by a few days ago. It was just past 7:00 pm, so I had to drop them off to get an offer the next day. I put my coats in a bin and expected to get some sort of receipt listing what I was leaving in the bin. The woman said they don't provide any type of receipt or count of items that are left in the bin. That makes no sense. So I took a picture of the three coats I left in the bin. I read a review about the Rockville store from a seller, and sure enough, he described dropping off clothing that included a trench coat. When he came back to pick up his clothes, the coat was missing and the folks at the store stated they didn't know where it was. The owners of this chain need to implement a receipt method so dropped off clothes don't go missing. read more

I absolutely love this location and I stop by whenever I'm in town. They have a great selection of items (I love the women's workout clothes and dresses) and the staff is always super friendly. I was there when they opened up and they were very helpful in informing us (my roommate and me) what type of items they take/what's more in trend. For selling clothes there, they are very reasonable with the items they take/don't take. Of course, it won't be as much as you bought them for, but that's very common when you want to sell your clothes on apps and in stores like these (also, it's nice to get some pocket change for the clothes you're going to donate anyways). I stop by this location and the Rockville one regularly and they pay you around the same for each item! For store credit vs. cash upfront, I always take the store credit because I end up finding items I like while waiting for an offer. :) read more

It didn't take nearly that long, I received a text about 15 minutes later. I parked in the spot designated for Uptown Cheapskate, I was there standing outside 10 minutes before the store opened up in front the door. The apartment mgmt called to have my car towed. Lady was outside saying anyone have a red car they are towing it . I run to my spot my car is gone tow truck had it around the corner . I've been to this location a few times and have had mainly pleasant visits. I've bought many quality items from the store. Recently I had a problem an issue with one employee's customer service. Just overall not approachable nor seemed to want to answer my follow-up questions. When it comes down to it customer service is the most important. Overall, quality items and very affordable. Definitely not the best place to sell clothes. When presented with the total for all of my clothes, I asked if I could see a list with how much they were offering for each item. The employee said "it would be impossible" for her to print out an itemized list, but I could ask about specific pieces. I just found this to be very odd, considering I watched them scan these pieces in the computer and come up with a price for them. They're not transparent at all which translates into a question of how trustworthy they are. Since these were clothes I was planning on donating anyway, I didn't mind the price they offered me, but if you want somewhere that will price the items in front of you and actually be up front about what they're doing, go somewhere else. The following day, today, I returned to the store to purchase a few items since they announced a summer sale! I was so thrilled by the selection I ended up purchasing more than I had planned! There were some issues applying both the sale/discount and the credit from the items I sold. However, Elizabeth (I believe she is the owner/manager) she was very helpful with solving this issue! Let's see, I don't even know where to start with this place. Honestly I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. So I decided to stop in to bring some clothes just to see if they would be interested and the first thing I was told was place my clothes in a bin on this floor. These bins in which I placed my things were very dirty. Once it was time to view my things the first thing that was done was a woman started wiping down one of my items to get little dirt spots off which was from the bins that my items were placed in. Once she started wiping it down a woman whom I assume is the manager told her she was taking to long to wipe one of my Items down so they couldn't accept it, even though it was barley a minute taken to wipe the spots off in which again was from the bin that my items was placed in. My next item was checked out and which I guess was good enough for the store they wrote myself up a ticket to sale the item in which I was offered $5.00. I was offered $5.00 for a coat in which was a great brand, was in perfect condition and cost a good amount of money. I was also offered $6.00 in store credit which is basically nothing. I chose to keep my items, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, I honestly feel like you should not even waste your time going if you are looking to trade in clothing or shoes.
