I have only started shopping at thrift stores for the past year and half and I can tell you the prices has really changed since I started. This Value Village has gotten horrendous with their prices. Here you will worn out clothes at premium prices and old household goods for more than what it would cost to buy them new. In the household area you will find pots with missing lids for $12.99, mugs for $3.99, teacups (not even the nice ones) for $6.99 and a lot of broken, dirty and chipped things. The past 5 times I have been here I only found 1 sweater for $16.99 and I consider that pretty expensive thrift store prices. If I find something even halfway decent, the price is way more that I would pay for used goods, especially with the condition of most of the stuff. Value Village is also a for profit business. This is not a charity shop. They do donate a small fraction of what they make to Canadian Diabetes but at the end of the day they are selling goods that are donated for premium prices and banking most of it. They are greedy. I no longer donate here seeing that they overprice their items. I don't want someone else to pay $9.99 for my used Forever 21 shirt when I bought it a few years ago for for $15.00. I have also seen used Walmart (George brand) dresses for $16.99, Banana Republic dresses starts at $23.99, H&M for $16.99 - oh and Jacob clothes... like come on $18.99 for a used Jacob dress? There is a reason why Jacob went out of business - their clothing isn't great. I have posted some photos to give you an idea. So don't waste your time here. The only WOW you will be getting are the ridiculous prices!

Actually an item I found ! And it was cold :(

I have self declared myself a thrift shop master! But I have a problem with this value Village location. I was in today looking for mason jars for some silly craft thing that I have pin on Pinterest and Pinterest is only good if you actually try something. So out I go thrift shopping, and bought absolutely nothing from this location! Everything is over priced here! I want down the street to a different charity second hand store and got mansion jars for 50cents! with lids! Not 2$ like value Village... I could have gone to the C-tire and got bran new ones 10 for 15$. I'm consistently disappointed with this location. Now that I have found my items for my Pinterest activity at other thrift shop I can start it and when I fails maybe I'll donate to this location for a coupon to use at the other location.

I really wanted these gold shoes to fit me.

My grandma was a thrifty person, and her ways has rubbed off quite a lot on me. That being said I know a lot about spending time in thrift stores and finding the treasures within. When going to Value Village make sure you have hours to spend there. If you're anything like I am, you'll love looking at everything. Another good thing to do is set yourself up with a budget, so you know exactly how much you want to spend, because you might find a lot. The first thing to check out is the decorations, because houses can always use added eccentric flare. Don't become a crazy collectable hoarder though, that's a bit scary. The good thing about thrift store finds is that you can always re-thrift them when they no longer appeal to you. Make sure to check out the artwork too, you never know. If cut for time skip everything and go to the t-shirt aisles. You can always altar, sew, and customize a tee. Don't just limit to the womens section, check out the mens tees as well. Other tips: Always take note of the prices, because some items are overpriced. Check the clothing articles for any rips, stains and unbearable things. Don't buy anything that smells extremely gross, you might not be able to get the smell out just by washing it.

There is an awesome process in place for those who want to submit clothing for consignment and an easy, transparent way for people to see whether their consigned items have been purchased. I have felt intimidated when dropping clothing off at other thrift stores, but Urban Thrift is definitely a welcoming space! I was told that the store holds a variety of special events and promotions, all of which sound very interesting although I have not yet been able to attend any. Still - lots of cool ideas that demonstrate out-of-the-box thinking. I'm looking forward to becoming a regular at this clothing store.

Free people weekend bag for $5.99 - it's full of really great brand names in great condition for a good price. I think it's really well priced and there is SO much to look at. I spent an hour in the back corner kitchen area lol Even found my daughter some toys - wooden train set $4.99 and mega blocks set for $3.99. Tons of children's books too. Worth the 9 minute walk from the Ctrain station! :)

It has everything of course, clothing, shoes, kitchen appliances, jewellery, and knicky knackies but for such a small place I found everything surprisingly organised. This is a Thrift store folks don't expect anything less than junk and this and that but what I didn't expect were such high prices. Come on a jacket for $100 , you can pick one up at Divine down the street in better condition and at 75% lower in price. This wasn't even vintage and it wasn't even leather. The dishware was ridiculously expensive as well, Value Village has stuff below a buck that Zoe's was selling at 4 to 5, even Winners could beat the prices here, and it would be new and in better condition. Big no no Zoe. On the other side of the coin however was the furniture, now I saw a chrome table 50s go for 30 dollars then a 70s retro dining set at 60. I mean both would sell for well over 300 dollars in Vancouver or Toronto. So there is this huge imbalance in pricing. The women working there are extremely personable, I believe the owner or manager is from Russia and she is very friendly and sweet and the girl behind the counter is fun and attentive. So I guess shopping at Zoe's is the luck of the draw, I mean you can find what you are looking for, stock comes in daily but you may not want to pay for what you find or you may wonder why you paid so little. What absolutely floors me is that for a thrift shop they have this amazingly hip cool website up, where you can ask questions to Zoe and even find out what has come in and what collectibles they have. Zoe strange.

Cleanliness, organization, variety, pricing, and quality of products are all important when debating a place that sells used goods. This place is clean and organized. Each area has a clear purpose/product. The selection of items in each area is good. They don't put out items that are at the end of their life, worn, or damaged. Seeing poor quality items is common in most second hand shops like Value Village so it's refreshing to see good items. They only offer the large shopping carts instead of the handheld baskets but I guess we can live with that. The pricing is noticeably higher then other similar stores but I guess it's warranted because the quality is so high. Free parking lot, but it can be challenging to find a spot when it's busy.

It was absolutely price gauging and I am shocked. I walked out without buying anything at all because it was so overpriced. I recommend the WINS across the road as it's priced more affordably and donates to women in need within Calgary.
