Beware of Valvoline Quick Change in Topeka Kansas! I stopped using them several years ago when I found out they don't drain the oil out of the oil pan, but suck it out through the dipstick tube, leaving all the sludge in the bottom of the pan. My daughter went there and spent $278 on an oil and transmission fluid change. Being very anal about maintenance, I checked her oil and transmission fluid the next day, and found the transmission fluid to be so low it didn't even show on the dip stick, and the oil level was also down at the add mark. We called Valvoline customer service and opened up a case and were told they would give us a refund. We took it back to Valvoline to get the fluid levels corrected. The transmission fluid was over a quart low! At the Valvoline store in Topeka they said the manager would need to call my daughter back about compensation for the inadequate service. The manager called my daughter and said she would not get any refund "because it was normal to have to get the fluids topped off after service." This may be the expectation at Valvoline, but not anywhere else I know of. I also asked them how they change the transmission fluid and they said they just suck it out like they do the engine oil. I asked them how they change the transmission fluid filter if they don't drop the pan and they said they don't change the transmission filter. Bottom line, if you want your car to last a long time don't take it to Valvoline. read more

We took our son's car here over winter break for a simple oil change. He drove back to college and had issues. Just discovered that the car was short at least two quarts of oil. There were no leaks (as evidenced by our clean driveway and his parking spot at college). What happened is we were charged for the expensive oil, and were cheated out of at least a couple of quarts. This could have done even more significant damage. Who thinks to really check the oil level after getting an oil change at what should have been a trusted local business? My guess is a person or the business pocketed the money charged for the oil. Otherwise, this would show up in their inventory...and we called to ask and were told there were never inventory shortages. read more

Last time I brought my vehicle in, I was told I needed a tire rotation. Would I like to do that? Sure. A few months later, I had low tire pressure. My husband went to have the tires filled, only to find the tires that the vehicle said were low were fine. It was the opposite tire that needed air. We discovered when they rotated my tires, they didn't move the sensor. Today, I had my husband take my vehicle in for my next oil change so he could tell them they needed to fix the sensor they didn't move when they did my tire rotation. They told him we would have to take it to a tire shop, they can't do that. WHAT?? You offer a service, but you can't really perform the service? NOT ok. If you can't actually rotate tires correctly, including the sensors that go with them, you should NOT provide that service. I was a newer customer of theirs. I paid you to rotate my tires. Now I have to pay another company to fix your screw up?? This makes me absolutely NOT trust this company or their ability. NOT happy. read more

Told me I had a sealed transmission and said they didn't need to check it cause it didn't have a dipstick. It did have a dipstick and I found that out when I lost my transmission because it was out of fluid. I had been taking it to Valvoline about 2 years . I called them I filed a claim but they never made it right and said that because they never worked on the transmission that's not their fault . I cannot afford a new transmission so now I have no car . read more

My Granddaughter just 21 y.o. And not auto knowledgeable was completely taken advantage of. Oil change for $30 turned into $385. I was in the auto business for 40 years and couldn't believe it when I saw the invoice. They convinced her she needed tire rotation for $20 but missed the nails in 2 of the tires. And a fuel system I don't know what was $140. And a coolant system flush was another $140. Problem was the coolant refill was 1/2 gallon short which caused the car to overheat. This is all documented by a reputable auto repair shop where it had to be towed. read more

I have been in a few times with our cars when I was in between mechanics. they do a fine job, clean shop just sit in your car whole the oil change is done. Really my only complaint would be them coming up and having me roll down my window only for them to ask me 382 questions about different services they offer and the mind numbing prices they charge for it. Way overpriced! The only thing cool was that I didn't have to get out of my car, but $100 for an oil charge is a bit excessive. Update: I just realized they put only 3,000 miles to return instead of 7,500 miles (which is what I usually do because of the type of oil I get). Now, I'm worried they didn't use the right type of oil! And they did not give me a receipt to see the charges! Ugh! So frustrating!! read more

My first review was removed because valvoline contested the veracity. So I'd like to give you the dates and information so that you can be the judge. My car wasn't shifting as well as it had been so I took it in to have the transmission flushed Aug 29, 2019. Seemed to run better. The next summer I started noticing it was slowing down again, a friend said maybe it is just some build up, get it flushed and see if that helps. So once again June 25, 2020 I had the transmission flushed at the valvoline on Central in Wichita, Ks. This is the only location that removed the plug in the history of the vehicle, I bought it new. On June 30, 2020 I had a recalled part replaced and subaru sent me a service video explaining I had transmission fluid apparently leaking and they recommended I have them check for a leak. I said I just had the transmission flushed I will take it back to them and let them check. I showed the manager the video, he showed me there was no leaks up top, said he tightened the plug to make sure, explained it was probably run off, come back if I had problems. Oct 10, 2020 I experienced significant slippage and trouble shifting, I took it to a transmission specialist, who informed me the plug was leaking and I was low on transmission fluid. I filed a claim for the repair of the plug and valvoline denied it, saying it was too far removed from their service I couldn't prove it was them. There are two possibilities here. A) I had a defective plug, which they removed and put back into place twice and never told me, and even were given a 3rd opportunity to be honest. B) they damaged the plug and didn't want to deal with it. I honestly don't know which is worse. They may deny doing damage to my vehicle, but if that is the case then they are admitting they put an obviously faulty part back in my vehicle and never told me. Do not trust them. read more
