Had it not been for that, I probably wouldn't have heard of this beautiful park. It's in a super random spot, easy to miss. There's a large parking lot with lots of lighting, so it feels pretty safe. When you're in the parking lot you can see a large bridge but not much else, so you don't really understand how large it is until you get past the bridge! There's a large playground with quite a few play structures - a larger one for older kids, a climbing area, and a smaller play structure for toddlers. Beyond the play structure, there's quite a bit of paved walking trail that loops around the park. Since this is a garden park, there's lots of flowers and stuff to look at while you're on the trail. There's covered picnic areas, as well as grills too! I thought this park was brand new with how well-manicured it is and how nice the playgrounds are, but it was actually built in 2018! If you're in the area this park is definitely worth the stop - especially if you have kids!

It's a beautiful and spacious park (5 acres total) with: -2 LARGE open grass spaces -A small, circlular walking path (away from the playground mostly) -2 baseball diamonds (1 with a cage & small bleachers, 1 just inside the grass, almost hidden) -Several benches and picnic tables, some of them under shelter -A nice playground The playground: -Very good size (not giant, but not tiny) -Looks-like-new equipment -Lots of different climbing structures -Several slides -A separate area for swings (2 standard, 2 bucket/toddler swings) -Bark flooring No parking lot but street parking on all sides. This is in a very low traffic area (speed limit 25) and the park itself seems not to ever be very crowded so parking should not be an issue. It's a wonderful community destination because it's easy to reach, and both the park and lake are generally kept clean, attractive, and well maintained. Like many popular recreation areas, the lake can become quite busy on warm days and weekends, and occasionally some litter is left behind. What I appreciate is that by the next morning the area is often cleaned up again thanks to the hard work of park staff and community members who help keep the park looking its best. One of my favorite things about Steel Lake is that it is stocked with trout once or twice each year, providing great fishing opportunities throughout much of the season. Visitors come here to fish, swim, kayak, paddleboard, and enjoy boating, with only battery-powered motors permitted on the lake. Overall, Steel Lake is a fantastic local resource that offers something for everyone and remains one of the best places in the area to spend a relaxing day outdoors.

The best part is you can visit their website and you can check if the water is okay for the kids to play with . There's usually an update regarding if you can swim and such. The only thing I'm worried about is when there is no one there to facilitate the other kids swimming, because I noticed there were lots of kids who goes there without their parents or guardians. The cops do come around for their rounds sometimes, but not all the time . I always have my eyes on my kids because there were sooooooo many people and soo many kids during school break holidays and I can't even imagine summer break. If you want to entertain your kids for hours bring them here and just have a picnic and enjoy the sand with the kids. Don't forget the shovel and bucket though lol.

Parking here is easy and there's 2 different lots with a lot of spaces. The slides can be slippery i've seen babies go down and hit their heads or kids who are wearing certain kinds of material that make them slide insanely fast so definitely keep this in mind if you have babies/toddlers. Public Park??? Not really!…read more I'm not prone to giving bad reviews but after a year of trying to go to this park, I think they deserve what I'm about to say . The good news is that it is small, quiet and great place to go walking or walk your dog or have a nice meal at one of the benches.... but only when you can get in. The bad news is that it's closed to the public almost 80% of the year unless you go to one of the paid events that they hold there. While I understand that they have events for 4-H and the yearly fair they hold there. They have a bunch of other events that they shut the entire park down to the general public for. Don't get me wrong .... I'm all about having events for the public. But when it's one of the only parks within about 20 miles of where we live and we like to go there, but the gates are usually shut because they're setting up for some event 80%+ times of the year, we just have gotten used to not even going there anymore. It would be really nice if the county would make a park where citizens could go to relax, walk and play regularly. Simply not fair to the taxpayers who pay for this park and cannot use it regularly.

Now when I say "basic" I don't necessarily mean that it's bad. There are restrooms that are open to the public, playground equipment and a small field where you can play ball. In that aspect this is a great park for the neighborhood to come to. Parking is abundant and on a nice day I'm sure a very pleasant walk if you live nearby. I participate in hiding painted rocks and other trinkets, a popular group here in town and that is what led up to my first visit to this park. It's not a big park, but it is neat. My 6-year-old daughter played on the playground for an hour and a half or so. She absolutely loved the zipline, as well as the merry-go-round, rock wall, swings, tire swing, bars, and jungle gyms/slides. There is also a field there, which we didn't have an opportunity to explore, but we will definitely swing back by on a sunny day or even better, for a picnic!
