She has dark, white and milk chocolates that come in beautifully wrapped boxes. Each comes with nuts (pecans) or plain. They are melt in your mouth (and quickly in the sun) kind. But they're soooo good. Was nice to see that she also has a diabetic version. The texture is beautiful. So soft. Has the right sweetness, tastes rich but not so much that you get sick of it. Ever since I was a kid, the call of "I'm going to Van Otis, do you want anything?" would make my ears perk up. Of course the answer was "Hell yes!" Van Otis was an institution in Lawrence for almost 40 years on Andover Street. Just last year, they closed up shop and moved to this location. Traditionally, Van Otis closes for the summer due to the delicate nature of their product. Van Otis specializes in truffles. Just like any business that specializes in just one product, they do just truffles and they do them oh so well! These aren't those little round bon bon style truffles you might be used to from the froo froo stores. These truffles are small square pieces of heaven. Does the shape affect their taste? Not one iota. They will melt in your mouth ... if you can stand to savor them. Their truffles come in Milk, Dark and White chocolate and you can get them with pecans or without. Prices are in range for specialty chocolates $18 per pound, $9 per half pound and so on. That's it. End of story. Go to Van Otis, leave with truffles. It's just that easy. read more

A previous reviewer compared the truffles to the inside of a Lindt - that's a perfect description! They really do melt in your mouth. Everyone I shared them with loved them. This is a cute little shop in the front of a big house on Main Street with little square truffles displayed in a case and pre-boxed truffles along the wall. They come in milk, dark and white, all with or without nuts. They also had diabetic-friendly versions. There are samples out so you can try before you buy, and the woman who assisted me was very nice and helpful. Van Otis has their own lot, so no need to parallel park on the street. I cannot add to what has been said. I rate them above Godiva, Lindt and all others that I've tasted. They offer two kinds of chocolate light and dark and either of those is available with or without nuts. What is really special is their sugar-free chocolates. I have two diabetic friends and they claim it is the best sugar-free they have ever had. I've tried it and it is good. Now there is only one down side to Van Otis - they close for the summer from the end of May through the middle of September. This year (2014) they close on or about May 24 depending on how much stock is left. I'll be going with a large shopping bag to stock up because they make great gifts for every occasion. By the way they do have white chocolate also but as a chocoholic it is not real chocolate. read more

The best chocolates around! These truffles are so unique, and unlike any other truffles I have ever had. They specialize in chocolate, and it shows. I am eating one right now and it is amazing. There is no chocolate out there that compares to a Van Otis truffle, it is in a league all its own. A family favorite for as long as I can remember. The small 4 packs for only $3.25 are a delectable little token of appreciation to go along with a card etc. (ie. Ill be getting these for teacher appreciation week as my kids have many teachers and it adds up, this way I don't over spend but still feel as if I have gotten them something special.) read more
