They have 31 other locations open around as it originally started in Oregon in the west area. We have 2 open now in the New York area. Closer to home. The west village and upper west side area of New York. The Salt & Straw is in the middle of the outside mall area that was an originally a horse race track back in the day called The Rockingham Park. When you walk into the Salt & Straw you know you're at the right place because there is a sweet scent of the waffle cones in the air when you open the door. Everyone is invited to sample every flavor of you want as there is like 17 flavors. I choose a try many to make sure I got the right flavor. The ice cream is so creamy and delicious. They also offer milk shakes as well. They have a lot of unique flavors they offer and you may sample as many as you want. They also give you a little unique spoon with each sample and there is a convenient slot to insert your dirty spoon into once you're all done with the spoon and automatically drops into an area for it to be cleaned. Definitely an added touch to this unique ice cream shop. After all my samples I had I went with the sea salted w/ caramel ribbons in a freshly made waffle cone. It was out of this world. Very much enjoyed on the outside patio where there is plenty of tables with umbrellas to enjoy your ice cream. The staff were very attentive and didn't hold back to hand out the free ice cream samples. There is a fully stocked freezer there with all flavors ready in bulk "to go," containers. Can't wait to go back when I'm back in the area. Glad to know there is also one in my local area. Hope one day they will open one in Connecticut.

The shop is large for an ice cream store, think of a Starbucks without all of the tables. The building is hidden in the middle of the street, so when you visit, you have to cross a lane of traffic. Silly me kept looking to the far left and right, finally realizing that it was right in the middle, between the lanes of the road! The infamous place where your unwanted, unloved, and undesirable foods taste even better! It's true. The "garbage disposals" at work sure can eat things up! A co-worker brought the infamous, Christmas-time blue can of butter cookies to work. Something that was gifted to her and sat under her tree for a few weeks, and apparently wasn't allowed to stay in her house any longer. But it wasn't the usual Royal Dansk brand. It was a generic sounding name, Original Gourmet Food Co. That doesn't matter in the workplace! The tape encompassing the lid and bottom was peeled off, and the workers dug in. Slowly but surely, the contents disappeared. The advantage this off-brand has over the famous Dansk besides price? All the cookies were sprinkled with the gotta-have sugar crystals. No plain Jane's here! They went excellent with my daily iced coffee and actually brought out the coffee flavor in my drink. Another co-worker thinks the tin came from the store Ross, as she suspected that the peeled-off price sticker on the bottom looked like a familiar store trademark, so you know it was priced low. OVERALL: Same taste, same shapes, ALL covered with sugar crystals!
