Dr Pham is great but the Schaufele location and staff could be better. Parking is difficult and the receptionist staff leaves a lot to be desired. It really blows my mind that they make you wait in line to be checked in then have the audacity to say that you're late. 3, 4, 5 people waiting in front of you to see one of many healthcare practitioners and somehow it's my problem that they're understaffed? Regardless, Dr Pham listens and seems to be well-rounded in his medical knowledge. I enjoy talking with him and he is the perfect amount of professional and personable. My health has definitely improved since I began seeing him. It's hard for me to say if the office mismanagement is because of Memorialcare specifically or just the state of the American healthcare system so I am hesitant to rate poorly. I used to go to Dr. Pham. He did not treat me nicely at all. When I would go to see him, he would ask me. What the hell are you doing here! I had legitimate reasons why I needed to see him in order to get referrals to see specialist. He was always rude. He would never examine me. He would just send me off to other doctors. I don't think he's a very caring doctor, and I think that he would be better suited in another profession. I have a disability, and I don't think that he understood it, nor took the time to care. Dr. Pham never took the time to listen to what I was requesting of him. Due to my disability I needed to apply for transportation services and I needed a letter from Dr. Pham stating why I had a disability and what my disability was. He wrote out a letter that was so vague. They wouldn't even accept it and I would be denied the service. I went to Dr. Pham for a bad knee injury and I was requesting physical therapy and some pain medication and he refused both. He took an x-ray and just gave me an elastic band for my knee. I had to go through a specialist in order to get the physical therapy that I needed. It's always ends up costing the insurance company, more money, and it was something that he could have prescribed himself. read more

Dr. Pham is my 87 year old mother's primary doctor. My mother has the BEST medical insurance there is. Blue cross PPO. She can go to ANY doctor. On August 3rd I called paramedics for my mother with the symptoms of a stroke. The paramedics rushed her to Long Beach Memorial Hospital emergency room. My mom was released with a diagnosis of Bells Palsy and was to see Doctor Van Pham in three days from the emergency room release. I called with concerns with the medications she was to take. Dr Pham office called 10 days later. Still no follow up from them. When I finally got my mom in to see her doctor Dr. Pham told me the delay was due to not enough doctors. How scary is it when your primary doctor doesn't take responsibility for his patients and blames the lack of doctors. It's now been almost a month from the emergency room visit and I've been trying to get her records sent to a new doctor for her.appointment which was scheduled for today. I personally went in yesterday to make sure the records were faxed over so my mom can get seen by a new doctor, which was booked 3 weeks. ago Memorial medical not only never faxed the medical records but my mother lost her appointment due to it. Doctor Pham spent a lot of money on his education which was a waste of money if you ask me. He's only good for a well check. Any more serious health issues he has NO follow up and really didn't care. Dr. Pham is GREAT. He is kind, compassionate, and smart. He is super responsive via email as well, which is totally helpful. I practice Health At Every Size and he agreed to treat me from a weight-neutral perspective, which is not an easy thing to find in a doctor. He is respectful and I really trust him. Plus the facility at 3828 Schaufele Ave is super accessible. The staff are all really nice. In fact I was so impressed with the facility and Dr. Pham that now I also go to a gynecologist, podiatrist, and pulmonologist at that same office. read more

I've been seen twice by Dr. Van Q Pham. Who has just graduated from medical school and I don't know if he recognizes he is actually a doctor now. Every decision he makes are out of some ethics text book. I had a brief alcohol problem and asked him to prescribe my a few Valium so that I would not have potential lethal withdrawals. He didn't so I went to see another internal medicine doctor which had a heart and understood my issue. As was he was writing me a prescription he had to leave for an urgent phone call. Guess who it was telling him not to prescribe it to me. I soon after checked into detox where they game me a couple Valium a day for 5 days and cost $20K, which I'm in the process of being to be reimbursed for. After seeing him yesterday to avoid having to fill out new patient paperwork I asked for a small amount of low dose hydrocodone to help with a back injury that I've been dealing with for 5 years now and has been worse than ever due to a re-injury 2 weeks ago causing me to leave my desk job as a professional engineering, Dr. Pham told me to take Advil knowing I have a kidney disease (which you should never do). So I left after getting some routine blood work done. He told me that he was not able to prescribe anything more than Advil in large doses because of his license (so don't ever see him if you have any injury), but referred me to a pain management facility so he could get a kickback. Today I went to the pain management facility to find out that although I'm in chronic pain the doctor was contacted by Dr. Pham who told him not to prescribe me anything, he was willing to stick a giant needle in my back and fill me with muscle relaxants, which I declined. Thanks for the huge waste of time Dr. Pham. I'm headed to the chiropractor tomorrow then to a real DOCTOR after that. I'm not even sure if what he has done is legal. I just know I've wasted a lot of money on an intern not a doctor. Don't do the same! read more

The best PCP!!!!! Attentive to my needs and discusses options regarding my care. Lb memorial is in my opinion a great group. I have such respect for Dr. Pham and if your looking for a knowledgeable, caring and involved MD this is it. I work in the healthcare industry and having a strong rapport with your PCP is vital. He has helped me with my medical and grief issues. Im super thankful that he has made it easy to share my issues. The medical home is well kept and I never have to wait in the lobby as my appointment time is honored. You can get blood work and other tests done there. They have an obgyn team too. Just excellent care is what you will get from the moment you call to schedule an appointment, to signing in at the lobby to the time your with Dr. Pham. My husband goes there now and he also feels the same about Dr. Pham. Also, the portal is a great way to communicate with him too. read more

I went to Dr. Pham for the first time and am thoroughly impressed. Every person I came Into contact with from the front desk lady to medical assistant was so nice. I only waited for 5 minutes before getting taken back and Dr. Pham was in the room shortly after. He gave a thorough exam and listened to all of my questions and concerns.
