I have been to VRA a number of times over the past year to shop, shoot, and handle NFA transfers and purchases. I recently took a friend there to try and pick out his first handgun. When we arrived, a salesman (Mike) greeted us almost immediately. I told him that we were just trying to get an idea of what type of handgun my friend may be interested in and that we would not be purchasing it today. To my surprise he was more than happy to talk to us and help figure out what features we were interested in even though he knew there was no chance of sale. Mike spent the next hour pulling out dozens of handguns for us to look at. He listened and provided advise while not being overbearing nor did he try and push a particular firearm on us. On many occasions he even suggested firearms that were well below our stated budget. Having previously had horrible shopping experiences in other gun shops, I greatly appreciated his assistance and lack of continual sales pitch. After we narrowed down our selection, we proceed to the range to rent a few of the ones we liked. The lady at the counter was very nice and helped us get everything we needed. Once on the range, the RO explained the range rules clearly. We got our targets set up and started shooting. The RO was personable and obvious very knowledge, but not overbearing or disruptive to our experience. He offered opinions on the guns we had chosen but he only did that while we were loading mags or waiting for the other to finish shooting. All in all, the range session was quite enjoyable. VRA is one of the best gun shops in the area. Not only do they have a wide selection of firearms but the staff is friendly and helpful. Prices are decent and the entire facility is kept quite clean. Vandalia Range & Armory is the place to go for all of your firearm purchases. I drive over from the Indianapolis area because there is nothing close to VRA. I took a firearms safety class; they have good instructors. The range - I feel - is a safe place to shoot. They always have RSOs present to monitor your safety & that of your fellow shooters. They have 2 ranges and I have used both. The RSOs are also there to provide help, support, & answer questions about shooting. The "sales associates" are very friendly & VERY knowledgable about the products. This is a great place that also caters to the female audience; it is not an intimidating place. My wife was looking to get a gun. When the store was about to close, one of the guys (Nik) spent a lot of time reviewing handguns and making sure the types fit her hand. They won't sell you a gun just for a sale. They want you to come back and be a part of the family. I have a younger son that comes with me to the range; I teach my son firearms safety; I feel safe at this range & I know these guys re-enforce what I have taught him. The range is clean & the air in the range is very clean, as it re-circulates clean air all of the time. It's a great destination place...bring the family! I sometimes stop by VRA when I'm traveling through town just to talk with the guys...I feel like VRA is a part my extended family! read more

Vra is the place to go for my needs in firearm purchases. Multiple firearm purchase, suppressor and a gun safe. I have taken a shooting glass there as well and have also shot at both of the gun ranges. I have sat in on some silent Saturday's when reps from venders have been in the area. Getting questions answered about suppressers and trust was really painless. There are no other gun shops in the area that offer and make events like this happen. Hats off to vra for making things like this happen. I purchased a optic for one of my rifles, I had some idea of what I wanted when I went into vra. I had some questions on if it was best for my application and they also helped me get it sighted in on the range. Seth was very helpful. I have been to all the other gun shops in the area Old English rushed me out of there one evening after talking to a guy about gun safes I had 3000$ cash in hand and wanted to look at some others items, but since it was close to closing time I was told I couldn't look at any guns and what I had in hand I better pay for because they are closing the register. That's fine I won't step foot back in the place. I have wanted a couple firearms that are rare and hard to find and vra did a great job at locating what I wanted and getting it in the shop and into my hands. Keep up the great work VRA. read more

My wife and I have been a customer of Vandalia Range and Armory for a few years now. The first person we ever spoke with is Nik and he is now they only person I will ever buy any weapons from. I have a 1911 Colt Commander that for some reason I just love. But every time we would stop at the store I couldn't help but look at the Nighthawk. For months I would ramble on about the things I liked with the Nighthawk and how I wished my Colt was like it. I have no idea how but Nik retained everything I had said. My wife wanted to do something special for Christmas and also without me knowing. So she contacted Nik and took my Colt in for work. Nik not only modified and machined my Colt to perfection he also built my pistol exactly how I wanted. Fixed the feed ramp, modified and replaced the trigger, cut in a new dove tail, new hammer, mag well and grips. When my wife gave my pistol back I was speechless and I would put my Colt up against any Nighthawk now for half the price. You just can not find customer service like that anymore. Since then both my wife and I have worked with Nik building our gun collect. He spends hours with us every time working with us. From buying your first weapon to trade in and even detailed gunsmithing you simply can not find better service than Nik and the VRA team. read more

After reading the other reviews here, I had two double-check that I was reviewing the right place. I do not agree with these reviews at all. I came in to trade in a pistol and buy a new one. It was my first visit to this store and I had to drive a long way to get there, I had gotten offers from another store, but wanted to see what I could get here. They offered much more than the other store's lowball and gave me fair trade value. I bought a new pistol and the whole process only took about 20 minutes. While I was waiting for them to value my trade, no less than 3 people offered to assist me. The service was top notch and it was worth the drive. If your looking for good service and fair treatment, I recommend this gun shop. read more

Buying a gun to me has always been fun and exciting, no matter how old I get, and today kind of felt like Christmas in July. It was my third visit to Vandalia Range & Armory and I purchased a handgun from Mike. It was one of the most pleasant experiences I have had purchasing a gun - and believe me this was not my first rodeo. First off, this store is clean, well organized and stocked. They have some really cool stuff in there. Second, and even more important, each time I have been in, the men and women working there have been just awesome. They have shown me guns and answered my questions without any of the attitude you get at some other places. This is the kind of home town gun shop that we need to support. read more

This facility is very nice and the staff very courteous. The rifle range has a very fancy digital target system. HOWEVER, they have to fund all that nice stuff somehow. The range fees are outrageous in my opinion. For the cost of a few hours here, you can get an annual membership at some other local ranges. The transfer fee is $35 which is the highest I've ever heard. I know many other local shops do it for $20. Also, all the ranges are indoor. I prefer to shoot outdoors. If you pay for 1 hour, you get exactly 1 hour. If you prefer the premium indoor experience, check it out. If you are looking for a more laid back experience and more bang for your buck, you can do better in the Dayton area. read more

If I could give 6 stars I would. This place has an awesome range. The range officers are so helpful. It is one of the most safety oriented range I've been to. Their selection of new and used guns is extensive. My only sadness was when I found out the don't carry Kimber. The no pressure sales is grest. They won't sell it if you don't love it. Absolutely no customer service. staff are beyond rude and unprofessional. Staff is blasting hate media and take glee in making potential clientele feel extremely uncomfortable. PLEASE do not make a minor mistakes in the range or staff will verbally and physically assault you with no questions asked. This establishment is a horrible place. read more

VRA is the top place for recieving information on any gun questions, the staff is knowledgeable and are will to help with any question asked. Range officers give range policies and procedures and watch shooters around you to make sure safety is in place for all shooter. I enjoyed my experience and will be returning often. read more

Walked in and was immediately greeted and helped. As I was waiting on my Nics check to finish I walked around the store and was asked by multiple other staff members if I needed help. I've never had a problem with this range. I shot over 400 pistol rounds one day and all the guy asked is how many rounds I had shot. I followed the rules by keeping my pistol pointed down range, clearing my firearm and putting it in a case before I left. Just use common sense and you'll be ok. read more
