But there's something about being around plants that makes me happy. My mom has the most beautiful garden, so when she came to Chico to visit me, I thought she'd love the Plant Barn. It turns out, we both did! I appreciated the welcoming employees, but they also didn't hover. We were able to stroll the property, and admire all of the beautiful plants. It was really peaceful. Although I didn't buy anything, I spotted a few things in the gift shop that will likely bring me back. I've heard that they host classes - wreath making, flower arrangements, etc. - and I would definitely sign up for something like that!

The store has so much good stuff too and we found this sonic rat/mice and other animal deterant. I was skeptical but we tried one and it actually works, but if you have lots of them once you move it they will come back so might need to get a few more and see if it will drive them far far away. I was so excited that they carry a lost coast product that is great for aphids, my squash and pumkins suffered last year and I tried so many things that I'm looking forward to using this on the garden this year!! Can't wait to go back and get a free gallon of compost tea! I forgot to ask the first time so I'm glad that we only had our truck and couldn't fit all the soil I wanted. Also the compost tea they sell kicks mega ass of you want to give your girls a good boost of love, which also helps to promote healthy complex microbes that aid in growth and fighting of disease and pests. They also deliver soil if you don't mind paying a little extra. The bad reviews about the soil is completely fabricated. Some people don't understand that regardless of the soil you buy you still will need to add fertilizer somewhere along the line of growing your garden. Gimme a break. Are people really that stupid.? I have been there multiple times to pick up soil for my landscaping off my back yard. All my citrus, pomegranate, ornamental perennials, and raised bed veggies are super happy! My landscaping goes way back when I was once a pro organic gardener CSLB landscape contractor back in the 80's and 90s. The rates are reasonable too! I shall be back for more topdressing this Fall!

Great place for buying seeds and for getting info on planting…read more The place is very small but they do a great job of keeping a great variety of seeds on hand. (Check out their website both for ordering online and for more information on the benefits of "sustainable" seeds.) They also sell home grown eggs; they even have a club you can join which guarantees you a certain number of eggs a month. I didn't get any of the eggs because we grow our own but from our conversation they clearly know chickens and eggs. They have great specials on seeds too; they have 99 varieties for $.99...so that is pretty cool. Also, talk to them about their grains. Most place don't carry grains but they have a great selection and can give you good advice on when and where to plant them and the best way to harvest them.
